2、e components that comprise the NASA Ground Network that supports the ADEOS-II mission were provided to the NGN as contributions from operational entities under the management of various NASA organizations. This approach presented both opportunities and challenges during the ADEOS-II NGN development

3、and early operations. The one lesson learned in this regard with respect to component re-use is summarized below. It should be noted that ADEOS-II is a international partner mission, with the Japanese Space Agency (NASDA) as the mission lead. NASA provided NGN ground system support through an MOU wi

4、th NASDA.Lesson(s) Learned: Re-Use of Existing Operational Components Lowers Cost and Reduces Risk. These are two of the obvious benefits gained by using operational components in the development and early operations of the NGN. The NGN was able to leverage the considerable investment by NASA in the

5、 multi-mission capabilities of the Alaska Synthetic Aperture Radar Faility, the Wallops Flight Facility, CSOCs Data Services Management Center, the EOSDIS Mission Support Network, the Physical Oceanography Distributed Active Archive Center, and the National Snow and Ice Data Center. Collectively the

6、se organizations provided data capture and Level 0 processing, domestic and international network connectivity, and archive and distribution capabilities. It was determined early in the design concept phase that it would be prohibitively expensive to develop all of the capabilities needed for the AD

7、EOS-II NGN “from scratch.“ The re-use of existing management structures and systems was the obvious solution for a cost-effective solution to meet the requirements for NASAs support of ADEOS-II NGN requirements. During the design and early operations phase, all of the NGN component organizations pro

8、vided the highest caliber of support to the project and program goals.
