This standard does not include requirements for sp

10、eciality soaps such as transparent soap, medicated soap and seawater soap. 2 Normative references The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. 13、method). 3 Definitions For the purposes of this document, the following definitions apply. 3.1 batch soap manufactured from one boil or, in the case of continuous production processes, material from a single days production 3.2 boil soap from one pan or vat 3.3 SANS 237:2008 Edition 3 4 lot quantity

14、 of soap that bears the same batch identification, made by one manufacturer, and submitted at any one time for inspection and testing 3.4 unit tablet of soap with no covering 4 Requirements 4.1 General 4.1.1 Toilet soap shall, when visually examined in accordance with 6.1.2, a) be in a tablet form,

15、b) be homogeneous, well compressed and smooth, and c) when coloured, the colour shall not change appreciably during storage in its original container or wrapper at ambient temperature. 4.1.2 Toilet soap shall not be irritating to normal skin and it shall not contain ingredients in quantities that ar

16、e toxic to human beings. It shall lather freely in water, at ambient temperature, that has a hardness (expressed as calcium carbonate) of 200 10-6. 4.2 Odour Unless otherwise required (see annex A), toilet soap shall be perfumed and, both as received and when dissolved in hot water, shall possess a

17、pleasant odour. During a six-month storage period in its original container or wrapper at ambient temperature, it shall not develop an objectionable odour and, when perfumed, shall not change its fragrance. 4.3 Chemical requirements The chemical requirements of toilet soap shall, when tested in acco

18、rdance with the relevant tests in column 3 of table 1, comply with the requirements given in column 2 of table 1. 21、 mass fraction of 76 %. bOn the soap as received. c See 6.2.1 5 Sampling and compliance with the standard 5.1 Sampling 5.1.1 General When no information concerning the implementation of quality control or testing during manufacture is available, the following sampling procedure shall be applied to d

22、etermine whether a lot submitted for inspection and testing complies with the requirements of the standard. The samples so taken shall be deemed to represent the lot for the respective properties. The sampling procedure shall also be used for adjudication in cases of dispute. NOTE Information on the

23、 quality verification of toilet soap is given in annex B. 5.1.2 Sample for inspection Draw at random from the lot a) five containers if the lot is packed in containers of net mass not exceeding 5 kg, and b) three containers if the lot is packed in containers of net mass greater than 5 kg. 5.1.3 Samp

24、le for testing 5.1.3.1 From the containers taken in accordance with 5.1.2, take at random enough soap to provide a laboratory sample of total mass at least 2 kg, unless the mass of individual units is 60 g or less. In this case, the laboratory sample can be reduced to a minimum of 1 kg. Take equal q

25、uantities of soap from all containers. SANS 237:2008 Edition 3 6 5.1.3.2 Place the laboratory sample in clean, dry, air-tight glass or plastics containers clearly marked with the manufacturers name or trade mark, the batch identification, and the date of sampling. 5.1.3.3 In the case of unwrapped so

26、ap, take the sample units from the centre of the container. 5.2 Compliance with the standard Deem the lot to comply with the requirements of the standard if, after inspection and testing of the samples taken in accordance with 5.1.2 and 5.1.3, the samples are found to comply with all the requirement

27、s of the standard. 6 Inspection and methods of test 6.1 Inspection 6.1.1 Inspect the containers (and when relevant the wrappers) taken in accordance with 5.1.2 for compliance with the requirements of clause 7. 6.1.2 Visually examine the samples taken in accordance with 5.1.2 for compliance with the

28、requirements given in 4.1 and 4.2. 6.2 Preparation of test specimens 6.2.1 Composite specimen 6.2.1.1 Determine and record the mass of each unit taken in accordance with 5.1.3 (including any material that may have adhered to the wrapper or to the sample container, as relevant). Calculate the average

29、 mass. 6.2.1.2 For units of mass exceeding 60 g, divide each unit into eight equal parts by cutting the unit in half along the length of the unit and then by cutting the two halves across the width three times. Ensure that all the cuts are at right angles to one another. Completely slice or grate fi

30、nely two diagonally opposite eighths of each unit. 6.2.1.3 For units of mass 60 g or less, completely slice or grate the entire unit. 6.2.1.4 Combine all the slices or gratings in a clean, dry, air-tight glass or plastics container (identified as in 5.1.3), and mix thoroughly. 6.2.2 Test specimens 6

31、.2.2.1 Immediately after preparing the composite specimen, take at one time all the test specimens required for analysis. 6.2.2.2 Weigh out the test specimen required for the determination of free alkali or free acid content last, and test it immediately. 6.2.2.3 Ensure that any pick-up or loss of m

32、oisture is reduced to a minimum by carrying out the weighing and the preparation of the test specimens as rapidly as possible. 6.3 Free alkali content or free acid content Use SANS 169. Check for compliance with table 1. 7 Packing and marking 7.1 Packing 7.1.1 Unless otherwise required (see annex A), toilet soap shall, when visually examined, be so wrapped as to prevent excessive drying out, contamin

35、ation of the product, and staining of the wrapper. The flaps of the wrapper shall be properly secured. 7.1.2 The toilet soap shall be packed in containers that are strong enough to withstand normal usage and transportation. These containers may then be packed in bulk packages. Only soap from the sam

36、e batch shall be packed in a container and, when relevant, in a bulk package. 7.2 Marking Each container, bulk package and when relevant each wrapper shall bear in prominent, legible and indelible marking the information required in terms of the relevant national regulations and statutory requiremen

37、ts (see foreword) and the following additional information, as relevant: a) the manufacturers name or trade mark or both; b) the words “toilet soap“; c) the batch identification (this can appear on containers only); d) he mass, in grams, of the contents; e) in the case of containers, the number of t

38、ablets; and f) in the case of bulk packages, the number of containers or of tablets. SANS 237:2008 Edition 3 8 Annex A (normative) Notes to purchasers A.1 The following requirements shall be specified in tender invitations and in each order or contract: a) when relevant, that the soap shall not be p

39、erfumed (see 4.2); and b) when relevant, that the soap shall not be wrapped (see 7.1.1). A.2 The order or contract that specifies the requirements listed in A.1 shall be made available to inspection representatives for inspection purposes when so required. Annex B (informative) Quality verification

40、of toilet soap When a purchaser requires ongoing verification of the quality of toilet soap, it is suggested that, instead of concentrating solely on evaluation of the final product, he also direct his attention to the manufacturers quality system.
