Publication of this TIA Standard for trial use and comment has been approved by the Telecommunications Industry Association. Distribution of this TIA Standard for comment

It is expected that following this 60 month period, this TIA Standard, revised as necessary, will be submitted to the American National Standards Institute for approval as an American National Standard. Suggestions for revision should

9、 be directed to: Standards select from EIA-5150i300, “Generic Specification for Optical Fiber and Cable Splices,“ the appropriate quality assessment procedures, tests, and measuring methods; and to give general performance This requirements for this type splice closure. Sectional Specification must

10、be used in conjunction with a fiber splice sectional to specify a complete optical cable splice. The Specification addresses those requirements necessary to provide external protection for an optical fiber splice, but does not cover the properties of a fiber-to-fiber splice. 1.2 Closure Types This S

11、ectional Specification identifies the characteristics of pressure-tight fiber optic cable splice closures designed for use with fiber optic cables in underground, buried, and aerial telecommunications applications. Moisture access into the cable closure will generally be excluded by means of a posit

12、ive gas pressure system, normally not exceeding 70 kilopascals (10 pounds per square inch). 1.3 Closure Classifications Splice closures are classified according to the configuration in which cables may enter the ends of the closure as follows: 1.3.1 Straight Splice Closure: Closures that provide ope

13、nings for only one cable to enter each end of the closure. 14、sures: Closures that provide openings for two or more cables to enter one or both ends of the closure. 1.3.3 Butt Splice Closures: Closures that provide openings such that two or more cables enter one end of the closure and no cable enters the other end of the closure. 2.0 APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS ASTM

16、 optic Terminology (May 1978) EIA-476 Source and Date Code Marking (April 1981) 3.0 DESIGN CRITERIA 3.1 precedence The requirements for an optical cable splice closure shall be as specified in this Sectional Specification and in the accompanying Generic and Detail Specifications. In the event that t

17、he requirements of this Specification conflict with the requirements of the Generic or Detail Specification, the order of precedence shall be Sectional and Detail. 3.2 Ma te r i a i s Materials shall be compatible with the requirements as specified in the Detail Specification. 3.3 Physical Character

18、istics The physical dimensions, weight, color and finish shall be specified in the Detail Specification. 19、EIA-515BgUfl Page 3 3 04 Interchangeability Sufficient dimensioning and material data must be provided in the Detail Specification to assure interchangeability without selection of parts or without departure from the specified equipment performance. 3.5 Bonding and Grounding Closures intended for us

20、e with cables having metallic elements such as shields, vapor barriers and strength members, shall meet the requirements of para. 3.5.1 through para. 3.5.4, unless otherwise specified in the Detail Specification. Bonding and grounding requirements shall not apply to closures intended only for use wi

21、th fully non-metallic cables unless otherwise specified in the Detail Specification. 3.5.1 Shield and Strength Member Continuity The splice closure shall be designed to permit establishing cable shield and strength member electrical continuity at the beginning of the splicing operation. Continuity m

22、ust not be disrupted by susbsequent re-entries into the splice closure. Installation of the bonding device should require minimal cable sheath preparation. 3.5.2 Bonding Clamps Bonding clamps must be able to withstand a current flow conducted to it by the cable shield from a power contact fault. The

23、 conductive path shall have a current carrying capacity equal to or greater than that of the cable sheath being joined. 3.5.3 External Ground The closure must have provisions for the installation to the cable shield and metallic strength members of an external ground conductor equivalent to a No. 6

24、AWG copper wire unless otherwise specified in the Detail Specification. Aerial closures must. ensure an electrical bond between the cable shield, strength and the support strand. 26、th members . Insulating joints may require additional pieces of hardware and are often used in connection with corrosion protection. 3.6 Closure Housing 3.6.1 Material Compatibility The closure housing must be compatible with all materials used in bonding and ground devices, and chemicals and sealan

27、ts which the closure would contact under normal use. 3.6.2 Cor ros ion Protect ion The use of additional external wraps, coatings, etc., shall not be required for corrosion protection unless otherwise specified in the Detail Specification. 3.6.3 Resistance to Sunlight The closure housing and any oth

28、er exposed parts of closures intended for aerial applications must be made of materials which will resist deterioration when exposed to the unltra-violet rays of the sun. 3.6.4 Non-Metallic Closure Materials Non-metallic closure materials used for closure housings and any other exposed parts of the

29、closure shall be materials which are resistant to deterioration or stress cracking when subjected to petroleum products or other chemicals to which it might be subjected in normal telecommunications applications. 3.7 Re-Entry The closure should be re-enterable without destruction of the housing unle

30、ss such destruction is economically justified. 31、B000 Page 5 be immediately reusable, without factory refurbishing and with minimum field rehabilitation work. When a number of units are being re-entered, factory refurbishing is allowed when economically justified. 3.8 Fiber Bend Radius Controller The splice closure shall have provisions for contro

32、lling the radius at which fibers are stored in the closure. The bend radius of the storage feature shall be specified in the Detail Specification. 3.9 Fiber Splice Retention The splice closure shall have provisions for holding the fiber splices and any excess fiber in an orderly and accessible manne

33、r. 3.10 Cable Clamping and Sealing The attachment of cable clamping and sealing hardware shall not cause an increase in fiber splice or cable loss when . measured in accordance with FOTP-20, (EIA-455-20) “Measurement of Change in Optical Transmittance,“ unless otherwise specified in the Detail Speci

34、fication. All metallic cable clamping shall not be subject to corrosion. 3.11 Splice Isolation The splice closure shall isolate the fiber splice from stress when a tensile load is applied to the cables. No axial or lateral force on the cable shall be transmitted to the fiber splice. 4.0 PERFORMANCE

35、AND PHYSICAL INTEGRITY CRITERIA The splice closure shall meet all optical, mechanical and environmental integrity criteria as specified in the Detail Specification when the required test procedures are followed. Mechanical and environmental criteria shall be chosen from the tests listed below. Sampl

36、e selection and preparation, applicabilty of the performance criteria, and test sequencing requirements shall be as specified in Section 5.0. 4.1 Visual and Mechanical The splice closure components shall be kept in their shipping container(s) up to time of inspection and assembly to avoid loss, dama

37、ge, or contamination of the part. 38、ed, using equipment capable of measuring to the specified tolerances. The physical dimensions, weight, color, and finish shall be as specified and splice identification marking shall be legible and as specified. There shall be no evidence of poor fabrication or component damage. There shall be no vi

39、sible signs of cracking, breakage, corrosion, or distortion resulting in the binding of parts and/or impending part failure. 4.2 Mechanical 4.2.1 Compression A complete closure assembly shall be placed between two parallel, flat and rigid surfaces, larger than the closure dimensions, with the longes

40、t closure dimension parallel to the surfaces. A uniformly distributed weight of 90 kg (200 pounds) shall be placed on the upper rigid surface for 15 minutes. The closure must not deform more than 10% of the diameter (or characteristic vertical dimension) of the closure. This test shou&d beo done at

41、ambien8 temperatures of -18 C (0 F) and 38OC (100 F), after stabilizing at these temperatures. Gas leaks, as evidenced by the bubbling or foaming of soap solutions placed on closure joints, seams, cable entry ports, etc., shall constitute failure. 4.2.2 Impact A complete closure assembly pressurized

42、 to 14 kilopascals (2 psig) shall be subjected to an impact of 1.4 kg-m (I20 oinch-ounds), gt ambignt temperatures of -18 C (0 F) and 38 C (100 F) after stabilizing at these temperatures. The apparatus should consist of a cylindrical steel impacting head weighing 2.25 kg (5 pounds) which is dropped

43、on to the closure from a height of 60 cm (24 in). The impacting head shall be at least 2.5 cm (I in) in diameter and shall have a 2.5 cm (1 in) spherical radius on the end which impacts the closure. 45、diameter or thickness, or gas leaks, as evidenced by foaming or bubbling of soap solution placed on the closure joints, seams, cable entry ports, etc., resulting from the impact shall cons ti tute failure . 4.2.3 Cable Pullout Closure to cable pullout test shall be performed on complete closure asse

46、mblies in accordance with FOTP-6 (published in EIA-455), “Cable Retention Test Procedure for Fiber Optic Cable Interconnecting Devices.“ The closure shall be tested with a tensile load of 450 newtons (100 pounds) or a load equal to one-half of the tensile strength of the cable used in the test, whic

47、hever is less. The closure shall be restrained in a vertical position and the load applied axially to each cable end for 1/2 hour. All cables shall be loaded simultaneously. Any damage to the closure, damage to sheath termination hardware, or leaks as evidenced by foaming or bubbling of soap solutio

48、n placed on the closure joints, seams, cable entry ports, etc., shall constitute failure. 4.2.4 Flexing Test The complete closure assembly shall be mounted horizontally on a test fixture which can provide a vertical movement of + 10 cm (4 in) to the closure from the horizontal. The closure shall be

49、pressurized to 70 kilopascals (10 psig). The cables entering the closure shall be attached to the stationary portion of the test apparatus at a distance of 40 cm (16 in) from the end of the splice closure and restrained from vertical movement. Horizontal movement of the cable required to permit the flexing is allowed. The cable ends shall be blocked to prevent air loss. The closure shall be moved through 200 complete cycles of + 10 cm (4 in) of excursion at a r
