、 are designed to serve the public interest through eliminating misunderstandings between manufacturers and purchasers, facilitating interchangeability and improvement of products, and assisting the purchaser in selecting and obtaining with minimum delay the proper product for his particular need. Ex

、istence of such Standards and Publications shall not in any respect preclude any member or nonmember of TIA/EIA from manufacturing or selling products not conforming to such Standards and Publications, nor shall the existence of such Standards and Publications preclude their voluntary use by those o

、ther than TIA/EIA members, whether the standard is to be used either domestically or internationally. Standards and Publications are adopted by TIA/EIA in accordance with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) patent policy. By such action, TIA/EIA does not assume any liability to any pate

、nt owner, nor does it assume any obligation whatever to parties adopting the Standard or Publication. TIA STANDARDS TIA Standards contain information deemed to be of technical value to the industry, and are published at the request of the originating Committee without necessarily following the rigor

、ous public review and resolution of comments which is a procedural part of the development of a TIA/EIA Standard. TIA Standards should be reviewed on an annual basis by the formulating Committee and a decision made on whether to proceed to develop a TIA/EIA Standard on this subject. TIA Standards mu

、st be cancelled by the Committee and removed from the TIA/EIA Standards Catalog before the end of their third year of existence. Publication of this TIA Standard for trial use and comment has been approved by the Telecommunications Industry Association. Distribution of this TIA Standard for comment

、shall not continue beyond 60 months from the date of publication. It is expected that following this 60 month period, this TIA Standard, revised as necessary, will be submitted to the American National Standards Institute for approval as an American National Standard. Suggestions for revision should

Sectional Specification must

、be used in conjunction with a fiber splice sectional to specify a complete optical cable splice. The Specification addresses those requirements necessary to provide external protection for an optical fiber splice, but does not cover the properties of a fiber-to-fiber splice. 1.2 Closure Types This S

、ectional Specification identifies the characteristics of pressure-tight fiber optic cable splice closures designed for use with fiber optic cables in underground, buried, and aerial telecommunications applications. Moisture access into the cable closure will generally be excluded by means of a posit

、ive gas pressure system, normally not exceeding 70 kilopascals (10 pounds per square inch). 1.3 Closure Classifications Splice closures are classified according to the configuration in which cables may enter the ends of the closure as follows: 1.3.1 Straight Splice Closure: Closures that provide ope

、sures: Closures that provide openings for two or more cables to enter one or both ends of the closure. 1.3.3 Butt Splice Closures: Closures that provide openings such that two or more cables enter one end of the closure and no cable enters the other end of the closure. 2.0 APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS ASTM
