17、D MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION OR DISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL INTRODUCTION 1 Scope 1.1 These requirements cover industrial control panels intended for general industrial use and installation in unclassied locations with intrinsically safe circuit extensions into the f

18、ollowing hazardous (classied) locations in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70: a) Class I, Division 1; b) Class I, Zone 0 and Zone 1; c) Class II, Division 1; d) Class III, Division 1; and e) Zone 20 and Zone 21. 1.2 The industrial control panels covered by these requirement

19、s are not intended for metal working machine tools, plastic injection molding, power press controls, ame safety supervision of combustible fuel type equipment, or elevator controls. 1.3 These requirements do not cover electrostatic devices, circuits or systems, gas or vapor analysis equipment or oth

20、er equipment having a process line brought into an enclosure. 1.4 The industrial control panels covered by these requirements are assemblies consisting of components such as motor controllers, overload relays, fused disconnect switches, and/or circuit breakers and related control devices such as pus

21、hbutton stations, selector switches, pilot lights, timers, switches, control relays and the like with associated wiring terminals. In all cases, the enclosure is provided as part of the assembly. 1.5 These requirements cover equipment for use under the following atmospheric conditions: a) An ambient

22、 temperature not exceeding 40C (104F); b) An oxygen concentration not greater than 21 percent by volume; and c) A nominal barometric pressure of one atmosphere. 24、e explanatory or approximate information. 4 Glossary 4.1 For the purpose of this Standard, the following denitions apply. 4.2 BARRIER The device that provides the intrinsically safe circuit. 4.3 BARRIER CONTROL DRAWING A drawing or other document provided by the manufacturer of each intrinsically sa

25、fe barrier used in the panel that details the allowed interconnections to each barrier. 4.4 FIELD WIRING Conductors to be installed by others to connect the industrial control panel to sources of supply, control devices, and loads. 4.5 INTRINSICALLY SAFE CIRCUIT A circuit in which any spark or therm

26、al effect, produced either normally or under specied fault conditions, is incapable of causing ignition of a mixture of ammable or combustible material in air in the mixtures most easily ignitable concentration. 4.6 INTRINSICALLY SAFE INTERNAL WIRING The wiring between the terminal blocks for eld wi

27、ring of intrinsically safe circuits and the barrier. 4.7 PANEL CONTROL DRAWING A drawing or other document provided by the manufacturer of the panel that details each barrier within the panel and the connections to the intrinsically safe electrical equipment in the eld. 4.8 PARTITION A metallic or n

28、on-metallic material used to maintain required separation between intrinsically safe and non-intrinsically safe equipment and wiring. 4.9 SIMPLE APPARATUS An electrical component or combination of components of simple construction with well dened electrical parameters that does not generate more tha

29、n 1.5 volts, 0.1 amperes, and 25 milliwatts or a passive component that does not dissipate more than 1.3 watts and is compatible with the intrinsic safety of the circuit which is used. Examples of simple apparatus include passive components such as LEDs, resistors, RTDs, and switches and sources of

30、generated energy such as thermocouples and photocells which do not generate more than 1.5 volts, 0.1 amperes and 25 milliwatts. 4.10 Um The maximum voltage (rms, ac, or dc) that can be applied to a non-intrinsically safe connection facilities of the barrier without invalidating the type of protectio

32、ements in the Standard for Industrial Control Panels, UL 508A. 5.2 When conicting requirements exist, the requirements of this Standard shall supersede the requirements of the Standard for Industrial Control Panels, UL 508A. CONSTRUCTION 6 Barriers 6.1 Barriers shall comply with the following requir

33、ements based on the intended area: a) For Division 1 hazardous (classied) locations: the Standard for Intrinsically Safe Apparatus and Associated Apparatus for Use in Class I, II, and III, Division 1, Hazardous (Classied) Locations, UL 913. b) For Zone 0 and Zone 1 hazardous (classied) locations: th

34、e Standard for Explosive Atmospheres - Part 11: Equipment Protection by Intrinsic Safety i , UL 60079-11. c) For Zone 20 and Zone 21 hazardous (classied) locations: the Standard for Electrical Apparatus for Use in Zone 20, Zone 21 and Zone 22 Hazardous (Classied) Locations - Protection by Intrinsic

35、Safety iD , ISA-61241-11 (12.10.04)-2006. 6.2 Barriers installed within an industrial control panel shall comply with the panel control drawing and barrier control drawing provided by the manufacturer. 6.3 Power to each barrier shall be supplied from an isolating source with an output less than or e

36、qual to the rated Um of the barrier as specied on the barrier control drawing. 6.4 A ground fault circuit interrupter shall not be used lieu of the requirements for the barrier as specied in 6.1. 7 External Equipment 7.1 Intrinsically safe equipment, located in a Division 1, Zone 0, Zone 1, Zone 20

37、or Zone 21 area, that is intended to be connected to a barrier in the panel, shall be limited to simple apparatus. Exception: Connection to intrinsically safe equipment, other than simple apparatus, is not prohibited when the connection complies with the following requirements based on the intended

38、area: a) For Division 1 hazardous (classied) locations: the Standard for Intrinsically Safe Apparatus and Associated Apparatus for Use in Class I, II, and III, Division 1, Hazardous (Classied) Locations, UL 913. b) For Zone 0 and Zone 1 hazardous (classied) locations: the Standard for Explosive Atmo

SEPTEMBER 14, 2012 UL 698A 6UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION OR DISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL 7.2 The intrinsically safe equipment shall be clearly specied on the panel control drawing provided by the manufacturer. 7.3 For simple apparatus other

41、than switches, the maximum power (P o ) delivered from the barrier to the simple apparatus shall not exceed 1.3 W for temperature considerations. The maximum power shall be determined by either a marked value on the barrier or by the following calculation: P o =( V oc I sc ) 4 in which V oc and I sc

42、 are per the marked values on the barrier. Exception: The maximum power (P o ) shall not exceed 1.3 W unless the apparatus complies with the following requirements based on the intended areas: a) For Division 1 hazardous (classied) locations: the Standard for Intrinsically Safe Apparatus and Associa

43、ted Apparatus for Use in Class I, II, and III, Division 1, Hazardous (Classied) Locations, UL 913. b) For Zone 0 and Zone 1 hazardous (classied) locations: the Standard for Explosive Atmospheres - Part 11: Equipment Protection by Intrinsic Safety i , UL 60079-11. c) For Zone 20 and Zone 21 hazardous

44、 (classied) locations: the Standard for Electrical Apparatus for Use in Zone 20, Zone 21 and Zone 22 Hazardous (Classied) Locations - Protection by Intrinsic Safety iD , ISA-61241-11 (12.10.04)-2006. 7.4 For simple apparatus other than switches, that are provided with the panel or specied on the con

45、trol drawing, the maximum surface temperature can be determined from the values of the output power from the barrier to which it is connected to obtain the temperature class. The temperature class as given in Table 7.1 can be determined by one of the following and shall be provided on the control dr

46、awing: 1) The following Table: Total Surface Area Requirement for T4 Classication Excluding Lead Wires Less than 20 square mm Surface Temperature less than or equal to 275C (40C ambient) Greater than or equal to 20 square mm Surface Temperature less than or equal to 200C (40C ambient) And less than

47、or equal to 10 square cm Greater than or equal to 20 square mm Power not exceeding: 1.3W (40C ambient) 1.2W (60C ambient) 1.0W (80C ambient) 2) Calculation using the formula: T=P o R th +T amb Where: T is the surface temperature; R th is the thermal resistance of the simple apparatus; and SEPTEMBER
