2、tration according to IS0 2375 - ANSI sponsorship procedures L Approved August 17, 1995 Secretariat: Information Technology Industry Council 0 Introduction An internationally agreed-upon code for inter- change of information among data processing systems and within message transmission systems is the

3、 7-bit coded character set of ISO/IEC 646: 1991. ANSI X3.4-1986 is a national version in accordance with the provi- sions specified in ISO/IEC 646: 1991. Provision for additional characters is made by code extension techniques in which additional characters or character sets are identified by escape

4、 sequences. The procedures for code extension and the structure and use of escape sequences are documented in IS0 2022: 1994. Specific meanings are not assigned to individual escape sequences by IS0 2022: 1994. The purpose of international registration of these additional characters and character se

5、ts is to inform all those concerned of the character sets already developed and of the specific escape sequences used to identify Page 1 of 5 pages them. Although international registration pro- vides identification for a character set, it should not be regarded as a standardization procedure. IS0 2

6、375: 1985 specifies the procedures to be followed in preparing, maintaining, and publishing a register of meanings that are assigned to escape sequences. As specified in IS0 2375: 1985, any member body of IS0 can act as the sponsor of pro- posals for character sets for international reg- istration.

7、ANSI will therefore act as sponsor of U.S. proposals, and this document speci- fies the procedures to be followed in submit- ting proposals for ANSI sponsorship. Since only registration (not standardization) is included in this procedure, no technical cri- teria will be applied to the sponsored set.

8、 However, assistance will be given in prepar- ing the set in the format of the IS0 Registration Authority. An American National Standard implies a consensus of those substantially concerned with its scope and provisions. An American National Standard is intended as a guide to aid the manufacturer, t

9、he consumer, and the general public. The existence of an American National Standard does not in any respect preclude anyone, whether he has approved the standard or not, from manufac- turing, marketing, purchasing, or using products, processes, or procedures not conforming to the standard. American

10、National Standards are subject to periodic review and users are cautioned to obtain the latest editions. The American National Standards Institute does not develop standards and will in no circumstances give an interpretation of any American National Standard. Moreover, no person shall have the righ

11、t or authority to issue an interpretation of an American National Standard in the name of the American National Standards Institute. 17、ferences The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this text, consti- tute provisions of this American National Standard. At the time of publication, the edi- tions indicated were valid. All standards are subject to revision, and parties to agreements based on this Ameri

18、can National Standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the stan- dards indicated below. 19、 3 Contributors 3.1 Proposals for character set for ANSI sponsorship for IS0 registration may be made by the following, which are contributors for the purpose of this standard: - any Accredited Standards Committee of the American National Standards Institute; - any U.S. national trade or industry as

20、sociation, or any U.S. government cabi- net level agency, having an established standardization process for development of its official standards. 3.2 Proposals for character set may not be made by companies or individuals. 4 Procedures (See figure 1) 4.1 A contributor shall send its character set p

21、roposal to the X3 Secretariat stating whether or not the proposed set is an approved stan- dard of the contributor. Standard forms are available for this purpose from the X3 Secretariat.3) 4.2 If the proposed set is not an approved standard,4) the Secretariat shall request the contributor to (a) com

22、plete a Project Proposal (SD-3) and submit the proposal to X3 for pro- cessing as an American National Standard; or (b) submit the proposal to the contributors organization for processing as a standard. 4.3 The X3 Secretariat shall be responsible for making known to the contributor the deci- sion ta

23、ken relative to its proposal as it pro- ceeds through this procedure for sponsorship and the IS0 procedure for registration.
