、MERICAN NATIONAL STANDARD Approval of an American National Standard requires verification by ANSI that the requirements for due process, consensus, and other criteria for approval have been met by the standards developer. Consensus is established when, in the judgment of the ANSI Board of Standards

、Review, substantial agreement has been reached by directly and materially affected interests. Substantial agreement means much more than a simple majority, but not necessarily unanimity. Consensus requires that all views and objections be considered, and that a concerted effort be made toward their

、resolution. The use of American National Standards is completely voluntary; their existence does not in any respect preclude anyone, whether he has approved the standards or not, from manufacturing, marketing, purchasing, or using products, processes, or procedures not conforming to the standards. Moreover, no person shall have the right or authority to issue an interpretation of an American National Standard in the name of the American Nat

These normative references are cited at the appropriate places in the text, and the publications are listed below. For un

ANSI C81.61, American National Standard for Electrical Lamp Bases. ANSI C82.4, American National Standard for Ballasts for

、High-Intensity Discharge and Low-Pressure Sodium Lamps. 3 General Description and Information Metal Halide lamps may be operated on either series or multiple circuits with the use of the proper ballast. Lamps listed in the following tables conform to the applicable parts of ANSI C78.43, ANSI C81.61,

、 and ANSI C82.4. The ANSI lamp code should match the ANSI ballast code to ensure proper luminaire operation. The below tables contains typical data that varies by lamp manufacturer. It is suggested that the user refer to current lamp manufacturer catalogs for current data such as average lamp life a

、nd lumen ratings. Lamp bases constructed of brass or corrosion resistant alloy are recommended. Consult the manufacturer for availability. This selection guide contains data for lamps with a clear outer glass jacket (no phosphorous coating). Coated lamps are available in most wattages and typically

、have a slightly higher color rendering index (CRI) and a slightly lower lumen output than clear jacket lamps. Consult the manufacturer for availability. Some lamps are only available for a specific operating (burning) position (vertical base up, vertical base down, horizontal). Many metal halide lam

、ps are designed to operate in any burning. These are known as universal lamps. Universal lamps generally have slightly lower lumen output and average life but can be used in any burning position.
