23、he cognizance of TW FO-6.7, Subcommittee on Fiber Optic Cables.) This FOTP is part of the series of test procedures included within Recommended Standard EIA/TIA-455. NOTE: This FOTP was previously published in RS-455-100 as FOTP-100. Pressure System A typical test apparatus is shown in Figure 1. Oth

24、er apparatuses shall be acceptable provided that appropriate pressure regulation equipment and appropriately-sized chambers capable of handling the pressure are used. A pressure manifold system shall be used to supply the specified gas pressure to each cable sample. A pressure indicator capable of m

25、easuring the gas pressure within if more than 2 rnl of gas is captured, the specimen automatically fails the test. 4.7.3 if 2 ml or less of gas is captured, special care must be taken to determine the origin of the captured gas. In this case, the test shall be performed again using a tracer gas to e

26、valuate if the captured gas is simply air trapped in the cable structure during manufacture or if it is actually test gas that has forced a path through the cable. One such tracer gas that can be used in sulfur hexafluoride. When this tracer gas is utilized, a syringe can be used to extract a sample

27、 of the captured gas from the capturing devices, exercising caution to assure that no water is extracted with the gas sample. The extracted gas is then expelled directly into a sulfur hexafluoride detector. If sulfur hexafluoride is detected, the specimen is considered to have failed the test. 4.8 R

28、emove the test specimen from the testing apparatus. Unless otherwise specified, visually examine the tested specimen in accordance with the requirements of FOTP-13 (EL4-455-13), Visual and iVfechanica1 Inspection 01 Fibers, Cables, Connectors, and/or Other Fiber Optic Devices, checking for damage to

29、 the cable construction caused by the test. Examples of test-induced damage include, but are not limited to: ballooning jackets, fibers extended out of the buffer tubes and gas blocking compound pushed out of the cable. 4.9 If specified in the Detail Specification, a leak analysis shall be performed

30、 if the sample fails, to determine the cause of failure. The analysis shall consist of determining what the failing component was and the possible cause of failure. Name of operator, for military requirements, or responsible test su

32、pervisor, otherwise. Identification of the fiber optic cable. Failure criteria and the resulting leakage. Report of damage to the cable. Photographs or illustrations of sample end and cable damage if any. Leak analysis (per Section 4.9), if specified by the Detail Specification. Test Equipment used

33、and data on calibration. Identification of test methods or procedures used. 6. SPECIFYING IWORMATION The following shall be specified in the Detail Specification: 6.1 Type of fiber optic cable to be tested. 6.2 Test conditions, 6.2.1 Temperature. 6.2.2 Test pressure. 6.2.3 Duration of test. 6.2.4 Le

34、ngth of sample. 6.2.5 Units of reported results. 6.3 Acceptance and Rejection Criteria 6.3.1 Maximum leakage allowed. 6.3.2 Cable damage criteria. 6.4 Requirement for Leak Analysis, if the Leak Analysis is required by the Detail Specification (Section 43).
