(U) Tubes used shall be inspected for adequacy prior to initiating each firing program. The gun tubes shall be inspected for adequacy by performing, at a minimum, visual inspection, pullove
16、r gaging and complete stargage and borescope inspections. (U) All gun tubes shall be inspected when unexpected occurrences, such as projectile breakup, cartridge case rupture, etc., are experienced during any of the test phases. Required inspection after these instances shall include visual inspect
18、ion, pullover gaging and complete stargage, borescope and magnetic particle inspection. f. (U) TID tests shall be conducted by firing sample cartridges specified herein at a 20 foot by 20 foot (6.1 by 6.1 meters) target located 3000 meters from the gun muzzle. The target shall have a 10 foot border
19、on all sides for determination of erratic flight. The target shall be made of a material approved by the technical agency. Targets used for hot firing phases shall allow determination of fin hardcoat degradation and fin burning . g. (U) A sufficient number of rounds for instrumentation checkout, muz
20、zle velocity stabilization and spotting purposes will be fired prior to the start of the test. h. (U) When firing from a fixed mount, muzzle boresighting and aiming procedures shall be used to aim the weapon so the expected point of impact will be the center of the target. The group center of impact
21、 of at lease three consecutively fired spotter rounds must be within a 1 meter square located at the center of the target before firing the control or test rounds. i. (U) When firing from a fixed mount, once the gun has been spotted on the target for a test or control group, the elevation and deflec
22、tion of the weapon shall remain the same for that test group. Changes in the muzzle aiming point from round to round, shall be recorded by adjusting settings on the boresight to get back onto the original aiming mark. j. (U) when firing from a service tank, the following firing procedures shall be u
23、tilized: 1. Boresight the weapon on the center of target and apply super elevation utilizing a gunnery quadrant. Fire spotter rounds to assure the weapon is zeroed on the target center. After the target has been spotted for a shot group, every effort should be made to keep the elevation and d
25、eflection of the weapon the same for the shot group by relaying on the aiming stakes . 2. After loading and locking a round in the chamber, the gun tube shall be traversed left of target center, dropped down below target center, traversed to the opposite side of target center, elevated to target cen
26、ter elevation, and traversed onto target center. The distance traversed and dropped should be sufficient to remove the backlash from the system. If the sight is above or beyond target center, do not reverse direction of gun tube movement but repeat the sequence. 3. During dispersion testing a maximu
27、m of one minute shall elapse from final sighting until the round is fired. If the one minute is exceeded, the weapon shall be re-sighted prior to firing. k. (U) Target impact dispersion testing shall be fired in the following manner: five calibration rounds followed by ten test rounds. For data anal
28、ysis purposes, test and calibration groups shall be broken down into five round groups where possible (group sizes will vary if test is truncated). The standard deviations for the test and calibration groups shall be pooled by the equation of 6.7. 1. (U) The time interval between rounds (test, calib
29、ration and spotter) shall be the minimum time possible, with a maximum of 10 minutes between rounds permitted. If this maximum time is exceeded, then the test and calibration groups shall be truncated. The leftover rounds shall be fired as part of the next group or as a new group as applicable. Duri
30、ng testing from a service tank a maximum of one minute shall elapse from final sighting until the round is fired. If more than a thirty minute lapse occurs between group firings, or if there was an indication of trend in the previous groups target impacts to move away from the center of the target,

32、 Muzzle velocity shall be measured and recorded for each cartridge. For calibration rounds, pressure shall be obtained using two copper crusher gages placed in the base of the cartridge case. Gage numbers shall be recorded for each calibration cartridge. n. (U) For each test round, spotter and calib
33、ration round a clearly defined image (35mm smear) of the initial flight of the projectile (reference rounds, calibration rounds, test rounds, etc.) shall be recorded of 12.0 + 0.5 feet (3.66 + 0.15 meters) and 35.0 -t 0.5 feet (105-68 - + 0.15 meters) forward of the gun muzzle. o. (U) A TV camera or
34、 forward observer shall be placed at the target to observe and record target impacts. p. (U) Tracer flight shall be observed to the target. Any abnormality of flight is to be described (cork screwing, tumbling, yaw, etc.), as well as target impact information (hit target, short by 100 meters, left o
35、f target, etc.). If a round misses the target with no abnormality of flight, a statement to that effect should also be made. q. (U) Observations s.hall be made for conformance to all requirements. r. (U) All recorded information shall be provided in the firing report and submitted to the procuring a
36、ctivity (see 6.2.3). This shall include, as a minimum, wind velocities and wind directions at the gun tube, gun tube number, chamber pressure, muzzle velocity, impact Co-ordinates, misfire (see 3.4.1.1) and hangfire (see 3.4.1.2) , standard deviation (vertical and horizontal dispersion in mils) , ma
37、ximum spread (vertical and horizontal dispersion in centimeters), center of impact for test and calibration groups and metal parts security. s. (U) Testing shall not be performed during weather that may make observations inaccurate or otherwise affect the results of the test. Firings shall not be pe
38、rformed when a surface crosswind speed of 10 knots or when gusts 5 knots greater than the surface crosswind speed exist . e- - t. (U) In the event of adverse test conditions or failure of the calibration rounds to meet the requirements for the calibration round configuration when test rounds fail to

40、 “4.5.9 (U) Radiographic examinations. 4.5.9.1 (U) First article. The first article cartridges, including tank validation rounds, shall be radiographed in two positions 900 apart. The radiographs shall be examined for improper installation or adherance of the Ti02 liner to the cartridge case (see 3.
41、2.2) . 4.5.9.2 (U) Production. All ballistic test cartridges shall be radiographed in two positions 900 apart to inspect for improper installation or adherance of the liner (see 3.2.2) . Failure of one or more cartridges to meet the acceptance criteria shall result in rejection of those cartridges a
42、nd selection of a second sample for radiographic examination. The second sample shall be selected from the lot as follows: Cartridge Lot Size 200-4,999 5,000-10,000 Sample Size 200 315 Examination of the second sample and all subsequent inspection may be performed using either radiography, or fluoro
43、scopy in accordance with 4.5.9.2.1. Failure of one or more cartridges in the second sample, to meet the applicable criteria shall be cause for 100 percent radiographic or fluoroscopic screening of the remainder of the lot. Any cartridge failing to meet the acceptance criteria shall be cause for reje
44、ction of that cartridge. All cartridges failing to meet the acceptance criteria shall be separated from the lot and reported to the procuring activity (see 6.2.3) . 4.5.9.2.1 (U) Fluoroscopic inspection. Cartridges subjected to fluoroscopy shall be rotated 360 degrees to provide a complete inspectio
45、n. Fluoroscopic inspection shall use equipment and procedures approved in accordance with 4.4.4. 4.5.9.2.1.1 (U) Inspection verification. Adequacy of the fluoroscopic inspection shall be determined, by properly rejecting a cartridge containing an approved defect, at the beginning and end of each shi
