SCOPE 1.1 This specification covers the M1 pro- pellant for one ype of propelling charge for 75MM howitzer MlAl and M3. 2. A

2、PPLICABLE DOCUMENTS 2.1 The following documents of the issue in effect on date of invitation for bids or re- quest for proposal, form a part of this speci- fication to the extent specified herein. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Mater

4、ial. The propellant shall be MI, Type II, and conforming to the requirements of Standard MIL-STD-652. 3.2 Ballistics. The propellant, when fired in the weapon and with the weight of projec- tile for which it was manufactured, shall comply with the following requirements when tested as specified in 4

5、.3.1. 3.2.1 Velocity and pressure. The propel- lant, at 70 degrees Fahrenheit, shall be assessed to impart a service velocity of .381 meter per seconds (mps) at zone 4 to the projectile without exceeding a maximum rate pressure of 34,800 pounds per square inch, piezo equivalent pressure. 3.2.2 Unif

6、ormity of velocity. The standard deviation in velocity for the lot, at 70 degrees Fahrenheit, shall not exceed 1.22 mps. 3.3. Workmanship. The best commercial practices shall be used in the formulation of the propellant furnished under this specifi- cation and all other applicable documents. The pro

7、pellant and its standard ingredients shall be protected from the action of direct sunlight and acid fumes. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 General quality assurance provisions. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the supplier is responsible or the performance of all ins

8、pection require- ments specified herein. Except as otherwise specified, the supplier may utilize his own or any other inspection facilities and services acceptable to the Government. Inspection rec- ords of the examinations and tests shall be kept complete and available to the Govern- ment as specif

9、ied in the contract or order. Reference shall be made to Standard MIL- STD-109 in order to define terms used herein. The provisions of Specification MIL- A-2550 shall apply. 4.1. Contractor quality assurance sys

11、tem. The contractor shall provide and maintain an effective quality assurance system in com- pliance with the requirements of Specifica- tion MIlrI-45208. 4.1.2 Submissdm of product. At the time the completed lot of product is submitted to the Government for acceptance the contrac- tor shall supply

12、the following information accompanied by a certificate which attests that the information provided is correct and applicable to the product being submitted : (a) A statement that the lot complies with all quality assurance provi- sions of the approved current written description of the system. (b) N

13、umber of units of product in- spected. (e) Results obtained for all inspection performed. (d) Drawing, specification number and date, together with an identifica- tion and date of changes. (e) Certificates of analysis on all ma- terial procured directly by the contractor when such material is contro

14、lled by Government specifi- cations referenced in any of the contractual documents. (f) Number of items in the lot. (g) Date submitted. (h) Eight copies of propellant descrip- tion sheet, O0 Form 1204, contain- ing the applicable data. The certificate shall be signed by a responsi- ble agent of the

15、certifying organization. The initial certificate submitted shall be substan- tiated by evidence of the agents authority to bind his principal. Substantiation of the agents authority will not be required with subsequent certificates unless during the course ofhe contract2 this authority is vested in

16、another agent of the certifying or- ganization. 4.1.3 Government verification. Using the contractors written quality assurance proce- dure, this detail specification, the applicable drawings and other contractual documents as a guide, the Government inspector shall verify at unscheduled intervals al

17、l quality assurance operations performed by the con- tractor. Verification will be in accordance with Specification MILI45208 and will be performed to the extent necessary to assure compliance with the contractual require- ments. Severity of Government inspection of individual characteristics will b

18、e directly re- lated to the seriousness of the classification assigned. In no instance will a characteristic classified “critical” be accepted solely on the basis of the contractors records. 4.2 Inspection provisions. 4.2.1 Lot formatiom. A lot shall consist of one or more batches of MI Propellant p

19、ro- duced by one manufacturer, in accordance with the same specification or same specifi- cation revision, under one continuous set of operating conditions. Each batch shall con- sist of that quantity of MI Propellant which has been subjected to the same unit chemical or physical mixing process inte

20、nded to make the final product homogeneous. 4.2.2 Testhg. 4.2.2.1 Ballistics. (See 3.2). A sample of 30 pounds shall be randomly selected from the lot for the ballistic test. A ten-round uni- formity series shall be fired after condition- ing the rounds at 70 degrees Fahrenheit. 4.2.2.1.1 Velocity a

21、nd pressure (Cyitical defect). The lot shall be rejected if the calculated pressure at the charge recom- mended for prescribed service velocity ex- ceeds the average maximum pressure limitation specified in 3.2.1. Code No. 01001. 4.2.2.1.2 Velocity unifomity (Major de- fect). The lot shall be reject

22、ed if the standard deviation of the uniformity series times the factor 0.73 fails to comply with the applicable requirement (see 3.2.2). f- ,.
