Scope*1.1 This specification2covers double-normalized and tem-pered 9 % nickel steel plates intended par

3、ticularly for weldedpressure vessels for cryogenic service.1.2 Plates produced under this specification are subject toimpact testing at 320F 195C or at such other tempera-tures as are agreed upon.1.3 The maximum thickness of plates is limited only by thecapacity of the material to meet the specific

4、mechanicalproperty requirements; however, current mill practice normallylimits this material to 2 in. 50 mm max.1.4 This material is susceptible to magnetization. Use ofmagnets in handling after heat treatment should be avoided ifresidual magnetism would be detrimental to subsequent fabri-cation or

8、ts and Ordering Information3.1 Material supplied to this material specification shallconform to Specification A20/A20M. These requirements out-line the testing and retesting methods and procedures, permit-ted variations in dimensions, and mass, quality and repair ofdefects, marking, loading, and ord

9、ering information.3.2 In addition to the basic requirements of this specifica-tion, certain supplementary requirements are available whenadditional control, testing, or examination is required to meetend use requirements. The purchaser is referred to the listedsupplementary requirements in this spec

10、ification and to thedetailed requirements in Specification A20/A20M.3.3 If the requirements of this specification are in conflictwith the requirements of SpecificationA20/A20M, the require-ments of this specification shall prevail.4. Manufacture4.1 Steelmaking PracticeThe steel shall be killed andsh

11、all conform to the fine austenitic grain size requirement ofSpecification A20/A20M.5. Heat Treatment5.1 All plates shall be heat treated in accordance with 5.2.Shell plates and other parts, including heads and reinforcingpads that are heated for forming shall be heat treated afterforming in accordan

12、ce with 5.2.5.2 Heat Treatment Procedure:5.2.1 First Normalizing TreatmentHeat the plate to auniform temperature of 1650 6 25F 900 6 15C, hold atthat temperature for a minimum of 1 h/in. 2.4 min/mm ofthickness, but in no case less than 15 min, and cool in air.5.2.2 Second Normalizing TreatmentReheat

17、ge from 1050 to 1125F 565 to605C, hold within that temperature range for a minimum of1 h/in. 2.4 min/mm of thickness, but in no case less than 15min, and cool in air or water quench at a rate not less than300F/h 165C/h.5.2.4 If hot forming is performed after heating to a tempera-ture within the rang

18、e from 1650 to 1750F 900 to 955C thefirst normalizing treatment (5.2.1) may be omitted.5.2.5 When the plates are heat treated by the fabricator, itshall be the fabricators responsibility to apply the proper heattreatment and to conduct tests it deems necessary to ensure thatthe specified properties

19、are attained.6. Chemical Requirements6.1 The steel shall conform to the chemical compositionrequirements shown in Table 1 unless otherwise modified inaccordance with Supplementary Requirement S17, VacuumCarbon-Deoxidized Steel, in Specification A20/A20M.7. Mechanical Requirements7.1 Tension Test Req

20、uirementsThe material as representedby the tension-test specimens shall conform to the require-ments specified in Table 2.7.1.1 Upon agreement between the purchaser and the manu-facturer, yield strength may be determined by the extensionunder load method, using 0.005 in./in. 0.005 mm/mm totalextensi

21、on.7.1.2 For nominal plate thicknesses of34 in. 20 mm andunder, the 112-in. 40-mm wide rectangular specimen may beused for the tension test and the elongation may be determinedin a 2-in. 50-mm gage length that includes the fracture andshows the greatest elongation.7.1.3 One tension test shall be tak

22、en from each plate as heattreated.7.2 Impact Test Requirements:7.2.1 Charpy V-notch impact tests shall be made in accor-dance with Specification A20/A20M.7.2.2 The longitudinal axis of the test specimens shall betransverse to the final rolling direction of the plate.7.2.3 Unless otherwise agreed, te

23、sts shall be conducted at320F 195C.7.2.4 Each test specimen shall have a lateral expansionopposite the notch of not less than 0.015 in. 0.381 mm.8. Finish8.1 Because retained scale may mask surface imperfections,as well as mar the plate surface, plates shall be descaled by theproducer after heat tre

24、atment. In the case of material to beheat-treated by the purchaser, the plates shall be descaled bythe producer prior to shipment.9.
