16、s and Manufacture5.1 The steel shall be made by any commercially acceptedsteel making process. The steel may be either ingot cast orstrand cast.6. Chemical Composition6.1 The grade designation shall be as specified in thepurchase order.6.2 Chemical ranges and limits, and procedures for analysisshall
17、 be in accordance with Test Methods, Practices, andTerminology A751.7. Mechanical Properties7.1 The carbon steel wire shall meet the tensile strengthrequirements shown in Table 1 for the condition specified whentested in accordance with Test Methods and Definitions A370.8. Dimensions and Tolerances8
18、.1 The diameter and out of roundness shall not vary bymore than the tolerances specified in Specification A510.9. Workmanship9.1 The wire shall be free of detrimental imperfections. Toensure large continuous length coils, welds may be present inthe finished wire.10. Finish10.1 Hard drawn wire may be
19、 furnished with a variety offinishes depending upon the drawing practices used by themanufacturer. Unless otherwise specified in the purchase order,the wire is normally produced with a common dry drawnfinish, usually referred to as a bright finish. Other finishes arealso available such as clean and
20、extra smooth wire, requiringspecial drafting practices.10.2 Annealed in process wire is furnished with a brightfinish.10.3 Unless otherwise negotiated between the purchaser andmanufacturer, annealed at finish size wire is supplied with ablack oxide finish resulting from regular annealing.11. Samplin
21、g11.1 Test specimens for testing mechanical properties shallbe full sections and shall be obtained from ends of wire coils.The specimens shall be of sufficient length to perform testsspecified in 7.1.11.2 If any test specimen is found to contain a weld orexhibits other obvious imperfections, it shal
22、l be discarded andanother specimen substituted.12. Inspection13.1 The manufacturer shall afford the inspector represent-
29、ing the purchaser all reasonable facilities to satisfy him that thematerial is being furnished in accordance with this specifica-tion. All tests and inspections shall be made at the place ofmanufacture prior to shipment, unless otherwise specified, andshall be so conducted as not to interfere with t
30、he operation ofthe works.14. Rejection and Rehearing14.1 Any rejection by the purchaser shall be reported to themanufacturer within a reasonable time from receipt of material.14.2 The material must be adequately protected and cor-rectly identified in order that the manufacturer may make aproper inve
31、stigation.15. Certification15.1 When specified in the purchase order or contract, aproducers or suppliers certification shall be furnished to thepurchaser that the material was manufactured, sampled, tested,and inspected in accordance with this specification and hasbeen found to meet the requirement

When specified in thepurchase order or contract, a report of the test results shall befurnished.15.2 The certification shall include the specificationnumber, year date of issue, and revision letter, if any.16. Packaging and Package Marking16.1 Unless otherwise specified, packaging, packagemarking
33、, and loading for shipment shall be in accordance withPractices A700.16.2 The size, name of product, grade and condition,ASTMspecification number, weight, and name or mark of the manu-facturer shall be indicated on a tag securely attached to eachcoil or package of wire.16.3 When specified in the con
34、tract or order, and for directprocurement by or direct shipment to the U. S. Government,when LevelAis specified, preservation, packaging and packingshall be in accordance with LevelArequirements of MIL-STD-163.16.4 When specified in the contract or order, and for directprocurement by or direct shipm
35、ent to the U. S. Government,marking for shipment, in addition to requirements specified inthe contract or order, shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-129 for U. S. Military agencies and in accordance with Fed.Std. 123 for U. S. Government civil agencies.16.5 Bar CodingIn addition to the previously-st
36、ated iden-tification requirements, bar coding is acceptable as a supple-mentary identification method.
