3、 specimens of chemical-resistant sulfur polymercement concrete (SC) in the laboratory. The specimens are castunder accurate control of materials and test conditions usingaggregate and sulfur polymer cement (SPC) to make SC thatcan be consolidated by rodding, as described in this practice.1.2 Sulfur

4、polymer cement may be furnished as a single ormultiple component system.1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. Significance and Use4.1 This practice is for making specimens of SC in astandard way so that comparative testing can be performed byvarious producers and users. Use of th

8、is practice to preparespecimens for laboratory testing will reduce variability thatmight be introduced by different methods of casting and by theuse of a variety of specimen shapes and sizes.5. Apparatus5.1 Molds:5.1.1 Molds for Specimens or Fastenings Thereto in Contactwith the SC shall be made of

9、steel, cast iron, or othernonabsorbent materials that are nonreactive with concretescontaining either SPC, its components, or other polymercements.5.1.2 Size of the Molds shall conform to the dimensions andtolerances specified in the procedure for which the specimensare required. Molds shall hold th

10、eir dimensions and shapeunder conditions of severe use.5.1.3 Condition of the Molds for Casting shall be watertight.A suitable sealant, such as modeling clay, shall be used wherenecessary to prevent leakage through joints. Positive meansshall be provided to hold base plates firmly to the molds. Ifcy

11、linders are filled vertically and immediately stored horizon-tally for cooling, positive means also shall be provided to holdtop plates firmly to the molds. Reusable molds shall be lightlycoated with mineral oil or a suitable nonreactive releasematerial before use.5.2 Cylinder Molds:5.2.1 Molds for

12、Casting Specimens Vertically shall conformto the requirements of 5.1 and Specification C470/C470M.5.2.2 Molds for Casting Specimens Vertically and StoringHorizontally shall conform to the requirements for symmetryand dimensional tolerances of Specification C470/C470M.Provision shall be made for fixi

16、9. United States15.3 Beam and Prism Molds shall be rectangular in crosssection (unless otherwise specified) and of the dimensionsrequired to produce the desired specimen size. The insidesurfaces of the molds shall be smooth and free from indenta-tions. The sides, bottom, and ends shall be at either

17、equal orright angles to each other and shall be straight, true, and free ofwarpage. Maximum variation from the nominal cross sectionshall not exceed18 in. (3.2 mm) for molds with depth orbreadth of 6 in. (152 mm) or more, or116 in. (1.6 mm) formolds of smaller depth or breadth. Except for flexurespe

18、cimens, molds shall not vary from the nominal length bymore than116 in. Flexure molds shall not be shorter than therequired specimen length but may exceed it.5.4 Consolidation, Mixing, and Other Miscellaneous Equip-ment shall be specified by the manufacturer see AppendixX1.5.5 Weighing Equipment sha

19、ll be capable of weighingmaterials or specimens to 60.3 % accuracy. The weighingequipment shall meet the National Institute of Standards andTechnology requirements for sensitivity and tolerances.5.6 Concrete Mixer A power-driven revolving-paddlemixer or suitable equivalent capable of thoroughly mixi

20、ngbatches of the prescribed sizes at the required temperaturesshall be used.6. Test Specimens6.1 Cylindrical SpecimensCylinders for such tests ascompressive strength, modulus of elasticity, creep, and split-ting tensile strength may be of various sizes with a minimumof 1 in. (25 mm) diameter by 2 in

21、. (50 mm) length. Otherwise,dimensions are governed in accordance with 6.4 and the testmethod concerned.6.1.1 Cylindrical specimens for tests shall be molded withthe axis of the cylinder vertical but may be allowed to hardenin the horizontal position.6.2 Prismatic SpecimensBeams for flexural strengt

22、h,cubes for compressive strength, prisms for freezing andthawing, bond, length change, volume change, and so forth,shall be cast with their long axes vertical, unless otherwiserequired by the method of test in question, and shall conformin dimension to the requirements of the specific test method.6.

23、3 Other Specimens Other shapes and sizes of specimensfor particular tests may be molded as desired following thegeneral procedures set forth in this practice.6.4 Specimen Size Versus Aggregate SizeThe diameter ofa cylindrical specimen or minimum cross-sectional dimensionof a rectangular section shal

24、l be at least three times themaximum size of the coarse aggregate in the SC (see Note).Occasional oversize aggregate particles (of a size not normallyfound in the average aggregate grading) shall be removed byhand picking during the molding of the specimens.NOTE 1The nominal maximum size of coarse a

25、ggregate is that sizenext larger than the largest sieve on which at least 15 % of the aggregateby weight is retained.6.5 Number of SpecimensThe number of specimens andthe number of test batches are dependent on establishedpractice and the nature of the test program. Guidance is usuallygiven in the t

26、est method or specification for which thespecimens are made. Usually, three or more specimens aremolded for each test age and test condition unless otherwisespecified.7. Materials Preparation7.1 Sulfur Polymer CementStore the SPC or its compo-nents in a dry location away from any sources of heat.7.2

27、 Equipment and Materials Temperature :7.2.1 For casting SC specimens, heat the mold, hand tools,and mixing equipment to 240F295F (115145C) unlessotherwise specified by the manufacturer.7.2.2 Until added to the coarse and fine aggregates, the SPCor its components and mineral filler shall remain at am

28、bientroom temperature and not exposed to any sources of heat.7.3 Aggregates:7.3.1 A sufficient amount of coarse aggregate and fineaggregate shall be combined for each batch in the proportionsand in the manner specified by the manufacturer to produce thedesired grading before drying and heating.7.3.2

29、 Before incorporating mineral filler and SPC or itscomponents into the concrete mixer, make sure that the desiredtemperature has been reached and that the final mixturetemperature can be maintained within the allowable range asspecified by the manufacturer.8. Procedure8.1 Mixing Sulfur Polymer Cemen

30、t Concrete:8.1.1 GeneralMix SC according to manufacturers rec-ommendations in a suitable mixer in batches of such size as toleave about 10 % excess after molding the test specimens.Mixing sequence and procedure from batch to batch should notvary unless the effect of such variation is under study.8.2

31、 Making Specimens:8.2.1 Casting Molds Cast specimens as near as practi-cable to the place where they are to be stored during the first 2h. Place molds on a rigid surface free from vibration and otherdisturbances. Avoid jarring, tilting, or damaging of the surfacewhen moving the specimens to the stor

32、age place.8.2.2 CastingPlace SC in the molds using appropriatehand tools and ensure that it is representative of the batch.8.2.2.1 Number of Layers Make the specimens in twoapproximately equal layers of SC, making sure to overfill themold with the second layer.8.3 Consolidation The method of consoli

33、dating shall beas recommended by the manufacturer.8.4 Finishing:8.4.1 Vertically Cooled Cylinders After consolidation,finish the surface of the SC to produce a flat, even surface thatis flush with the overfill rim or extended edge of the mold.8.4.2 Horizontally Cooled Cylinders AlternativeAfterconso

34、lidation, strike off the specimen level with the top of themold, secure the top cap on the mold, and immediately lay thefilled mold in a horizontal position to cool.C1312 97 (2012)29.
