3、rior Radiation Control CoatingSystems (IRCCS) for use in building construction. The scopecontains instructions related to the use and installation ofIRCCS that are sprayed, rolled, or brush applied. Examplesthat this practice is intended to address include: (1) lowemittance surfaces in vented buildi
4、ng envelope cavities in-tended to retard radiant transfer across the vented airspace; (2)low emittance surfaces at interior building surfaces intended toretard radiant transfer to or from building inhabitants; and (3)low emittance surfaces at interior building surfaces intended toreduce radiant tran
5、sfer to or from heating or cooling systems.1.2 This practice covers the installation process from pre-installation inspection through post-installation. It does notcover the production of the Interior Radiation Control CoatingMaterials.1.3 This practice is not intended to replace the manufactur-ers
6、installation instructions, but it shall be used in conjunctionwith such instructions. This practice is not intended to super-sede local, state, or federal codes.1.4 This practice assumes that the installer possesses a goodworking knowledge of the application codes and regulations,safety practices, t
7、ools, equipment, and methods necessary forthe installation of Interior Coating Materials. It also assumesthat the installer understands the fundamentals of buildingconstruction that affect the installation of an IRCCS.1.5 When the installation or use of Interior RadiationControl Coating Materials, a
8、ccessories, and systems posesafety or health problems, the manufacturer shall provide theuser appropriate current information regarding any knownproblems associated with the intended use of the products andshall also provide direction on protective measures to beemployed for safe utilization. The us
9、er shall establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applicabil-ity of regulatory requirements prior to use.1.6 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. 17、used for the sole purpose of limiting heat transfer byradiation and is not specifically intended to reduce heat transferby convection or conduction.3.2.4 open air spacea vented building cavity (forexample, a vented attic) or a large conditioned or uncondi-tioned building space.3.2.5 DiscussionA larg

Significance and Use4.1 This practice recognizes that effectiveness, safety, anddurability of an IRCCS depends not only on the quality of thematerials, but also on the proper installation.4.2 Improper installation of an IRCCS wil
20、l reduce itsthermal effectiveness, cause fire risks and other unsafeconditions, and promote deterioration of the structure in whichit is installed. Improper installation has the potential to createspecific hazards that include: heat buildup in recessed lightingfixtures, deterioration of failure of e
21、lectrical wiringcomponents, and deterioration of wood structures and paintfailure due to moisture accumulation.4.3 This practice provides directions for the installation ofIRCCS materials in a safe and effective manner. Actualconditions in existing buildings will vary greatly.4.4 The user shall cons
22、ult the manufacturer for applicationand installation methods.5. Safety Precautions5.1 The applicator shall meet all of the requirements of themanufacturer, code, and their contract for safety.5.2 Ventilation shall be provided to ensure that mist andoverspray are immediately dispersed from the applic
23、ation area.When natural ventilation is not adequate, place OSHA ap-proved fans in windows or doors adjacent to the applicationarea to improve ventilation. Warnings shall be provided forareas where ventilation is exhausted. Ventilation of the areas ofapplication shall meet all of the requirements of
24、themanufacturer, code, and the installation contract.5.3 The instructions provided by the manufacturer shall beconsulted for all applicable handling and safety requirements.6. Pre-Installation Inspection and Preparation6.1 Inspections:6.1.1 Inspect the roof, walls, ceilings, and floors to identifyar
25、eas where previous or existing moisture problems havecaused paint peeling, warpage, stain, visible fungus growth,rotting, or other structural damage. Do not apply IRCCS insuch areas until the owner has been informed and has certifiedthese conditions have been corrected and the source(s) elimi-nated.
26、6.1.2 In areas where the IRCCS is to be applied, compo-nents of the electrical system shall be in good condition. Whenthere is reason to believe the electrical system is faulty, do notapply the IRCCS in such areas until the owner has beeninformed and qualified inspection and repair have been per-for
27、med.NOTE 1The CPSC Guide to Home Wiring Hazards has identified thefollowing signs of potential electrical deficiencies: lights dimming, fusesblowing, circuit breakers tripping frequently, electrical sparks and glowingfrom receptacles, light flickering, and cover plates on switches and outletsthat ar
28、e warm or hot to the touch. Useful safety information is alsocontained in the NFPA 54 and NFPA 211.6.1.3 In areas where an IRCCS is to be applied, theapplicator shall locate and plan the application around venti-lation openings. The applicator shall not apply the IRCCS in away that will plug or othe
29、rwise obstruct existing ventilationopenings.6.1.4 All inspections for wood grade stamps must be com-plete before application of the product.6.2 Preparations:6.2.1 All electrical wiring at or near the IRCCS applicationsurfaces shall be protected to ensure that the IRCCS materialcannot contact the ele
30、ctrical wiring system.6.2.2 Where attic ventilation is compromised by the instal-lation of an IRCCS or the subsequent application of fibrousinsulation, vent baffles shall be installed at the soffits of theattic such that attic ventilation airflows are maintained inaccordance with applicable building
31、 codes.NOTE 1Apply IRCCS to cover the exposed roof deck area includingsupport structure directly connected to the roof deck (such as purlins,rafters, and top chord of the trusses). The instructions provid
33、ed by themanufacturer shall be consulted for type of mixing equipmentand mixing methods to be employed. When material is to besprayed from a pressure pot, the pot shall be equipped with anair driven agitator.7. Installation Guidelines7.1 Material Handling:7.1.1 The IRCCS materials shall be applied,
34、handled, andstored in accordance with manufacturers instructions.7.1.2 The IRCCS materials shall not be applied in directcontact with corrosive building materials.7.2 Performance Considerations:7.2.1 The performance of the IRCCS depends on adherenceto the installation instructions provided by the ma
35、nufacturer.The installation instructions and local building codes shall befollowed. The manufacturer shall provide product sheet(s) thatspecify the products intended use(s), application method(s),health and safety considerations, and material properties toinclude: (1) the IRCCS surface emittance det
36、ermined inaccordance with Test Method C1371;(2) the applied materialwater vapor transmission rate, in accordance with Test Meth-ods E96/E96M and; (3) the applied material surface burningcharacteristics in accordance with Test Method E84.7.2.2 The performance of the IRCCS is dependent on themaintenan
37、ce of an open airspace facing the low emittancesurface.7.2.3 The performance of the IRCCS are affected by foreignmaterials on the low emittance surface. After application,foreign materials shall be removed using manufacturersinstructions, taking care not to damage the IRCCS surface.7.2.3.1 Some IRCC
38、S will provide a high resistance to watervapor transmission. An IRCCS shall not be applied so as tolead to moisture accumulation and deterioration in the struc-ture.7.2.4 All roof support structure directly connected to theroof deck (such as purlins, rafters, and top chord of trusses)shall be coated
39、 on any exposed surface.7.3 Post-installationThe applicator shall provide a signedand dated statement describing the IRCCS applicator, installedin accordance with Practice C1321 and the area covered.8.
