Terminology3.1 DefinitionsClay, fire clay, shale, and surface clay aredefined in Terminology C43.4. Classification4.1 Liner plates manufactured in accordance with this sp
6、eci-fication shall be known as curved liner plates or flat linerplates.5. Materials and Manufacture5.1 Liner plates shall be manufactured from fire clay, shale, surface clay, or a combination of these materials that, whenformed into liner plates and fired to suitable temperatures, yielda product that
7、 is strong, durable, serviceable, free of objection-able defects, and conform to this specification.6. Physical and Chemical Requirements6.1 AbsorptionThe absorption of liner plates shall notexceed 6 %.6.2 Acid Resistance:6.2.1 This test is used to determine the resistance of linerplates to the acti
8、on of acids. The test shall be performed onlywhen specified.6.2.2 Liner plates shall be acceptable if the acid-solublematter does not exceed 0.25 %.7. Dimensions and Permissible Variations7.1 Tenon Ribs:7.1.1 Liner plates shall have either three or five longitudinal, monolithic, dovetail tenon ribs u
9、niformly and symmetricallyspaced on the back of the plate (see Note 1). When five tenonribs are used, the outer fin of the exterior tenons shall beeliminated so that parallel jointing faces between abuttingplates may be achieved.NOTE 1Special liner plates are available for linings where tenon ribsar

They are furnished in the same thickness, length, andwidth as standard liner plates.7.1.2 Tenon ribs shall be of trapezoidal cross section tofirmly key or attach the plate into the backup material with amortising type of fastening. The ratio of the dimension of thelarger base to the s
11、maller base shall be about 8 to 5, with thesmaller base dimension to be58 618 in. (16 6 3.2 mm). Thesmaller base of the trapezoid shall be adjacent to the liner plate.7.2 Length:7.2.1 Length is the overall dimension of the liner plate whenmeasured in the same direction as the tenon ribs.7.2.2 Liner
12、plates shall be available in standard lengths of 6in. (150 mm), 9 in. (230 mm), 12 in. (305 mm), 18 in. (460mm), or 24 in. (610 mm), with a tolerance of + 0, 14 in./ft oflength ( + 0, 21 mmm of length).7.3 Width:7.3.1 The width of curved liner plates shall be 914 618 in.(235 6 3.2 mm) measured along
13、 the radial arc.7.3.2 The width of flat liner plates shall be 9 618 in. (2306 3.2 mm).1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee C04 onVitrified Clay Pipe and is the direct responsibility of Subcommittee C04.20 onMethods of Test and Specifications.Current edition approved Dec. 1
