Significance and Use3.1 This test method provides a controlled laboratory testfor the determination of quantitative volumes of emulsi

Sample Conditioning for Testing4.1 All emulsified asphalts shall be properly stirred toachieve homogeneity before testing.4.2 All emulsified asphalts with viscosity testing require-ments of 50C shall be heated to 50 6 3C in t

6、he originalsample container in a water bath or oven. The container shouldbe vented to relieve pressure. After the sample reaches 50 63C, stir the sample to achieve homogeneity.4.3 Emulsified asphalts with viscosity testing requirementsof 25C should be mixed or stirred at 25 6 3C in the originalsampl

7、e container to achieve homogeneity.NOTE 1Emulsified asphalts with viscosity testing requirements of25C may be heated and stirred as specified in 4.2 if necessary. In theevent the 4.2 method is used, the sample should be cooled to 25 6 3Cbefore testing.5. Apparatus5.1 Density CupStainless steel measu

8、re of known stan-dard volume (83.2 mL).5.2 Balancecapable of being read to the nearest 0.01 g.5.3 Water Bathconstant-temperature, maintained at 25 60.5C.5.4 ThermometerASTM 17C or 17F conforming to therequirements of Specification E1or equivalent thermometricdevice.6. Procedure6.1 Stir the emulsifie

9、d asphalt sample and place in aconstant-temperature water bath maintained at 25 6 0.5C forapproximately 1 hr.6.2 Place the measure and its cap on the balance, tare, andzero the balance.6.3 Remove the emulsified asphalt sample from the bath andstir, using care to avoid trapping air in the sample. If

10、necessary,strain through a 850-m sieve to remove any skin or film thatmight be present in the emulsified asphalt.6.4 Bring the measure to approximately 25C and pour theemulsified asphalt into the measure, filling it completely (orwithin 2 mm of the rim).6.5 Start placing the cap into the measure and

11、 remove, witha clean dry rag or paper, the excess emulsified asphalt oozingthrough the orifice in the cap.6.6 When the cap is placed on tightly, clean the measurecarefully, weigh on the tared balance to the nearest 0.01 g, andrecord.7. Calculation7.1 Calculate the density of the emulsified asphalt a

18、DUREX1.1 The weight per gallon cup has been used for testing ofvarious materials (emulsified asphalts, paints, lacquer, otherliquids) for a number of years. This Appendix is intended toprovide a recommended basis for the verification of thecapacity of the cup, or a cup factor to make determinationsm

19、ore accurate.X1.2 Recommended ProcedureWeigh the empty cup withcover and record the weight (optional: tare the balance).Condition the cup and distilled water to 25 6 0.5C (77 61F). Fill the cup within 2 mm of the rim with the distilledwater, being careful not to incorporate any air bubbles.Carefully

20、 place the cover on the cup, and seal it with a rotarymotion. Wipe off the excess water that exudes through the holein the cover and around the rim. Reweigh the filled cup, coverand water after wiping and find the net weight of water(optional: read weight directly from previously tared balance).Net
