Themembrane is fully or partially attached, and is applied to thepositive or wet side of a vertical substrate below-grade.4. Significance and Use4.1 A waterproofing membrane should maintain it

19、s water-tight integrity for the life of the building in a continuously orintermittently moist environment and may be subject to con-tinuous or intermittent hydrostatic pressure. It should resistchemicals that can harm the membrane and root growth. Thisguide lists minimum performance attributes requi

20、red of water-proofing membranes applied to below-grade walls. Productsnot previously used as waterproofing membrane materialsrequire additional tests beyond the scope of this guide. Thisguide is not intended for use on in-service waterproofingmaterials. Waterproofing membranes and other componentssh

21、ould conform to ASTM product standards, if available.4.2 LimitationsPrior to use and in service, waterproofingmay be exposed to a variety of conditions so no one test willprovide evaluations related to performance for all exposures.Neither will all tests be necessary in all evaluations for specifice

22、xposures.5. Waterproofing Membrane Performance Attributes6.1 The following general attributes are required for awaterproofing membrane:6.1.1 Perform under continuously moist conditions andalternate wetting and drying.6.1.2 Perf

24、orm under hydrostatic pressure.6.1.3 Resist acids, alkalis, and other chemicals includingsuch as those commonly contained in fertilizers and soilpoisoners.6.1.4 Resist fungus and bacteria in soils.6.1.5 Possess low water absorption.6.1.6 Resist puncture for membranes that lack a protectioncourse.6.1

25、.7 Possess a moderate degree of elongation and elasticity.6.1.8 Possess sufficient flexibility to enable unrolling orcuring properly without failure.
