The principal difference between this revision

8、and the 1981 edition is that values for plant spread are given in terms of ranges rather than minima. It has been assumed in the drafting of this Part of BS3936 that the execution of its provisions is entrusted to appropriately qualified and experienced people. A British Standard does not purport to

9、 include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. 11、d cover plants, compost and containers, if used, and labelling. An indication of whether the plants are deciduous, evergreen or herbaceous is included for information only inTable 1. 2 Definitions For the purposes of this British Standard the following definitions apply. 2.1 country of origin the co

12、untry where the plant has grown for the latter half of the most recent growing season 2.2 ground cover plants plants that are suitable to be transplanted and that grow to produce a dense ground cover that discourages weeds 2.3 container-grown plants plants which have grown in any type of container (

13、e.g.pot, plastics bag, peat block) for sufficient time for root growth to have substantially filled the container 2.4 containerized plants plants in containers but which have not been in the container long enough to have made substantial new root growth 3 Root system 3.1 The species listed inTable 1

14、 shall be supplied in one or more of the following forms of root system:bare root, root-balled, containerized or container-grown. Table 1 also indicates the species which shall be supplied root-balled or container-grown. NOTE 1The root system should be balanced in relation to the plant and should be

15、 conducive to successful transplanting and growth. NOTE 2Container-grown plants, whatever time of year they are sold, should have been established in the container long enough for substantial new root growth to have been produced. 3.2 Root balls shall be supported with a suitable material. NOTEHessi

16、an is considered to be a suitable material. 3.3 Containerized plants shall be sold only during the season when deciduous plants are dormant. 4 Condition 4.1 When inspected visually, plants shall be free from any obvious pest or disease and shall be materially undamaged. Roots shall not have been sub

17、jected, between lifting and delivery, to adverse conditions such as waterlogging or prolonged exposure to drying winds or to frost. NOTEIf plants are packaged, the packaging should be adequate to protect the plants, especially from drying out and harm from high or low temperatures. 4.2 When inspecte

18、d visually, any root ball or compost supplied with the plants shall be free from perennial weeds. 4.3 At the time of sale, conifers shall have at least two branches and other woody plants shall have at least three branches, arising at or near the surface of the growing medium. 4.4 Herbaceous, i.e.no

19、n-woody, plants shall have definite stem shoots which may be below the surface of the growing medium. 5 Dimensions 5.1 The species and cultivars listed inTable 1 shall be of the spread given in Table 1 as appropriate. The spread of herbaceous plants shall be measured when the plants are in leaf. 5.2

20、 These requirements shall apply also to other species and cultivars of growth habits similar to those listed inTable 1. 5.3 The size of containers or volume of compost per plant (except for those sold bare root or root-balled) shall be as given inTable 1. 6 Designation and labelling 6.1 Each consign

21、ment shall be accompanied by the following particulars so as to provide easy and adequate identification at the point of acceptance of delivery: a) name(s) of the plants; b) name of the supplier (except in cases where the plants are sold expressly for resale); c) the number of this British Standard,

22、 i.e.BS3936-10:1990 1) 6.2 If the country of origin is not the UK, the supplier shall state this fact either on a label or with the information provided as specified in6.1 and give the country of origin on request. 6.3 If the plants are containerized (see2.4) the supplier shall state this fact eithe

23、r on a label or with the information provided as specified in6.1. 1) Marking BS3936-10:1990 on or in relation to a product represents a manufacturers declaration of conformity, i.e.a claim by or on behalf of the manufacturer that the product meets the requirements of the standard. The accuracy of th

24、e claim is therefore solely the responsibility of the person making the claim.
