The series implements corresponding International Standards in the development of which the UK has played an active part

This Part of BS4193 is identical with ISO7406 “Bore type milling cutters for indexable inserts Designation” which was published in1986 by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC29, Small tools. Terminology and conventions. The text of

8、 the International Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as a British Standard without deviation. Some terminology and certain conventions are not identical with those used in British Standards; attention is drawn especially to the following. The comma has been used as a decimal mar

9、ker. In British Standards it is current practice to use a full point on the baseline as the decimal marker. Wherever the words “International Standard” appear, referring to this standard, they should be read as “Part of BS4193”. The Technical Committee has reviewed the provisions of ISO3002-1:1982 t

15、pecifications for such tools. ISO7848, Shank type milling cutters for indexable inserts Designation. 3 Explanation of the code The code consists of eleven symbols of which the first ten symbols shall be used in any designation. The last symbol shall be used only for side and face (slotting) milling cutters

18、, shell end mills and slab milling cutters. Four symbols designate the characteristics of the body and seven the clamping and characteristics of the inserts. In addition to the standardized designation (symbols e to o), a supplementary symbolp consisting of a maximum of two letters and/or numbers ma

19、y be added by the manufacturer after the standardized designation for a better description of his products, subject to this symbol being separated from the standardized designation by a dash. No addition to or extension of the code given in this International Standard shall be made without consultat

20、ion with technical committee ISO/TC29 and its agreement. Rather than adding symbols not provided for in this system, it is preferable to add to the designation conforming to this International Standard any necessary explanations in detailed sketches or specifications. The meaning of the eleven symbo

39、qual to the nominal cutting width in millimetres (disregarding any decimals) of side and face (slotting) milling cutters, shell end mills and of slab milling cutters. For cutting widths smaller than10mm, the first digit shall be0 (zero). Example: NOTEThe possibility of adjusting the cutting width of

40、 side and face milling cutters shall be indicated in the catalogues for these tools. The nominal width is in this case the mean value of the adjusting range.
