、 has been prepared under the direction of the Adhesives Standards Policy Committee. This edition introduces technical changes but it does not reflect a full review or revision of the standard, which will be undertaken in due course. This edition differs from the previous edition in that the scope ha

、s been amended to emphasize that the test is not intended to be used for providing numerical design data; also references to other British Standards have been brought up-to-date. Under sustained constant force the adhesive in a bond may flow and allow adherends to move relative to one another. The i

、rreversible part of this movement is known as creep. The force involved may be very much smaller than that which the bond will support for short periods. All the test methods in which a force is applied to an adhesive bond may be used for the measurement of creep and resistance to sustained applicat

、ion of force. The tests for determination of cleavage (Part C1), determination of strength in direct tension (Part C3), determination of peel strength (Part C14) and determination of strength in shear (Parts C5 and C15) may be used. These tests may be carried out in the normal environment or under c

、onditions influenced by other environments. Arrangements are required for observation of the movement of adherends relative to one another, or for determination of time to failure, over extended periods. Such methods are therefore not normally used as batch control tests. The test does not necessari

This British Standard calls for the use of substances and/or procedures that may be injurious to health if adeq

、the arrangement shall comply with grade 2.0 of BS1610-1:1985. NOTEThe equipment described in clause 5 a) of BS 3544:1962 is suitable for use to obtain time-to-failure data. Provision shall be made to measure small movements accurately over known and sometimes protracted time intervals. This shall be

、 done by either: a) periodic observations of marked test pieces by cathetometer, measuring microscope, or other suitable device; b) movement of mirrors mounted on knife edges attached to adherends. This allows some magnification of the changes occurring. 4 Procedure 4.1 Adherends Selection, dimensio

、ns and preparation of adherends shall be in accordance with the procedure laid down in the corresponding test for adhesive bond strength as given in Parts C1, C3, C5, C14 and C15 of this standard. 4.2 Bonding Apply the adhesive and make the bond by the methods recommended by the manufacturer of the

In the absence of such recommendation, the procedure shall be as indicated in the corresponding test for adhesive bond strength as given in Parts C1, C3, C5, C14 and C15 of this standard. 4.3 Testing Set up the test assembly in the appropriate manner, establish the required environment, an

、 or c) the mean time to failure. 6 Test report The report shall state the following: a) a designation of the adhesive, giving all information required for complete identification of the sample; b) a description of the adherends and of their pretreatment; c) the method of applying the adhesive, the a
