4、 has been prepared under the direction of the Adhesives Standards Policy Committee. This edition introduces technical changes but it does not reflect a full review or revision of the standard, which will be undertaken in due course. This edition differs from the previous edition in that the scope ha

5、s been amended to emphasize that the test is not intended to be used for providing numerical design data; also references to other British Standards have been brought up-to-date. Under sustained constant force the adhesive in a bond may flow and allow adherends to move relative to one another. The i

6、rreversible part of this movement is known as creep. The force involved may be very much smaller than that which the bond will support for short periods. All the test methods in which a force is applied to an adhesive bond may be used for the measurement of creep and resistance to sustained applicat

7、ion of force. The tests for determination of cleavage (Part C1), determination of strength in direct tension (Part C3), determination of peel strength (Part C14) and determination of strength in shear (Parts C5 and C15) may be used. These tests may be carried out in the normal environment or under c

8、onditions influenced by other environments. Arrangements are required for observation of the movement of adherends relative to one another, or for determination of time to failure, over extended periods. Such methods are therefore not normally used as batch control tests. The test does not necessari

9、ly reflect how the adhesive would perform in service. Such design data would usually be obtained using the construction materials and configurations used in an actual design. WARNING NOTE. This British Standard calls for the use of substances and/or procedures that may be injurious to health if adeq

10、uate precautions are not taken. It refers only to technical suitability and does not absolve the user from the legal obligations relating to health and safety at any stage. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are respo

11、nsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. Summary of pages This document comprises a front cover, an inside front cover, pages i and ii, pages1 and 2 and a back cover. This standard has been updated (see copyri

This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover.BS5350-C7:1990 BSI 07-1999 1 1 Scope This Part of this British Standard describes the application of test methods in which force is applied to an adhesive bond to determine dis

This test is not intended to be used for obtaining data for design purposes. 2 References This Part makes ref

If the force is applied by suspending weights on a test rig the accuracy of

17、the arrangement shall comply with grade 2.0 of BS1610-1:1985. NOTEThe equipment described in clause 5 a) of BS 3544:1962 is suitable for use to obtain time-to-failure data. Provision shall be made to measure small movements accurately over known and sometimes protracted time intervals. This shall be

18、 done by either: a) periodic observations of marked test pieces by cathetometer, measuring microscope, or other suitable device; b) movement of mirrors mounted on knife edges attached to adherends. This allows some magnification of the changes occurring. 4 Procedure 4.1 Adherends Selection, dimensio

19、ns and preparation of adherends shall be in accordance with the procedure laid down in the corresponding test for adhesive bond strength as given in Parts C1, C3, C5, C14 and C15 of this standard. 4.2 Bonding Apply the adhesive and make the bond by the methods recommended by the manufacturer of the

20、adhesive. In the absence of such recommendation, the procedure shall be as indicated in the corresponding test for adhesive bond strength as given in Parts C1, C3, C5, C14 and C15 of this standard. 4.3 Testing Set up the test assembly in the appropriate manner, establish the required environment, an

21、d apply a constant force. If displacement of the adherends is to be measured, observe the displacement at convenient intervals and record the maximum total movement prior to distortion of adherends, failure of the assembly or cessation of movement. If creep only is to be determined, measure the disp

NOTEIf in time-to-failure tests periodic observations are made, the chosen conditions of the test should be such that failure of the test pieces occurs at a time compatible with an acceptable experimental error. Largest errors occ

The maximum error in a 7-day test is 4.4 Number of tests The number of tests depends on the precision required (see Part E1) and shall be reported in the test report

NOTEReliance should not be placed on fewer than five tests. 16100 247 -10 % approximately. =BS5350-C7:1990 2 BSI 07-1999 5 Expression of results The results of the test shall be expressed as: a) the mean of the total movements in millimetres between adherends at the selected intervals, giving an i

25、ndication of the spread of the results and the standard deviation (see Part E1); b) in cases where creep only is to be measured, the total movement in millimetres at the selected interval, calculated as the difference between the original measurement and that measured after the removal of the force;

26、 or c) the mean time to failure. 6 Test report The report shall state the following: a) a designation of the adhesive, giving all information required for complete identification of the sample; b) a description of the adherends and of their pretreatment; c) the method of applying the adhesive, the a

27、mount used or the bond-line thickness, and the open time; d) the method of making the bond, including details of the bonding pressure, temperature, relative humidity and conditioning time; e) the force applied to the bond, the duration of the test, and the environmental conditions; f) the result of

28、the test; g) the state of the test specimens at the end of the test, e.g. distorted, fractured, mode of separation; h) the accuracy of the movement-measuring apparatus (if applicable); i) that the method of test complied with BS 5350-C7; j) any other factor that may have affected the result.blankBS
