23、 which the fittings are made shall be acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) polymer.NOTE If the pipe is intended for use with foodstuffs or pharmaceuticals, attention is drawn to the guidance given in British Plastics Federation publication, Plastics in contact with food A guide 2.4.2 The Vicat soft
24、ening temperature of the material from which fittings are is made shall be determined in accordance with BS EN ISO 306:2004, method B50. The deformation temperature of the material shall not be lower than 90 C.4.3 When using reprocessable material, it shall be from either:a) fittings manufactured in
25、 accordance with this standard; orb) pipe manufactured in accordance with BS 5391-1.5 Classification of fittings5.1 The pressure class of a fitting shall be classified in accordance with Table 1, according to its suitability for maintaining a particular maximum sustained working pressure.5.2 The sha

33、Figure 1.BS 5392-1:20064 BSI 20067 Physical and mechanical characteristics7.1 Appearance and colour7.1.1 The internal and external surfaces of the fitting shall be smooth, clean and free from surface defects to an extent that would prevent conformity to this standard.7.1.2 The colour of the fitting
34、shall be agreed between manufacturer and purchaser.NOTE Preferably, the colour should be grey.7.2 Stress relief7.2.1 Stress relief shall be tested in accordance with Annex A.7.2.2 After testing in accordance with Annex A:a) cracking around the weld line shall not penetrate more than 20% of the wall
35、thickness of the fitting;NOTE Weld lines may become more pronounced during the test but this shall not be deemed to constitute failure.b) for fittings moulded by side-gating techniques, cracking and delamination at the point of injection shall penetrate to a depth of no greater than 20% of the wall

37、ques, e.g. ring or diaphragm methods, cracking and delamination in the wall of the fitting adjacent to the injection area shall be parallel to the axis and shall penetrate to a depth of no greater than 20% of the socket length.7.2.3 The assessment of the depth of penetration of cracks or delaminatio
38、ns shall be carried out by sectioning the specimen, at the weld line and at the point of injection, and measuring the depth to which these defects penetrate the wall thickness of the fitting.7.3 Short term hydrostatic resistance7.3.1 Short-term hydrostatic resistance shall be tested in accordance wi
39、th Annex B.7.3.2 During testing, the fitting shall withstand the appropriate internal hydrostatic pressure in Table 4, for at least 1 h without failure.7.4 Long term hydrostatic resistance7.4.1 Long-term hydrostatic resistance shall be tested in accordance with Annex C.7.4.2 During testing, the fitt

43、ests are not suitable for subsequent use in service and shall not be taken into stock or reprocessed.8 Assessment of conformityNOTE Guidance on the assessment of conformity is given in Annex D.9 Marking9.1 Markings shall either be printed or formed directly on a fitting, or printed on a label attach
44、ed to the fitting, in such a way that legibility is not affected by storage, weathering and handling.9.2 Marking shall not initiate cracks or other types of defects that adversely influence the performance of the fitting to such an extent that the pipe cannot conform to this standard.9.3 The size of
45、 the marking shall be such that the marking is legible without magnification.9.4 Fittings shall be marked longitudinally with, as a minimum:a) the manufacturers name and/or trade mark;b) the number of this British Standard, e.g. BS 53921);NOTE Future revisions of this standard will drop Part 1 from
46、the identifier because there are no other parts to this standard. In preparation for this, fittings conforming to this standard are allowed to be marked with “BS 5392” instead of “BS 5392-1”.c) the pressure class as given in Table 1, e.g. Class E;d) the nominal size, as given in Table 2, e.g. 4;e) t
47、he material, i.e. ABS;f) the manufacturers information, including:1) the batch number or the production period (year and month), in figures or in code form; and2) if the manufacturer is producing at different sites, a name or code for each of the production sites.9.5 If the marking is printed on the
48、 fitting, the colour of the printed information shall differ from the colour of the fitting.10 Stocking and transportFor the purpose of stocking and transport, fittings shall be protected from damage.1)Marking BS 5392 on or in relation to a product represents a manufacturers declaration of conformit
49、y, i.e. a claim by or on behalf of the manufacturer that the product meets the requirements of the standard. The accuracy of the claim is solely the claimants responsibility. Such a declaration is not to be confused with third-party certification of conformity.
