7、n of BS5550 has been prepared under the direction of the Cinematography and Photography Standards Policy Committee. It is identical with ISO2404:1986 Cinematography Six-track magnetic sound records on70mm striped release prints Locations and dimensions, published by the International Organization fo

8、r Standardization (ISO). This Subsection of BS5550 supersedes BS5550-4.4.1:1980, which is withdrawn. In reviewing ISO2404:1979 (adopted as BS5550-4.4.1:1980), the UK anticipated and supported the US proposals to change magnetic stripe widths, as given in clause3. The UK requested that magnetic heads

9、 be more accurately aligned, and that, in clause4, “90 5” be changed to “90 3”. Other countries accepted this UK proposal, duly incorporated in this revision. Additional information. It should be noted that it is difficult to maintain the same distance from the film edge to the outer edge of the mag

10、netic stripes. Liquid stripe lacquer is applied to a moving film base, and the resulting sound track has a slightly wavy edge. This dimension (given as F at one edge of the film and G at the other edge of the film in ISO 2404:1979, and given as B at each edge of the film in this revision) has been c

11、hanged from0.1mm to0.2mm. NOTEThe latest edition of ISO3023 is ISO3023:1988; it was not published at the time of publication of ISO2404:1986. ISO3023:1988 was not adopted as a British Standard since it contained only editorial changes. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary

16、he locations and width dimensions of magnetic stripes and gaps of magnetic heads shall be as shown in theFigure and as given in the table. NOTE 1For reference only. NOTE 2The locations and width dimensions of magnetic stripes and recording gaps of magnetic heads are chosen on the assumption that the

17、 lateral film shrinkage is within the range of0 to0,2% at the time of striping and/or recording. NOTE 3The locations of reproducing gaps of magnetic heads for projectors are chosen on the assumption that the lateral film shrinkage at the time of presentation is0,2% greater than at the time of stripi

18、ng. The locations of reproducing gaps of magnetic heads in the equipment used for the production of release prints can be the same as that for the recording heads. 4 Alignment of heads The gaps of recording and reproducing magnetic heads respectively shall be in line at an angle of90 3 to the direct

19、ion of the film travel. 5 Sound recording For the listener facing the screen, the stripes shall be used for the sound recording for the following channels: Stripe No. 1 for the extreme left channel Stripe No. 2 for the left central channel Stripe No. 3 for the central channel Stripe No. 4 for the ri

20、ght central channel Stripe No. 5 for the extreme right channel Stripe No. 6 for the loudspeakers in auditorium or for recording (monitoring) signals inaudible to a spectator Audio records No.4 and5 shall be recorded adjacent to the frameline identifier as shown in theFigure. NOTEIn special motion-pi

21、cture films, for achieving certain sound effects, some other arrangement of the stripes on the release print is warranted. 6 Picture-sound displacement The magnetic sound records on the film shall lag behind the centre of the corresponding picture by a distance of24 1/2 frames. NOTEWith the picture-

22、sound displacement on the film of24frames and the projector threaded at25 frames, synchronization of picture and sound will be correct for an observer at a distance of about15m (50ft) from the screen. 7 Reproducing speed The recording shall be made so that the sound records will reproduce properly a

23、t120 perforations per second, i.e.24 frames (5 perforations each) per second. This results in a linear speed of approximately34m/min (112ft/min).
