9、s Policy Committee. Metal stud framing, being an integral part of a partition, contributes to the partitions overall performance and to test or assess in isolation, the strength and other properties of studs and channels would be meaningless. It is envisaged that the strength and robustness of a com

10、plete partition will be assessed by test methods to be given in the revision of BS5234 which is in preparation. Product certification. Users of this British Standard are advised to consider the desirability of third party certification of product conformity with this British Standard based on testin

11、g and continuing surveillance, which may be coupled with assessment of a suppliers quality systems against the appropriate Part of BS5750. Enquiries as to the availability of third party certification schemes will be forwarded by BSI to the Association of Certification Bodies. If a third party certi

12、fication scheme does not already exist, users should consider approaching an appropriate body from the list of Association members. This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover.BS7364:1990 BSI 09-1999 1 1 Scope This British Standard specifies the requirements for material and dimensional tolerances of steel studs and channels used to form the framework for gypsum wallboa

15、rd lined metal stud partitions and wall linings, where the gypsum wallboards, complying with BS1230-1, conceal the metal framing and are secured to it by screws. It does not specify the number, size, profile and metal thickness of stud and channel selected. This standard does not include components

16、for frame and sheet partitions, panel partitions, frame and panel partitions or components for use in stud and sheet partitions where facings other then gypsum wallboard are used. Structural strength is not specified. NOTEThe titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the

17、inside back cover. 2 Definitions For the purposes of this British Standard the definitions given in BS6100 apply together with the following. NOTEFigure 1 illustrates typical stud and channel profiles, boxed and spliced studs. 2.1 partition 1) internal dividing non-loadbearing vertical construction

18、NOTEIt is incorrect to assume that there is no subjection to incidental loads, particularly lateral loads. 2.2 lining dry covering to any internal building surface 2.3 framed partition 1) partition consisting of a continuously supported plane frame with facings or infillings 2.4 stud and sheet parti

19、tion framed partition in which the studs and other ancillary members are concealed by the facings 2.5 frame and sheet partition framed partition in which the framework is exposed 2.6 panel partition partition of rigid panels without supporting framework 2.7 frame and panel partition framed partition

20、 in which the panels are supported by an exposed framework 2.8 wallboard manufactured sheet or board used to line a wall or partition 2.9 stud 1) one of a number of vertical members in a framed partition 2.10 boxed stud stud made of two sections fixed together to form a box section for most of its l

22、cilitate the location of screws 2.15 dutch bend free edge of section folded back to form a tight180 bend 2.16 thickness total thickness of steel including coating on both sides 3 Materials Studs and channels shall be manufactured from galvanized mild steel strip, steel grade Z2 and zinc coating type

23、 G275minimum, complying with BS2989. 24、spliced studBS7364:1990 BSI 09-1999 3 4 Manufacture 4.1 General Studs and channels shall be cold formed sections and shall comply with clause5. Sections shall be free from kinks and other local deformations that impair their use. NOTESections may include ribs or dutch bends to improve stiffness. 4.2

25、 Cutting and holing Cutting shall be by shearing, cropping or sawing at right angles to the length, unless otherwise specified. Holes shall be punched or drilled. Any excess burrs and sharp edges shall be removed. The size, number and location of cut-outs and knock-outs shall be at the discretion of

26、 the supplier. NOTE 1Depending upon their size, number and location, cut-outs and knock-outs reduce the strength of studs and the effect this is likely to have on the overall performance of the partitions can only be assessed by testing a sample partition. It is envisaged that a method of test for s

27、trength and robustness will be published in a revision of BS5234 which is in preparation. NOTE 2The enlargement of any cut-out or knock-out should be by agreement between the purchaser and the supplier. 4.3 Knurling The outside surface of stud flanges shall be knurled or similarly treated to facilit

28、ate the location of screws used to fix wallboards. 5 Measurement and tolerances 5.1 General The tolerances specified shall apply to both studs and channels unless otherwise stated. The size, profile and metal thickness of the studs and channels shall be agreed at the time of enquiry and order. 5.2 T

29、hickness The thickness, including coating on both sides, shall be measured at any point in the flat area of the web and the tolerance on the thickness shall be as given in Table10 of BS2989:1982 for type G275coating. NOTE 1For convenience, the relevant parts of Table10 of BS2989:1982 have been repro

30、duced in Appendix A. NOTE 2Typical nominal thicknesses are0.55mm,0.7mm and0.9mm. In addition studs may be1.2mm. 5.3 Length Length shall be measured along the web of a straight stud or channel and the tolerance shall be3mm. 5.4 Width 5.4.1 Measurement Widths shall be measured between outside surfaces

31、, in line with metal and at right angles to the length, except for the width of Z stud webs which shall be measured at right angles to the flanges. 5.4.2 Webs Tolerances on stud and channel web widths shall be 0.4mm from the specified dimension. NOTEStud web widths are less than matching channel web

32、 widths seeFigure 1(c). 5.4.3 Flanges Tolerances from the specified flange widths shall be as follows: a) 0.75mm for channels; b) 0.4mm for studs. Stud return flanges shall have a minimum width of6mm. Flanges of asymmetrical C studs shall be dimensioned to facilitate an interlocking assembly as boxe

33、d or spliced studs. NOTEBoxed studs provide increased strength and rigidity, spliced studs provide increased lengths. SeeFigure 1(d) and Figure 1(e). 5.5 Angular tolerances The angular tolerance between web and flange shall be1 from the design angle, except within150mm of the end of the stud or chan

34、nel where it shall be2 . 6 Marking Studs and channels shall be legibly and permanently marked with the following information: a) the number and date of this British Standard, i.e.BS7364:1990 2) ; b) the web width and nominal metal thickness; c) the suppliers identity. 7 Product information The suppl

35、ier shall make available, on request, fully dimensioned drawings of the profiles of the studs and channels. 2) Marking BS7364:1990 on or in relation to a product represents a manufacturers declaration of conformity, i.e.a claim by or on behalf of the manufacturer that the product meets the requireme

36、nts of the standard. The accuracy of the claim is, therefore, solely the responsibility of the person making the claim. NOTE 2If thickness is specified as a minimum with tolerances all+, the permissible variation is equal to the total tolerance. For example,a specified minimum thickness of2.60mm permits 0,+ 0.38mm

40、(for materialk 1200mm wide) and the nominal thickness would be2.79mm. However, where as a result, the nominal thickness then falls within the next higher range for nominal thicknesses, the tolerances for the higher range apply, e.g.if a minimum thickness of2.90mm is ordered, the tolerance range woul
