、erational duties and in training. They are also used by civilians engaged in activities where the risks of attack and assault are similar, e.g. private security personnel, bullion handlers, escorts and couriers. These gloves are intended to reduce the risk of injury from edged weapons. The test meth

、ods specified in this part of BS 7971 have been designed to measure the performance of gloves with respect to the protection they can be expected to provide against this hazard. However, these tests do not necessarily compare with the conditions to which police officers, prison officers and other us

、ers can be exposed in real life situations, where the mechanical hazards encountered might be different. 1 Scope This part of BS 7971 specifies performance requirements and test methods for slash resistant gloves for use by police and prison officers and others who might be exposed to attack and ass

、ault in the course of their duties, for use in operational situations and in training. NOTE 1 Information and guidance on the use of these gloves is given in Annex A. NOTE 2 Guidance on risk assessment and the selection, care and maintenance of protective clothing and equipment for use in violent si

、(informative) Information and guidance on the use of slash resistant gloves The gloves specified in this part of BS 7971 are intended to protect against slash injuries from edged weapons and glass. These gloves are intended to enable operatives to use all the other protective clothing and equipment

、designed for use in violent situations and in training (e.g. personal defence shields) without removing their gloves. The provision of such dexterity necessitates limitation of the stiffness and thickness of the gloves, and thus limits the protection that can be provided. WARNINGS: Users should ensu

、re that the gloves are compatible with their chosen defence equipment such as batons, incapacitant sprays and handcuffs. The gloves cannot be expected necessarily to protect against stabs and perforations inflicted in direct blows from, for example, sharp knives, spikes or needles, or against injury

、 by chain saws or samurai swords. The gloves cannot be expected to protect against direct blows by, for example, bricks, bottles, bars, slates or hand held weapons such as metal or wooden bars, bats or poles. The gloves might not protect against burns by burning liquids, flames or hot objects. The g
