Computersystemsarenowusedbymanyhealthcarepersonsforthestorageandprocessingofinformation. Physicians,dentists,andveterinariansrequest,viaaprescripti

31、onmessage,thatpharmacistsdispensemedicines andappliancesforthetreatmentofpatients/animalsbyaprocesscommonlycalled”prescribing”. Standardsarerequiredtofacilitateelectronictransferofprescriptionmessagesandreportsbetweenthemany systemscurrentlyused.Informationtransferredintheprescriptionmessageandanyre

32、portspassingbetween healthcarepartiesformpartoftheinformationsystemofeachofthecommunicatingparties.Electronictransfer oftheseprescriptionmessagesandreportsreducestheneedformanualentryandtheriskoftranscriptionerrors. Italsoresultsingreaterefficiencyleadingtobetterhealthcareprovision. Thisstandardrequ

33、iresmedicinalproductstobedefinedinawaythatsignificantlyreducestheriskof misinterpretationofissuedprescriptionmessages.Thefollowingshouldbeparticularlynoted: Officialnamesortitlesofmedicinesshouldbeusedastheymayotherwisebemisinterpreted; Thestrengthandquantitytobecontainedincapsules,lozenges,tablets,

35、ter systemsusedbyhealthcarepartiesprescribing,dispensingoradministeringmedicinalproducts/medicinal appliances a) .ThecontentandstructureofthemessagesspecifiedinthisEuropeanprestandardhavebeen developedwiththeaimofoptimisingthesafetyofprescribinganddispensingandtofacilitatecompliance monitoringandsec

WhenevermedicinalproductsarementionedwithinthisEuropeanprestandard,medicinalappliancesmaybe substitutediftheyservesimilarpurposesandcanberepresentedinsimilarwaysinamessageasmedicinal products.
