Computersystemsarenowusedbymanyhealthcarepersonsforthestorageandprocessingofinformation. Physicians,dentists,andveterinariansrequest,viaaprescripti
31、onmessage,thatpharmacistsdispensemedicines andappliancesforthetreatmentofpatients/animalsbyaprocesscommonlycalled”prescribing”. Standardsarerequiredtofacilitateelectronictransferofprescriptionmessagesandreportsbetweenthemany systemscurrentlyused.Informationtransferredintheprescriptionmessageandanyre
32、portspassingbetween healthcarepartiesformpartoftheinformationsystemofeachofthecommunicatingparties.Electronictransfer oftheseprescriptionmessagesandreportsreducestheneedformanualentryandtheriskoftranscriptionerrors. Italsoresultsingreaterefficiencyleadingtobetterhealthcareprovision. Thisstandardrequ
