28、)aremeasuredbyreflectancemethods inordertoobtainanumericalrepresentationofthecolourofthespecimen. NOTES 1Properequipmentsetup,standardizationofthecolourmeasuringinstrumentandproperpresentationofthetest specimenstotheinstrumentarerequiredtoachieveconsistent,reliableandmeaningfulreflectancemeasurement

29、 results. 2Ingeneral,instrumentalcolourmeasurementproceduresaredictatedbythetypeofspecimentobemeasured andtheinstrumentwithwhichitwillbemeasured.Manytypesofcolourmeasuringinstrumentationareavailable, differinginsuchfeaturesasareaofview,illuminationmethod,andgeometry.Theuseriscautionedthat conflictin

30、gresultsmaybeobtainedoncomparisonsofdataacquiredoninstrumentsofdifferentdesigns. 5 Apparatus 5.1 Reflectancecolourmeasuringinstrumen t,forilluminatingaspecimenandmeasuringthe amountoflightwhichisreflectedfromthesurfaceofthespecimen.Illuminationisusuallypolychromatic (whitelight);howevermonochromatic

31、modeisacceptablefornonfluorescentspecimens.Reflectance colourmeasuringinstrumentsmaybebroadlydividedintotwogroups: a)Spectrophotometers(typicallydiffuse/0,usingpolychromaticillumination)separateandmeasure thespectrumoflightreflectedfromthespecimenrelativetoareferencewhiteatregularintervals (waveleng

32、thintervalsof5nm,10nmand20nmaremostcommon).Thesedatamaybeusedto calculatethedesiredtristimulusvalues (X,Y,Z)foranygivenilluminantandobserver.Some spectrophotometers(typically0/diffuse)illuminatethesamplewithmonochromaticlightandmeasure theamountoflightreflectedfromthesurfaceasthesampleisilluminateda

33、tregularwavelength intervals. b)Colorimetersmeasurethetristimulusvalues (X,Y,Z)directlythroughbroadbandfilterswhichare designedtoproducecolorimetricvaluesforoneilluminantandobserver(typicallyC/2).Measurement ofreflectancefactorsatspecificwavelengthsisnotpossiblewithacolorimeter. Withinthesetwocatego

34、ries,theinstrumentsarefurtherdefinedbytheirgeometryasdefinedin3.3. EN ISO 105-J01:19994 Diffuse/0(sphere)instrumentsilluminatethespecimenindirectlywhenthespecimenisplacedagainsta portopeningintoadiffuselyilluminatedsphereandviewthespecimenatananglebetween 0 and10 fromtheperpendicular.Thisarrangement

35、isdesignedtocapturealllightreflectedfromthespecimen. Somesphereinstrumentswithaviewinganglegreaterthan 0 includeaspecularportwhichpermitsthe inclusionorexclusionofthespecularreflectance. 0/diffuse(sphere)instrumentsaresimilar,butthepathofilluminationandviewingarereversed.This methodilluminatesthesam

36、pleatananglebetween 0 and10 andmeasurestheamountoflightreflected fromthesurfaceintothesphere. Instrumentswith45/0(or0/45)geometryilluminatethespecimenatthefirstangleandviewthespecimen atthesecond.Thesetwogeometriescanbeeithercircumferential(viewingorilluminatingat45tothe specimeninacompletecircle)or

37、directional.Formosttextilesamples,either45/0or0/45yield equivalentresults. 5.2 Whitecalibratedstandard ,withwhichtostandardizetheinstrument.Thecolorimetricvaluesfor thiscalibrationstandardarestoredintheinstrumentorthesoftwareandrequireonlythataspecific standardbeusedtostandardizetheinstrument.Thecor

38、rectwhitestandardisusuallyidentifiedwitha serialnumber. 5.3 Blackstandard ,requiredforsomeinstruments.Itmaybeofzeroreflectance(alighttrap)orit maybecalibrated,inwhichcasethecommentsin5.2apply. 6 Procedure 6.1 General a)Collectandpreparespecimen,notinganyspecialsamplingand/orconditioningprocedurestha

39、tmay berequiredasdescribedin6.3(seealsoannexA). b)Standardizeinstrumentaccordingto6.2.Maintainarecordoftheprocedureandtheresultsofany verificationstandardsmeasured. c)Presentspecimentocolourmeasuringinstrumentfollowinganyspecialtechniquesrequiredforthe typeofmaterialbeingmeasuredpersection6.4(seeals

40、oannexA). d)Measurethecolourofthespecimen,obtainingtheappropriatespectralreflectancefactors(or tristimulusvaluesifacolorimeterisused). e)Calculatecolorimetricvalues,ifrequired,asdescribedinclause7. 6.2 Standardization Properstandardizationofanycolourmeasuringinstrumentisnecessaryinordertoachievemore

41、precise andaccurateresults.Whiledifferenttypesofinstrumentsrequirevaryingmethodsofstandardization, therearecommonprincipleswhichshallbeobserved. EN ISO 105-J01:19995 Ingeneral,instrumentstandardizationinvolvesmeasuringacleanwhitesurfaceofknownreflectance factorsandcalculating(throughsoftwarebuiltint

42、otheinstrumentorcomputerprogram)aseriesof correctionfactorswhichwillbeappliedtosubsequentmeasurements.Someinstrumentsalsorequirea blacktile(orlighttrap),andpossiblyagreytile.Eachofthesematerialsshallbemaintainedinitsoriginal clean,unscratchedcondition.Refertothespecificmanufacturersrecommendationsfo

43、rcleaning instructions. Thefrequencywithwhichthisstandardizationisperformeddependsonmanyfactorsincludingthetype ofinstrument,theenvironmentalconditionsinwhichtheinstrumentoperates,andtherequiredaccuracy oftheresults.Formostapplications,anintervalof2hto4hisacceptable. Oncethestandardizationstephasbee

44、nperformed,itisimportanttoverifythesuccessoftheprocedure bymeasuringsomecolouredmaterial s (verificationstandards)andcomparingtheresultingcolorimetric valuestotheoriginalvaluesforthesematerials.Ifthemeasuredvaluesdonotfallwithinanacceptable variationfromtheiroriginalvalues,thestandardizationisnotconsideredvalid.Thenumberof verification standardsandtheacceptabilitylimitsdependonuserrequirements,butaret
