Such entities are often handled by seve

19、ral parties, both public and private, throughout their lifecycle. Each of these parties must be able to identify and trace such distinct entities so that reference can be made to associated information such as quality inspection data, the chemical substance contained, the batch or lot number of part

20、s, components or raw materials, etc.The associated information is typically held in some kind of database. The information can be accessed using EDI exchange or another appropriate access protocol, e.g. a directory access protocol.There are considerable benefits if the identity of the entity is repr

21、esented as a bar code or other AIDC (Automatic Identification and Data Capture) media and attached to, or made a constituent part of, that which is being uniquely identified so that: it can be read electronically, thus minimizing errors; one identity can be used by all parties; each party can use th

22、e identity to look up its computer files to find the data associated with the entity.All AIDC technologies have the potential to encode an identity. It is expected that application standards, using various automatic identification technologies, will be developed based upon the identity as a prime ke

23、y. These application standards, which can include additional rules for which level of identification should be used, are often made available from the Issuing Agency.The procedures and obligations needed to construct an identity to achieve unique identification of an entity are defined in this part

24、of ISO/IEC 15459. 25、nd outlines the obligations of the Registration Authority.This part of ISO/IEC 15459 excludes those entities where ISO has designated Maintenance Agencies or Registration Authorities to provide identity and/or identifier schemes. It does not apply to: freight containers, because their unique coding

26、is specified in ISO 6346, Freight containers Coding, identification and marking; vehicles, because their unique identification is specified in ISO 3779, Road vehicles Vehicle identification number (VIN) Content and structure ; car radios, because their unique identification is specified in ISO 10486

27、, Passenger cars Car radio identification number (CRIN).The exclusion also applies to: ISO 2108, Information and documentation International standard book number (ISBN) and ISO 3297, Information and documentation International standard serial number (ISSN);NOTE The scope of each of ISO 2108 and ISO

28、3297 identifies the title rather than the individual copy of a book or periodical. As such, the level of identification achieved is at a level similar to the unique identity as defined in ISO/IEC 15459-6. 32、ply to the Registration Authority for the registration and assignment of an Issuing Agency Code (IAC). Application form is available or provided up on request from the Registration Authority. Separate application forms should be submitted for each IAC requested.The Registration Authority for ISO/IEC

33、 15459 is listed at:http:/www.iso.org/iso/maintenance_agencies.htm.Applicants shall:a) comply fully with the procedures outlined by the Registration Authorityb) forward to the Registration Authority a completed application formc) receive the completed application form containing the IAC assigned by

34、the Registration Authority5 Registration AuthorityThe Registration Authority responsibilities are to:a) receive, acknowledge and process applications from organizations wishing to become an Issuing Agency in accordance with this part of ISO/IEC 15459 (see Clause 4)b) produce, maintain and publish an

35、 IAC register (list of assigned IACs). The register shall be published in alphabetical order (in English) of Issuing Agency names, and of IACs. The register of IACs shall be a freely available documentc) advise successful applicants of the IAC assignedd) maintain the database of Issuing Agency ident

36、ification information6 Issuing Agency Code (IAC) allocationIACs shall be allocated from the upper case character A to Z (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N ,O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z) and the numeric digits (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9).a) IACs A J shall be reserved for organizations

37、 which are allocated a single character code. These organizations shall, in addition to the criteria for approval as set out in Clause 4, meet the following criteria:1) be multi-national and be represented in all of the national member countries of JTC 1/SC 31;2) have official external liaison statu

38、s with ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 31;3) be a not for profit organization;4) have a formal, long term relationship with at least five thousand issuers of unique identities.b) IACs with first character K shall be reserved for national public administration and shall be completed with the relevant alpha-2 countr

39、y code as established by ISO 3166-1. Public administrations using the IAC K shall apply to the Registration Authority. Such application shall be accompanied by an endorsement from the National ISO/IEC Member Body if such body exists in the country;c) IACs with first character L-U shall be reserved f

40、or organizations which are allocated a two character IAC. These organizations must, in addition to the criteria for approval as set out in Clause 4, meet the following criteria:1) be represented in more than three of the national member countries of ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 31;2 ISO/IEC 2015 All rights rese
