16、specifiesamethodforthedeterminationofsodiumcontentsequaltoorgreaterthan 1mg/kg. Thismethodisapplicabletofattyacidmethylestersintendedforadditiontomineraloils. WARNINGTheuseofthismethodmayinvolvehazardousequipment,materialsandoperations.This methoddoesnotpurporttoaddresstoallofthesafetyproblemsassoci

17、atedwithitsuse,butitisthe responsibilityoftheusertosearchandestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddetermine theapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse. 2Principle Thevegetableoilmethylestersampleisdilutedwithaxylenesolution. Thesodiumcontentinthesampleisdirectlydeterminedbyflameatomi

18、cabsorptionspectrometryatthe wavelengthof589nm.Thecalibrationsolutionsusedarepreparedfromasodiumorganometallicsaltdissolvedin amixtureofxyleneandstockoil.Theadditionofstockoiltothecalibrationsolutionsisnecessaryinorderto improvetheirstorage(thelowelementcontentsareunstable)andthelinearityofthecalibr

19、ation. WARNINGTheestersampleshallbedilutedatleast25timeswithxylenesothatthecomparisonofthe measurementsofthesamplesolutionandstandardsisvalid. NOTE Xylenecanbereplacedbycyclohexaneorlightpetroleuminthoselaboratoriesthatarenotauthorizedtouse aromaticsolvents. 3Reagents Useonlyreagentsofrecognisedanal
