APPLICATION This specification was released originally for material used as bumper reinforcements. CONTROL ITEM - AFFECTS G

REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.1 CHEMICAL COMPOSITION (ASTM E 34) Silicon 0.25 max Iron 0

7、SE 2T (ASTM E 290) Test samples in the as received condition prior to solution heat treatment, shall pass a 90 bend test at room temperature with the minimum inside bend radius on sheet stock under 0.180 in (4.6 mm) thickness not to exceed the above limits. (T denotes sample thickness.) Note: Somewh

8、at more liberal radii may be required during fabrication of parts. 3.5 HEAT TREAT PROCESS T61 TEMPER As a final operation, all parts must be heat treated using the following sequence: Solution heat treat for 5-10 min at 400 to 470 C. Force air quench to approximately 90 C at a min rate of 3.3 C/s ov

9、er the range 385-200 C. Incubate at room temperature for 8 h min Artificially age as follows: a) Start at room temperature. b) Heat at 55 C/h max between both room temperature incubation step and first step age (c) and between first step age and second step age (d). c) First step: Soak 2 h at 120 +/

10、 5 C d) Second step: Soak 4 h at 160 +/- 5 C. Note: All temperatures shown above are metal temperature. 3.6 EXCO (ASTM G 34) Master samples of aluminum exhibiting worst case Exco ratings of “EB“ and “EC“ are on file at the BEPE Materials Engineering Office. In case of dispute between standard refer

11、ence photographs shown on ASTM G 34 and the master samples, the master samples shall govern. Duplicate pairs of master samples are available from BEPE Materials Engineering upon written request from suppliers currently producing parts or material to this specification. Note: The chemistry and heat t

12、reatment of this alloy is critical to the Exco test performance. Therefore, both aluminum supplier and heat treater must be approved to qualify as sources to this specification. Qualified aluminum sources and heat treaters will be shown on the corporate approved source sheet. ENGINEERING MATERIAL SP

14、formed on periodic basis to establish a statistical confidence that the requirements, listed in Table I, are being maintained. The Exco test is not normally a raw material release requirement. 3.6.2 Component Heat Treater - Exco Three coupons, each 2x3 in (50x75 mm), from the same lot of aluminum us

15、ed for the production components are to be tested for each production lot. A production lot represents one heat in an artificial aging oven. The coupons shall be processed through the complete T61 heat treat cycle per paragraph 3.5 along with the production parts. The three test coupons shall be cyc

16、led through the solution heat treat oven to best represent the thermal treatment of production parts. The coupons are to be room temperature aged, then placed in the artificial aging ovens with one coupon at each of the following established locations: (1) lowest temperature area (2) highest tempera

17、ture area (3) typical or mean temperature area. The three coupons are to be Exco tested (ASTM G 34) and statistical confidence established daily that the requirements of Table I are being maintained. 3.7 MANUFACTURING All forming, fabrication and welding of parts must be completed in the “O“ temper

18、prior to heat treating parts to the “T61“ temper. 3.8 MICROSTRUCTURE The microstructure after proper heat treatment to the T61 temper shall be predominantly unrecrystallized. No continuous network of recrystallized grains is permitted through the thickness of the sheet. This does not apply to heat a

19、ffected weld zones. 5. GENERAL INFORMATION The information given below is provided for clarification and assistance in meeting the requirements of this specification. 5.1 WELDABILITY The following processes can be used to weld the material approved to this specification: GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG) and c

20、overed electrode stick welding. A decrease in both mechanical properties and corrosion resistance may occur in weld heat affected zones because of recrystallization. Note: The Welding Development Department of the Manufacturing Processes Laboratory should be consulted for appropriate welding schedules.
