The Exco test is not normally a raw material release requirement. 3.6.2 Component Heat Treater - Exco Three coupons, each 2x3 in (50x75 mm), from the same lot of aluminum us

The coupons shall be processed through the complete T61 heat treat cycle per paragraph 3.5 along with the production parts. The three test coupons shall be cyc

The coupons are to be room temperature aged, then placed in the artificial aging ovens with one coupon at each of the following established locations: (1) lowest temperature area (2) highest tempera
17、ture area (3) typical or mean temperature area. The three coupons are to be Exco tested (ASTM G 34) and statistical confidence established daily that the requirements of Table I are being maintained. 3.7 MANUFACTURING All forming, fabrication and welding of parts must be completed in the “O“ temper
18、prior to heat treating parts to the “T61“ temper. 3.8 MICROSTRUCTURE The microstructure after proper heat treatment to the T61 temper shall be predominantly unrecrystallized. No continuous network of recrystallized grains is permitted through the thickness of the sheet. This does not apply to heat a
19、ffected weld zones. 5. GENERAL INFORMATION The information given below is provided for clarification and assistance in meeting the requirements of this specification. 5.1 WELDABILITY The following processes can be used to weld the material approved to this specification: GMAW (MIG), GTAW (TIG) and c
20、overed electrode stick welding. A decrease in both mechanical properties and corrosion resistance may occur in weld heat affected zones because of recrystallization. Note: The Welding Development Department of the Manufacturing Processes Laboratory should be consulted for appropriate welding schedules.
