2、 ENAMEL, ELASTOMERIC, EXTERIOR ESB-M2J121-B NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE The material defined by this specification is a baking elastomeric enamel suitable for use as an exterior finish for elastomers. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for paint used as an exterior
3、finish for elastomeric substrates, such as bumpers, ornaments or other exterior parts. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.2 COMPOSITIO
4、N 3.2.1 UV Absorber Ford Motor Company may require that specific colors be supplied with a UV absorber or the combination of UV absorber, hindered amine and/or free radical scavenger in a concentration necessary to prevent film deterioration. 3.2.2 Volatile The proportion of solvents in the reduced
5、enamel shall be so selected that they provide a resistance suitable for high voltage electrostatic application. These solvents should also provide satisfactory leveling and freedom from sagging and popping after baking. The volatile portion shall also contain sufficient active solvents to give satis
6、factory adhesion when the enamel is re-coated over a previously baked coating of itself. 3.2.3 Specific Composition When it is necessary to obtain specific data regarding enamel formulation, it is understood that suppliers will furnish such data on request. 3.2.4 Toxicity The enamels shall have no o
7、bnoxious or objectionable odor and shall be in compliance with Ford Industrial Hygiene and Toxicology standards. 8、ue by color shall be established at I.S.I.R. Tolerance on subsequent batches shall be +/- 6 s #2 Ford Cup or +/- 3 s #4 Ford Cup. 3.3.2 Solids, min 27% (FLTM BI 102-01) The solids content is to be run on unreduced paint if its viscosity is lower than 26 s #4 Ford Cup at 26 +/- 1 C. If the paints vis
9、cosity is higher, adjust the paint viscosity to 26 s #4 Ford Cup at 26 +/- 1 C with a solvent blend agreed to by the manufacturer and user. 3.3.3 Stability (FLTM BI 102-03) The material shall not liver or jell upon standing and must be free from settling which is not dispersed by normal agitation. T
10、he viscosity of the material shall not increase more than 10 s. 3.4 PREPARATION OF TEST PANELS Prepare according to the following procedure: 3.4.1 Panels Unless otherwise specified, use 6 mm thick elastomeric panels of any convenient size, representative of production material. A smooth surface with
11、 no pits or blow holes is required. Solvent wipe panels clean before applying primer. 3.4.2 Primer Apply 25 +/- 5 m of the primer specified for the substrate and bake per specification requirements. 3.4.3 Color Coat Reduce enamel to spray viscosity using the solvent recommended by the supplier. Appl
12、y sufficient elastomeric enamel to obtain 38 m minimum dry film thickness. Bake the test panels approximately 30 min at 127 - 132 C to achieve a surface temperature above 116 C for 20 - 25 min and a surface temperature exceeding 121 C for 15 - 20 min. 13、Copyright 2012, Ford Global Technologies, LLC Page 3 of 6 3.5 APPEARANCE 3.5.1 Color (FLTM BI 109-01) Color and texture shall match the Ford Motor Company master panel after all the baking cycles described in para 3.4 and 3.7.9. 3.5.2 Gloss (FLTM BI 110-01, 60 meter) The gloss shall be specified by
14、means of a letter suffix to the color number assigned by Styling, as follows: A 92 min F 35 +/- 3 B 80 +/- 4 G 20 +/- 3 C 70 +/- 4 H 10 +/- 3 D 62 +/- 3 J 6 max E 50 +/- 3 3.5.3 General The enamel shall bake out to a presentable, serviceable film showing no craters, pinholes, seediness or abnormal r
15、oughness. It shall have good resistance to ordinary cleaning and polishing procedures. 3.6 FILM PROPERTIES 3.6.1 Film Hardness Shall be sufficiently hard at time of packing to withstand normal handling. 3.6.2 Adhesion (FLTM BI 106-01) No flaking or chipping. 3.6.3 Film Thickness, min 38 m (FLTM BI 1
16、17-01) Test Method: Place a metal coupon adjacent to the surface and process concurrently with the panel or part being painted. 3.6.4 Flexibility No cracking when bent over a 25 mm mandrel at 23 +/- 2 C. 17、ge 4 of 6 3.6.5 Hiding (FLTM BI 001-04) Complete visual hiding over red and gray checkerboard at 38 m dry film thickness. 3.6.6 Bleeding No greater bleeding through the color coat than the approved master panel on file in the Body Materials Laboratory. 3.6.7 Elongation, min 60% Test Method: Prepare
18、panels per para 3.4, using ESB-M2D263-A3 RIM urethane and ESB-M6J123-C primer. . Cut 3 samples per ASTM D 412 referenced Die C specifications. The neck of all test specimens should be free of all imperfections such as dirt, blisters, etc. Notches in the edge of the paint film may be removed with lig
19、ht sanding. . Elongate test sample at 50 mm per min and at 23 +/- 2 C until the first crack occurs in the paint film. . Measure the % elongation on each of the 3 test specimens. Use the average of 3 values as the reported % elongation. 3.7 RESISTANCE PROPERTIES 3.7.1 Water Resistance, min 240 h (FLT
20、M BI 104-01) Test Method: Immerse the panels for 240 h in distilled or deionized water maintained at 32 +/- 1 C. Remove parts from the water and immediately scribe an X through the enamel to the substrate. Dry the scribed area with a paper towel, cloth or air pressure and immediately apply, with fir
21、m thumb pressure, a min of 13 cm2 of ESF-M3G48 tape*. Remove the tape by pulling one end at 90 angle at a moderate speed. The following conditions shall be the basis for rejection: . Removal of paint beyond 1.6 mm from a scribe line. . Any evidence of blistering or dulling of the paint at either the
22、 scribe or any other area of the panel. * 3M 798 filament tape may be substituted for the ESF-M3G48 tape. 23、a min degree of fading, chalking or dulling. No cracking when bent over a 50 mm mandrel on 6 mm thick elastomeric substrate. No increase of brittleness or loss of adhesion is permitted and panels shall be completely free from evidence of cracking, checking, blistering or peeling when exposed as foll
24、ows: . Florida Exposure (Miami Area): 12 Months at 5 facing South . Accelerated Weathering: 1000 h (FLTM BO 101-01) Atlas “XW“ Carbon Arc Weatherometer for initial paint qualification on typical approved production substrate. 3.7.3 Thermal Shock Resistance (FLTM BI 107-05) The enamel shall exhibit n
25、o blistering or loss of adhesion when subjected to the following cycle. . 4 h water immersion. . 4 h minimum exposure at -29 C. . Direct steam blast on scribed X at 45 angle 50 mm 75 mm from panel for 15 s minimum. 3.7.4 Resistance to Water and Soap Spotting (FLTM BI 113-01, except use of colorimete
26、r is omitted) The enamel shall exhibit no more dulling or color change than the approved master sample on file in the Body Materials Laboratory. 3.7.5 Resistance to Acid Spotting (FLTM BI 113-02, except use of colorimeter is omitted) The enamel shall exhibit no more dulling or color change than the
27、approved master sample on file in the Body Materials Laboratory. 3.7.6 Gasoline Resistance The enamel shall exhibit no softening, dulling, color transfer, color change, blistering, or show any evidence of loss of adhesion. Test Method: Place the painted panel in a 600 mL beaker half full of M-14J148
28、 Petroleum Naphtha - Aliphatic type, for 1 h at 21 C min. Wipe the panel with a soft cloth and examine the cloth for evidence of color transfer and the paint film for evidence of degradation. 29、7.7 Oil Resistance The enamel shall exhibit no softening, dulling, color transfer, color change, blistering, or show any evidence of loss of adhesion. Test Method: Place the painted panel in Rotunda Motor Oil (SAE 10W30). After 1 h at 21 C min, remove the panel and wipe the painted surface with a so
30、ft cloth and examine the cloth for evidence of color transfer and the paint film for evidence of degradation. 3.7.8 Resistance to Scuffing (FLTM BN 108-04, 5000 cycles using scuff head “A“ under a 2 lb (0.91 kg) load) No cracks in the enamel transverse to the direction of motion, and no removal of t
31、he enamel is permitted. Note: Slight circular scratches in the direction of motion are not considered evidence of failure. 3.7.9 Heat Resistance There shall be no evidence of cracking, checking, or color change after exposure in a mechanical convection oven for 30 min at 121 +/- 3 C. 3.7.10 Chip Res
32、istance There shall be no chipping when a 6 mm thick specimen is subjected to 10 cycles as described in SAE J400 (Test for chip resistance of surface coatings). Specimen must be supported on the back with a 0.9 mm min thick steel panel. 4. GENERAL INFORMATION The information given below is provided
33、for clarification and assistance in meeting the requirements of this specification. 4.1 FLASH POINT Below 27 C 4.2 FLAMMABILITY This material represents a potential fire hazard. The Manufacturing Engineering Department shall notify both the Plant Security and the Safety Units of its presence in the Plant to assure that proper fire precautions are provided. The location in which it is used or stored shall be included in the notification.
