、 ENAMEL, ELASTOMERIC, EXTERIOR ESB-M2J121-B NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE The material defined by this specification is a baking elastomeric enamel suitable for use as an exterior finish for elastomers. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for paint used as an exterior

、finish for elastomeric substrates, such as bumpers, ornaments or other exterior parts. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.2 COMPOSITIO

、N 3.2.1 UV Absorber Ford Motor Company may require that specific colors be supplied with a UV absorber or the combination of UV absorber, hindered amine and/or free radical scavenger in a concentration necessary to prevent film deterioration. 3.2.2 Volatile The proportion of solvents in the reduced

、enamel shall be so selected that they provide a resistance suitable for high voltage electrostatic application. These solvents should also provide satisfactory leveling and freedom from sagging and popping after baking. The volatile portion shall also contain sufficient active solvents to give satis

、factory adhesion when the enamel is re-coated over a previously baked coating of itself. 3.2.3 Specific Composition When it is necessary to obtain specific data regarding enamel formulation, it is understood that suppliers will furnish such data on request. 3.2.4 Toxicity The enamels shall have no o

、bnoxious or objectionable odor and shall be in compliance with Ford Industrial Hygiene and Toxicology standards. Tolerance on subsequent batches shall be +/- 6 s #2 Ford Cup or +/- 3 s #4 Ford Cup. 3.3.2 Solids, min 27% (FLTM BI 102-01) The solids content is to be run on unreduced paint if its viscosity is lower than 26 s #4 Ford Cup at 26 +/- 1 C. If the paints vis

、cosity is higher, adjust the paint viscosity to 26 s #4 Ford Cup at 26 +/- 1 C with a solvent blend agreed to by the manufacturer and user. 3.3.3 Stability (FLTM BI 102-03) The material shall not liver or jell upon standing and must be free from settling which is not dispersed by normal agitation. T

、he viscosity of the material shall not increase more than 10 s. 3.4 PREPARATION OF TEST PANELS Prepare according to the following procedure: 3.4.1 Panels Unless otherwise specified, use 6 mm thick elastomeric panels of any convenient size, representative of production material. A smooth surface with

、 no pits or blow holes is required. Solvent wipe panels clean before applying primer. 3.4.2 Primer Apply 25 +/- 5 m of the primer specified for the substrate and bake per specification requirements. 3.4.3 Color Coat Reduce enamel to spray viscosity using the solvent recommended by the supplier. Appl

、panels per para 3.4, using ESB-M2D263-A3 RIM urethane and ESB-M6J123-C primer. . Cut 3 samples per ASTM D 412 referenced Die C specifications. The neck of all test specimens should be free of all imperfections such as dirt, blisters, etc. Notches in the edge of the paint film may be removed with lig

、ht sanding. . Elongate test sample at 50 mm per min and at 23 +/- 2 C until the first crack occurs in the paint film. . Measure the % elongation on each of the 3 test specimens. Use the average of 3 values as the reported % elongation. 3.7 RESISTANCE PROPERTIES 3.7.1 Water Resistance, min 240 h (FLT

、M BI 104-01) Test Method: Immerse the panels for 240 h in distilled or deionized water maintained at 32 +/- 1 C. Remove parts from the water and immediately scribe an X through the enamel to the substrate. Dry the scribed area with a paper towel, cloth or air pressure and immediately apply, with fir

Removal of paint beyond 1.6 mm from a scribe line. . Any evidence of blistering or dulling of the paint at either the

、 scribe or any other area of the panel. * 3M 798 filament tape may be substituted for the ESF-M3G48 tape.
