SCOPE The material defined by these specifications is tanned top grain or split leather made from steer hides. The finish coating shall be a series of pigmented or clear resins to ensure compliance to all require

3、ments of these specifications. 2. APPLICATION These specifications were released originally for split or top grain leather for hand wrapped steering wheels, shift knobs, and shift boots. 3. REQUIREMENTS For all test methods, no individual measurement shall fall below the minimum values specified her

4、ein. In the event of an issue with a test result, testing on the finished part shall prevail. 3.1 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements for Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.2 SAMPLE SELECTION Sa

5、mples should be prepared for testing according to ASTM D 1610. 3.3 APPEARANCE The color, grain, visual aesthetics, hand and finish shall be approved by Ford Design/Mastering. Hides shall not exhibit defects or surface blemishes affecting the appearance approval of the material. 3.4 FINISHING Dyed le

6、ather with multiple finish coatings applied. The leather must be through dyed to prevent undyed fibers from showing through after sewing and the dye must be similar in color to the surface coating. No correcting or repair of any kind shall be allowed including but not limited to buffing, filling, or

7、 stuccoing. 8、 control plan. In addition to the finishers requirements, each lot shall be tested to the Wear Rubbing requirement, in the original condition and the results available to Ford Engineering upon request. 3.6 PHYSICAL PROPERTIES 3.6.1 Thickness, range 0.9 - 1.4 mm (ASTM D 1813) 3.6.2 Breaking Strength,

9、 min 800 N (ASTM D 2208) 3.6.3 Elongation at break 20 - 60% (ASTM D 2208) 3.6.4 Tear Strength (Trapezoid), min (ASTM D 5733) Any direction 100 N 3.6.5 Softness (FLTM BN 157-01, ST300 Softness Tester, 2.0 5.0 using a 25 mm diameter aperture.) 3.6.6 Shrinkage, max. 10% (FLTM BN 105-03, except heat cyc

10、le at 100 +/- 2 C, 3 cycles. Report all measurements.) 3.7 COLOR PROPERTIES General Acceptance Criteria: The material shall not exhibit any change in appearance such as color change, fading or gloss change in excess of the required AATCC rating. In addition, the material shall not exhibit staining,

11、blistering, loss of paint adhesion, flaking, chipping, checking, chalking, cracks, splits, sinks, bulges, tackiness, peeling or delamination. 3.7.1 Resistance to Fade, min (Filtered Xenon per FLTM BO 116-01, ISO 105-A02/AATCC Evaluation Procedure 1) 942 kJ/m2Rating 4 - 5 3224 kJ/m2Rating 4 In additi

14、 “X“ approximately 25 mm wide down to the base coat of sample. Apply acetate fiber tape (3M #898, 25 mm wide, or equivalent) over the “X“. Rub the tape until good contact has been achieved. Grip one end of the tape and with a quick steady pull remove the tape off the face of the sample. 3.8.2 Resist

18、on exposure. 3) Faded Sample Expose the sample to 942 kJ/m2prior to perspiration exposure. After test, the finish shall show no evidence of softening, lifting, or peeling when rubbed with a fingernail or paperclip. 3.8.5 Resistance to Chemicals, min Rating 4 (ISO 105-A02/AATCC Evaluation Procedure 1

19、) 1) Petroleum Naptha 2) SAE 10 W 30 Motor Oil 3) Isopropyl alcohol (50% v/v. IPA and deionized water) Test Method: Apply 2 to 5 ml of each chemical to separate areas of the leather. (Do not allow mixing.) Cover each spot with a watch glass to prevent evaporation. Expose for 1 h at 23 +/- 2 C. Remov

20、e watch glass and wipe with a soft white cloth. Thoroughly wash test area with soap and water and dry. 3.8.6 Sunscreen Lotion and Insect Repellent, min Rating 3 (FLTM BI 113-08, Method B, ISO 105-A02/ AATCC Evaluation Procedure 1) 1) Sample as received at 24 C and 74 C. 2) Heat Aged Sample Expose th

24、ing to the Attribute Rating System. 3.8.9 Wear Rubbing, min Rating 9 (1,500 reciprocating strokes) The surface shall not show evidence of wear and the rubbed area shall be rated very good in appearance according to the Attribute Rating System. 1) Original 2) After Environmental aging (7 days at 70 C

25、 +/- 2 C and 95% +/- 5% RH) Test Method: 1. Soak a length of 44.5 +/- 2 mm wide duck cloth in water until saturated. Use #10 cotton duck cloth, style 426-ACT. 2. Condition a 76 x 76 mm sample of material for 10 minutes in 55 C +/- 1 C water. Remove and secure onto a 25.4 mm diameter dowel. The sampl

26、e may be held in place by clamps. The material should be held taught and stationary during the test. 3. Position the cloth so it covers 180 of the sample without touching the seam. Weight the free end of the cloth with a 1.36 +/- 0.05 kg (3 lb) mass and attach the other end to the reciprocating mach

27、ine. 4. Ensure a smooth stroke with a length of 95 +/- 2 mm. One rise and fall of the weight equals one reciprocating stroke. The test shall run at 50 +/- 2 reciprocating strokes per minute. 5. Run the test for 1,500 reciprocating strokes at an ambient air temperature of 21 +/-3 C. 6. Keep the cloth

28、 saturated with room temperature water to prevent the sample from overheating and to maintain a constant coefficient of friction. 7. Record the number of cycles when wear becomes apparent. Suggest checking every 500 cycles. 8. Test a total of 3 samples using a new cloth for each sample. The duck clo
