40、he Organization had been as Secretary-General of the Organization, in accordance with Article 22 of the Convention, 1 conducted, decided by acclamation to renew the contract of Mr. Chandrika Prasad Srivastava 1 . APPROVES the renewal of Mr. Chandrika Prasad Srivastavas contract as Secretary-General
41、of the International Maritime Organization for a further period of four years; 2. EXPRESSES its warm gratitude and deep appreciation for the exceptionally effective, sincere and dedicated service rendered to the International Maritime Organization and to the world maritime community by Mr. Chandrika
42、 Prasad Srivastava during his present and previous terms of office. 3 Res. A.559( 14) RESOLUTION A.559( 14) Adopted on 14 November 1985 Agenda item 18/61 THE WORLD MARITIME UNIVERSITY THE ASSEMBLY, RECALLING resolution A.501 (XI11 by which it decided to establish the World Maritime University to mee
43、t the vital need for training of personnel in the running of safe and efficient merchant marines, the operation of efficient ports and sound maritime administrations in developing countries, RECALLING ALSO resolution A.549(13) under which it established a Working Group of the Assembly to assist in o
44、btaining the recurring contributions necessary to permit a secure future for the World Maritime University, and authorized the Secretary-General to take all appropriate and necessary steps to facilitate and assist the work of the Working Group, HAVING CONSIDERED the reports received on the establish
45、ment and progress of the World Maritime University and the conclusions of its Working Group, NOTING the remarkable success of the World Maritime University which has already produced the first group of 68 graduates and a second group which is due to graduate on 10 December 1985, NOTING ALSO that the
46、 University has been placed on a sound and solid academic and administrative basis, NOTING FURTHER WITH GREAT APPRECIATION the generous financial support being provided at present on a regular annual basis by the Government of Sweden, the Government of Norway, the United Nations Development Programm
47、e, and the Commonwealth Secretariat and, on an ad hoc basis, by other donors, in the form of fellowships and other donations, CONCERNED HOWEVER that regular and assured contributions presently account for only about half of the Universitys expenditure, and bearing in mind the desirability of develop
48、ing a plan for the sound financing of the University, BEING AWARE that the World Maritime University will do everything possible within its Charter to maintain the quality and relevance of its courses, to publicize itself and to develop additional means of raising revenue and acquisition of other ap
49、propriate facilities, 1. REQUESTS the United Nations Development Programme to enhance significantly its annual contribution to the World Maritime University during the next UNDP programming cycle, 1987-1 991; 2. financial support to the World Maritime University; REQUESTS the Government of Sweden, as host, to enhance significantly its annual 3.
