4、 corporate directive; changed chemicals, added Method C; editorial changes. 1.0 SCOPE This test method provides a procedure to evaluate the resistance of interior, exterior, and under hood/chassis components to cosmetic damage caused by various chemicals. 1.1 METHOD A: Chemicals/Method for Interior

5、Parts. 1.2 METHOD B: Chemicals/Method for Exterior Parts. 1.3 METHOD C: Chemicals/Method for under hood and chassis parts. 2.0 REFERENCE DOCUMENTS Unless otherwise specified the latest issue of all referenced standards shall apply. The following specifications and standards are referenced in this sp

6、ecification: AATCC Test Method 8 TMS-9543 CEMS B-38 CEMS B-32 CEMS B-1 ASTM D 471 AATCC Test Method 15 ASTM D 1193 2.1 Safety This specification does not address the safety of the chemicals or procedures used. It is up to the user to use good laboratory safety practices and take all appropriate safe

7、guards in using, mixing and storing these chemicals. 3.0 MATERIAL 3.1 Interior trim component or test panels taken from the part. 3.2 Exterior trim component or test panels taken from the part. 3.3 Under hood or chassis components, test panels or materials taken from the part. 4.0 CHEMICALSGenerally

8、, chemicals shall be mixed shortly before being used. Appropriate characteristics shall be measured and reports such as pH, density, viscosity, etc. for each type of chemical listed. This information shall be included on the final test report along with the date and source of the chemicals. Water us

9、ed to make solutions shall be a good laboratory grade of distilled or deionized water that meets an appropriate category of ASTM D 1193. Suppliers are required to assume all patent liability. 2008 by Navistar, Inc. 4.1 METHOD A Interior Parts 4.1.1 Ammonia based cleaner 4.1.1.1. 1-part Ammonia (commercial 27% solution) 4.1.1.2. 1-part Isopropyl Alcohol (commercial 70% solution) 4.1.1.3. 2 par

12、ts water 4.1.2 Detergent - oxidizing 4.1.2.1. 20g Sodium Borate (Na2B4O7 . 10H2O - Borax) 4.1.2.2. 13g Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3 - Baking Soda) 4.1.2.3. Dissolve in water to make 1 liter solution. 4.1.3 100% Petroleum Naptha 4.1.4 Bleach dilute commercial bleach down to 1% Sodium Hypochlorite (NaOC

13、l) in water. 4.1.5 Perspiration Reference AATCC Test Method 15 Prepare to make 1 liter of solution in water. 4.1.5.1. 10 0.01g sodium chloride (NaCl); 4.1.5.2. 1 0.01g lactic acid, USP 85%; 4.1.5.3. 1 0.01g disodium hydrogen phosphate, anhydrous (Na2HPO4); 4.1.5.4. 0.25 0.001g Lhistidine monohydroch

14、loride. 4.1.5.5. Add water to make 1 liter of solution. The pH shall be 4.3 0.2; discard and remake if this is not met. The solution may be stored for 3 days. 4.2 METHOD B Exterior Parts 4.2.1 All chemicals listed in section 4.1 for interior parts. 4.2.2 Grade 1C Diesel Fuel per CEMS B-32 (No. 1 ult

15、ra low sulfur diesel fuel) 4.2.3 10% Sodium Chloride in water 4.2.4 10% Calcium Chloride in water 4.2.5 15% Xylene and 85% Mineral Spirits. 4.2.6 Diluted windshield washer fluid per CEMS B-38 (47% methanol in water and detergent). 4.2.7 Aluminum cleaner by weight percent: 4.2.7.1. 85% water 4.2.7.2.

16、 6.0% Phosphoric Acid (85% concentration) 4.2.7.3. 8.0% Citric Acid (50%) 4.2.7.4. 1.0% Nitric Acid (70%) 4.2.8 Non-phosphorous Aluminum Cleaner by weight percent: 4.2.8.1. 80% water 4.2.8.2. 12% Citric Acid (50%) 4.2.8.3. 8.0% Gluconic Acid (50%) 4.2.9 Muriatic Acid 2.0 Molar hydrochloric acid (HCl

17、) 4.3 METHOD C Under Hood and Chassis Parts 4.3.1 All chemicals listed in sections 4.1 for interior parts and 4.2 for exterior parts. 4.3.2 IRM 902 oil per ASTM D471 4.3.3 Reference Fuel B per ASTM D471 4.3.4 DOT 3 brake fluid 4.3.5 50-50 Ethylene Glycol coolant and water per CEMS B-1 Type III JUNE

Suppliers are required to assume all patent liability. 2008 by Navistar, Inc. 5.0 PROCEDURE 5.1 Apply a sufficient amount of the chemical to be tested (approximately 15-30 mm dia

20、meter area) to separate areas of the test panel or test part. 5.2 Allow the cleaning solution/product to set for 5 minutes before proceeding. 5.3 Perform Crocking Test as per AATCC Test Method 8, Section 9.1. 5.4 Remove test chemical from subject material, lightly clean if necessary, and examine. 6.

21、0 EVALUATION6.1 Report results separately for each cleaning solution tested. 6.2 Evaluate the tested areas for color changes as per AATCC Test Method 8; Section 10. 6.3 Evaluate the base material for changes or staining. 7.0 REPORT 7.1 Test results should be organized in accordance with the guidelin

22、es described in AATCC Test Method 8, Section 11. 7.2 Report results in accordance with procedure outlined in TMS-9543. 8.0 RECOMMENDED GUIDELINES 8.1 The referring specification shall detail the pass-fail criteria. This is intended as a guideline for that specification. 8.2 Certain chemicals may be

23、considered inappropriate for some base materials. For instance TMS-7121 does not test Petroleum Naptha (4.1.3) on leather hides. Other combinations are similarly unsuitable. Please consult Materials Engineering for further guidance. 8.3 Minimum AATCC rating of 4 on the AATCC Color Transference Chart

24、. Materials with a rating of 3 may be further reviewed with engineering. 8.4 The base material shall not show any signs of color change, tackiness or other deleterious effects. Pictures and/or samples shall be provided with the engineering report and any questionable or marginal results shall be reviewed with engineering prior to completing the report.
