According to this formulation, highly creative activity transcends the limits of an existing form and establishes a new principle of organization. Differences between highly creative art and highly creative science arise in part from differences in their goals. For the sciences, a new theory is the goal and end result of the creative a

Such phenomena as a brilliant diamond or a nesting bird are relegated to the role of data, serving as the means for formulating or testing a new theory. The goal

5、of highly creative art is very different: the phenomenon itself becomes the direct product of the creative act. Shakespeares Hamlet is not a tract about the behavior of indecisive princes or the uses of political power, nor is Picassos painting Guernica primarily a propositional statement about the

6、Spanish Civil War or the evils of fascism. What highly creative artistic activity produces is not a new generalization that transcends established limits, but rather an aesthetic particular. Aesthetic particulars produced by the highly creative artist extend or exploit, in an innovative way, the lim

7、its of an existing form, rather than transcend that form.This is not to deny that a highly creative artist sometimes establishes a new principle of organization in the history of an artistic field: the composer Monteverdi, who created music of the highest aesthetic value, comes to mind. More general

8、ly, however, whether or not a composition establishes a new principle in the history of music has little bearing on its aesthetic worth. Because they embody a new principle of organization, some musical works, such as the operas of the Florentine Camerata, are of signal historical importance, but fe

9、w listeners or musicologists would include these among the great works of music. On the other hand, Mozarts The Marriage of Figaro is surely among the masterpieces of music even though its modest innovations are confined to extending existing means. It has been said of Beethoven that he toppled the

10、rules and freed music from the stifling confines of convention. But a close study of his compositions reveals that Beethoven overturned no fundamental rules. Rather, he was an incomparable strategist who exploited limitsthe rules, forms, and conventions that he inherited from predecessors such as Ha

We begin this unit with a look at success: what it means and how it is measured.Defining Success through Personal Evaluation“Most people spend less time planning their new busi

23、ness than they do their family vacation” (Canadian Small Business,1997). Yet, selecting the right business idea and planning for its success are crucial steps in new venture planning. You will learn more about opportunity identification, or how to find and evaluate business ideas. For now, lets focu

24、s on success.Success is how you define it. What success means to you will not likely be what success means to someone else. Success is very personal and subjective. We usually measure success in one of three ways:Success can be measured in dollars, usually earnings.Success can be measured by the val

25、ue of our possessions, including our home.Success can be measured through our personal values.Whether you define success by money, possessions, personal values or a combination of the three is up to you. How we define success significantly influences our selection of a business to start. Our view of

If we think a business opportunity has the potential to raise us to our desired level of success, we give it further consideration. If not, we usually discard the idea. For example, if the paper deliverer defined success as earnin

27、g $75.00 of spending money per month and he or she was earning $200.00 per month, then they would consider their venture highly successful.Visioning and Goal Setting for Business SuccessPlanning for business success begins with an understanding of ourselves, who we are and where we want to go in our

28、 professional lives. Enrolling in college is one step toward fulfilling our vision of the future. Two processes which are helpful to would-be entrepreneurs are visioning and goal-setting.Success begins with a vision of who we are, what drives us and what we want. This vision of ourselves is the foun

29、dation that will give us guidance and direction in the conduct of our lives and businesses. Visioning involves development of a clear mental picture of what we would like to become in the next five to ten years.Goal-setting involves developing a list of things you would like to achieve in your perso

30、nal or professional livesyour goals. Goal-setting is the action plan for achieving your vision of life.
