1、 A-A-59298B 11 March 2013 SUPERSEDING A-A-59298A 11 September 2000 COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION TAPE, PRESSURE-SENSITIVE ADHESIVE The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description by all federal agencies. 1. SCOPE. This commercial item description (CID) co

2、vers the requirements for one type of pressure-sensitive tape to use as a separator to prevent galvanic attack between dissimilar metals. 2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS 2.1 Material. The adhesive material shall be pressure sensitive, water insoluble, homogenous, and coated in a smooth and evenly distrib

3、uted layer on one side of the backing. The adhesive shall require no solvent, heat, or any other preparation prior to application. 2.2 Breaking strength. The tape shall have a breaking strength of 15 pounds per inch width minimum when tested in accordance with FED-STD-191, Method No. 5102. 2.3 Adhes

4、ion. Adhesion of the tape to magnesium shall be 20 ounces per inch width minimum. Adhesion after exposure to petroleum base oils and di-ester fluids shall be 14 ounces per inch width minimum with 0.125-inch edge lifting permitted. 2.4 Finished tape. The tape shall be smoothly and uniformly wound in

5、rolls, with the adhesive side in, on cores having an inside diameter of 3.000, +0.0625, -0.0000-inch. The core shall be rigid enough to prevent distortion of the roll under normal handling. The tape shall be one continuous strip and contain no bare spots or lumps. FSC 7510 .Beneficial comments, reco

8、2 2.4.1 Width, length, and thickness. Unless otherwise specified (see 5.2), the width of the tape shall be one inch. The length of the tape in the rolls shall be a minimum of 72 yards. Thickness of the tape shall be 0.004-inch maximum. 3. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS. The offeror/contractor is encouraged

9、 to use recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). 4. PRODUCT CONFORMANCE 4.1 Product conformance. The tape provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this CID, conform to the manufacturers own drawi

10、ngs, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and be the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance. 4.2 Magnesium test panel. The panel shall be at least two inches wide by four inches long a

11、nd 0.0625-inch thick conforming to AZ31B-H24 with chrome pickle treatment (SAE AMS-M-3171, Type I). The panel shall be cleaned with mineral spirits conforming to MIL-PRF-680, Type I. 4.3 Tape application. A tape specimen one by eight inches shall be applied to the test panel described in 4.2 so that

12、 a one- by four-inch area is covered. The tape shall be applied by rolling the tape applicator back and forth once in the lengthwise direction. 4.4 Adhesion to magnesium. The free end of the tape applied in accordance with 4.3 shall be doubled back 180 degrees, and one inch of the applied tape shall

13、 be peeled back at the folded end to allow panel attachment to a tensile test machine. The free end of the tape shall be pulled by the tensile machine at a rate of 12 inches per minute, and the adhesion value recorded after the first inch and then again after the next inch is peeled back. 4.4.1 Adhe

14、sion after immersion. Two more tape samples shall be applied in accordance with 4.3. Using two separate containers, fill one with SAE AMS3021 or MIL-PRF-7808 lubricating oil and the other with a petroleum based oil conforming to ASTM D471, IRM 903 such that the test panels will be completely submerg

15、ed. Place the two containers in an oven maintained at 155 2 F for four hours. After this immersion period, the panels shall be removed and excess fluid blotted. The tape specimens shall then be subjected to the adhesion test of 4.4. 4.5 Market acceptability. The following market acceptability criter

16、ia are necessary to document the quality of the product to be provided under this CID. 4.5.1 Manufacturers experience. The company producing the pressure sensitive tape must have been manufacturing a product meeting the requirements of this CID for at least six months. 4.5.2 Conformance inspection.
