25、ational lubricants. !4hereVCIsare to be applied to assemblies containing, operational lubricants, thecontractor shall furnish proof to the contracting activity that suchlubricants in conjunction with the specific VCI have satisfactorilypassed the compatibility test of 4.3.1. Prior to application of

26、VCI tothe assemblies, the excess oil shall be drained off (not applicable tobonded films) (see 6.4) .3.6 Application of VCI material.3.6.1 General.VCI-treated packaging material (SpecificationMIL-P-3420, MIL-B-22; ;9 MIL-B-22020, and MIL-B-40028) . Unless otherwisespecified, the VCI-treated material

27、s shall be applied so as to completelyenclose the item, or the part shall be wrapped with strips of the materialwithout any other material between the part and the wrapping. Completewrapping, where feasible, is preferred. The VCI-treated side of thepackaging mat2rials shall face the part being wrapp

28、ed, and shall beapplied so that any air entering the package shall pass through or overthe surface of the VCI before reaching cbe part. Surfaces to be protectedshall be not more than 12 inches from the VCI-treated materials. Allenclosures shall be sealed since the degree of protection afforded byche

29、 VCI vapors is directly proportional to the gas tightness of theenclosure, When VCI material is used as an overwrap, the amount of airwithin the wrap shall be kept to a minimum.b. vCI crystals (Specification MIL-I-2211O) . ThisVCI shall be spayed, atomized or dusted over the entire surface of :heite

30、m. Whenever feasible, che VCI shall also be sprayed, dusted oratomized into the enclosing container after which the container shallimmediately be sealed.3.6.2 Material in tiers or layers. When items are packedin tiers or layers , VCI shall be placed between the Ciers. Where theVCI-treated materials

31、are used in a carton comtaintng separators, allfaces of the separators shall be lined with the VCI-treated material inaddition to lining the inside of the carton.3.6.3 Cushioning and dunnage, Projections or sharp cornersand edges shall be adequately c,:shioned with moldable barrier materialsto preve

32、nt damage to either the part or the package. W%ere dunnage isrequired next to or around the item, a facing of VCI-treated barriermaterial shall be placed between the item and dunnage. In those unavoidablecases where the dunnage or other non-metallic materials used in thepackage may be hydroscopic or

33、 may give off corrosive vapors, the item andthe VCI shall be isolated from this by use of aluminum foil or othersuitable barrier materials. When used as a complete over-wrap, theminf.mum amount of the treated area of VCI-treated packaging materialsshall be at least equal to 3/8

35、of surface area of the enclosing container.Otherwise, the amount of the VCI-treated material shall be at leastequal co the surface area of the enclosing container.b. VCI crystals (Specification MIL-I-2211O) .tlmount of VCI shall be 1 gram of VCI per.cubic foot of volume of theenclosing container.3.6

36、.5 Closed and blind-end components. Enclosed portionsof assemblies, such as gear boxes, shall have VCI applied inside cheenclosed space, and the enclosed volume shall be sealed. Open-end voidswhere the opening is small with relation co the void, shall be treatedas specified above for enclosed portio

37、ns of an assembly. Open-end voidsof a depth greater than 6 inches shall have VCI inserted in the void.The minimum quantity of VCI required for protection of the enclosedspaces of closed and blind-end components shall be determined as specifiedin 3.6.4. Whenever an enclosed assembly is preserved with

38、 a VCI andsealed, an appropriate warning in the form of a label or a tag shall beapplied rO aSSUre chat che assembly will nOt be used prior co the applicationof the proper lubricant after removal of the VC1, if necessary.3.6.6 Greaseproof barrier. Parts covered with operationaloil films shall have a

39、 greaseproof barrier bet,deen the VCI and the outerpackaging materials to prevent the latter from becoming oil soaked.Whenever possible, VCI-treated material conforming to Styles C and G ofSpecification MIL-P-3420, shall be used for this purpose since thebarrier is an integral part of these VCI-trea

40、ted materials.3.7 Unit protection. Proper performance and preservativequalities of VCI are dependent upon the following:a. Its use in a confined area where the circulationof air is limited.* b. The application of the VCI being in accordancewith the requirements of 3.6.1.The degree of protection requ

41、ired for an item, when VC1 is used, shallbe governed by the nature (critical and noncritical) and composition ofthe item.* 3.8 Marking. Unit and intermediate packages and shippingcontainers shall be marked in accordance with MIL-STD-129.3.9 Depreservacion. Crystalline or powdery depositsobserved on

QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS4.1 Responsibili

43、ty for inspection. Unless otherwisespecified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsiblef& the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein.Except as otherwise specified in che contract or purchase order, thecontractor may use his own or any ocher facilities su

44、itable for theperformance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unlessdisapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right toperform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where suchinspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conformto presc

45、ribed requirements.* 4.2 Classification of inspections. The inspectionrequirements specified herein are classified as follows:a. First article inspection (see 4.2.1).b. Quality conformance inspection (see 4.2.2).4.2.1 First article inspection. The first article inspectionshall consist of examination

46、 and tests for all of the requirements ofthis specification. The inspection shall be performed by the firstarticle inspection laboratory designated by the contracting officer (see6.2). When specified, first article inspection shall be conducted bythe contractor in the presence of a Government repres

47、entative designatedby the contracting officer. Approval of the first article inspectionsample does not preclude the requirements for performing the qualityconformance inspection. First article inspection may be waived when theacquiring activity or contract administration activity has data or otherev

48、idence to indicate that prior successful first article Impection hasbeen conducted.4.2.1.1 First article samples. When specified by the contractingofficer (see 6.2) the contractor shall submit a first article samule ofsufficient material to conduct all tests required by this specification.The sample

49、 shall be produced by the contractor or furnished by a supplierand manufactured using the sane production processes, procedures andequipment used in fulfilling the contract. Prior to submission thecontractor shall inspect the sample to assure that it conforms to therequirenencs of the contract and shall submit a record of this inspection.A first article sample shall be submitted, as directed by the contractingofficer, whenever a c
