2、und Suppression Water System was installed on the launch pads to protect the orbiter and its payloads from damage by acoustical energy and rocket exhaust reflected from the flame trench and Mobile Launcher Platform during launch. Filling the Sound Suppression Water Systems tank and riser, and prefil
3、ling its lines, can normally be done in less than 2 hours (not including time for relocation of technicians). However, if the piping were completely drained (e.g., for a valve inspection or inspection of the internal piping), filling the lines, tank, and riser would take about 8 hours. A launch can
4、be delayed if the schedule does not account for this extra time for filling. Description of Driving Event: During processing for a Shuttle launch in 2007, the Sound Suppression water piping was not prefilled before the launch countdown began. (The piping had been drained for an inspection.) Filling
5、the tank and riser took approximately 8 hours. This led to a delay in the launch schedule, because the technicians required extra time to do the filling. Lesson(s) Learned: To avoid launch delays, the water lines in the Sound Suppression Water System should be prefilled before the start of the count
