2、tenance. This did not occur for the elevators in the new Operations Support Building (OSB) II building at the Kennedy Space Center. Because spares were not available, repairs were delayed when an elevator malfunctioned. Description of Driving Event: When the new OSB II building was completed and the
3、 new elevators were handed over for contract maintenance, it was found that a bill of material was not available and that spare parts had not been purchased and stocked. Additional manpower was required to create a “spares” list. A shutdown affecting one elevator occurred. The motor drive unit and r
4、ope-gripper failed and both needed to be replaced. Though some spare parts were not available, luckily the long-lead item was, and the elevator was returned to service in about 1 week. If the needed part had not been available, the elevator would have been out of service for 6 weeks. Lesson(s) Learn
5、ed: Logistics personnel should be involved with any new elevator installation or elevator refurbishment so they can create a spare parts inventory and ensure spares are procured and stocked.
