5、2 Remover, Paint Epoxy and Polyurethane Paint System Non-Chlorinated Solvent RATIONALE AMS1377 has been reaffirmed to comply with the SAE five-year review policy. 1. SCOPE:1.1 Form: This specification covers a non-phenolic, non-chromated, thickened paint remover in the form of a solvent-base liquid.

6、1.2 Application: This cleaner has been used typically for removing epoxy primer with epoxy polyamide or linear polyurethane paint topcoat from aluminum alloys and magnesium alloys, but usage is not limited to such applications.1.3 Safety - Hazardous Materials: While the materials, methods, applicati

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS: 3.1 Material: Shall be a thixotropic paint remover consisting of organic solvents, evaporation retarders, wetting agents, and other ingredients required to provide a product meeting the requirements of 3.2.3.2 Properties: Paint remover shall con

21、form to the following requirements; tests shall be performed on the as-supplied product in accordance with specified test methods; all tests shall be conducted at 24 C 3 (75 F 5) and at a relative humidity of 50% 5, unless otherwise specified herein:3.2.1 Consistency: Paint remover shall flow to a p

22、oint between 18 and 23 centimeters in 5 minutes, determined in accordance with ASTM F 1080. The paint remover shall be of such consistency that a smooth, even coating can be applied by brushing, flowing, or spraying onto, and will adhere to, the vertical surface of test panels and painted surfaces o

23、f aircraft for sufficient time for the paint remover to be effective.3.2.2 Flash Point: Paint remover shall be tested in accordance with ASTM D 93 to determine, record, and report the flash point.3.2.3 Corrosion of Metal Surfaces: 3.2.3.1 Sandwich Corrosion: Specimens of AMS 4045 and AMS 4049 alumin

24、um alloys, after testing in accordance with ASTM F 1110, shall not show a rating worse than 1 or worse than control panels tested using ASTM D 1193, Type IV, water.SAE AMS1377 Page 4 of 11 3.2.3.2 Total Immersion Corrosion: The product shall neither show evidence of pitting of the panels nor cause a

25、 weight change of any test panel greater than shown in Table 1, determined in accordance with ASTM F 483:3.2.3.3 Low Embrittling Cadmium Plate: Panels, coated with low-embrittling cadmium plate, shall not show a weight change greater than 0.3 mg/cm2per 24 hours, determined in accordance with ASTM F

26、1111.3.2.4 Hydrogen Embrittlement: Paint remover shall be non-embrittling, determined in accordance with ASTM F 519, Type 1a, 1c, or 2a.3.2.5 Storage Stability: 3.2.5.1 Short Term: Paint remover shall not cake, clot, gel, or separate after being stored at room temperature, undisturbed, for 6 days in

27、 a darkened area. The product, tested for stability in accordance with 4.5.1, shall neither polymerize nor show significant changes in physical appearance nor exhibit evidence of adversely affecting steel surfaces. After being tested as in 4.5.1, the paint remover shall completely lift the finish fr

28、om test panels, prepared and tested in accordance with 4.5.2.1, as well as, or better than, a sample of the original, unexposed paint remover.3.2.5.2 Extended Term: Paint remover shall be stored in accordance with ASTM F 1105.3.2.6 Paint Stripping Efficiency: Paint remover, tested in accordance with

31、emover shall be removed by water rinsing, determined in accordance with 4.5.3. If residues or noticeable water breaks occur, they shall not adversely affect the drying or adhesion of an applied paint system.3.2.8 Refinishing Properties of Stripped Surfaces: Following stripping and wiping clean, usin

32、g cloths saturated with methyl ethyl ketone or other suitable solvent, the paint remover shall leave a surface suitable for refinishing, including re-surface treatment, determined in accordance with 4.5.4.3.2.9 Volatility: Shall be no greater than the volatility of distilled water, determined in acc

33、ordance with 4.5.5.3.2.10 Performance: The paint remover, used in accordance with manufacturers recommendations, shall show satisfactory paint stripping performance, determined on painted panels as in 4.5.2.1 cured for 30 days at 49C 3 (120F 5). This performance test shall be determined after the pa

34、int remover has met all other technical requirements of this specification.3.3 Quality: Paint remover, as received by purchaser, shall be homogeneous, uniform in consistency, suitable for spray, brush or flow application, and free from skins and lumps and from foreign materials detrimental to usage

35、of the paint remover.4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS: 4.1 Responsibility for Inspection: The vendor of paint remover shall supply all samples for vendors tests and shall be responsible for performing all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing d

36、eemed necessary to ensure that the paint remover conforms to the requirements of this specification.4.2 Classification of Tests: 4.2.1 Acceptance Tests: Tests for consistency (3.2.1), flash point (3.2.2), low-embrittling cadmium plate (3.2.3.3), paint stripping efficiency (3.2.6), rinsability (3.2.7

37、), volatility (3.2.9), and quality (3.3) are acceptance tests and shall be performed on each lot.4.2.2 Periodic Tests: Tests for sandwich corrosion (3.2.3.1), total immersion corrosion of all alloys (3.2.3.2), hydrogen embrittlement (3.2.4), short-term stability (3.2.5.1), refinishing properties of

38、stripped surfaces (3.2.8), and performance (3.2.10) are periodic tests and shall be performed at a frequency selected by the vendor unless frequency of testing is specified by purchaser.4.2.3 Preproduction Tests: Tests for all technical requirements are preproduction tests and shall be performed pri

39、or to or on the initial shipment of the paint remover to a purchaser, when a change in ingredients and/or processing requires reapproval as in 4.4.2, and when purchaser deems confirmatory testing to be required.SAE AMS1377 Page 6 of 11 4.2.3.1 For direct U.S. Military procurement, substantiating tes

40、t data and, when requested, preproduction test material shall be submitted to the cognizant agency as directed by the procuring activity, contracting officer, or request for procurement.4.3 Sampling and Testing: Shall be in accordance with the following; a lot shall be all paint remover manufactured

41、 at the same time from the same batches of raw materials and presented for vendors inspection at one time. If paint remover cannot be identified by batch or tank, a lot shall consist of not more than 5,000 gallons (18,927 L) offered for delivery at one time. Paint remover may be packaged in smaller

42、quantities and delivered under the basic lot approval provided lot identification is maintained.4.3.1 For Acceptance Tests: 4.3.1.1 Bulk Quantity: Samples shall be selected in accordance with FED-STD-141 except that the sample shall consist of not less than one gallon (3.8 L) of paint remover from e

43、ach lot.4.3.1.2 Filled Containers: A random sample of filled containers shall be selected from each lot in accordance with MIL-STD-105 at Inspection Level I to verify conformance to requirements regarding fill, closure, marking, and other requirements not involving tests.4.3.2 For Periodic Tests and

44、 Preproduction Tests: As agreed upon by purchaser and vendor.4.4 Approval: 4.4.1 Paint remover shall be approved by purchaser before paint remover for production use is supplied, unless such approval be waived by purchaser. Results of tests on production paint remover shall be essentially equivalent

45、 to those on the approved sample.4.4.2 Vendor shall use ingredients, manufacturing procedures, and methods of inspection on production paint remover which are essentially the same as those used on the approved sample remover. If necessary to make any change in ingredients or in manufacturing procedu

46、res, vendor shall submit for reapproval a statement of the proposed changes in ingredients and/or processing and, when requested, sample remover. Production paint remover made by the revised procedure shall not be shipped prior to receipt of reapproval.4.5 Test Methods: Shall be as follows:4.5.1 Sho

47、rt-Term Storage Stability: 4.5.1.1 Preparation of Test Sample: A 5 ounce (150 mL) portion of well mixed paint remover shall be poured into each of two chemically clean 12-ounce (350-mL) pressure-resistant, clear, glass bottles and carefully capped. The bottles shall be approximately 9-1/2 inches (24

48、1 mm) in height, with shoulders 2-1/2 inches (63.5 mm) in outside diameter and 5 inches (127 mm) from the base.SAE AMS1377 Page 7 of 11 4.5.1.2 Procedure: 4.5.1.2.1 Cold Cycle Test: One bottle shall be stored in a darkened area for not less than 6 days. The other bottle shall be placed in a water ba

49、th maintained at 54 C 2 (129 F 4) for 60 minutes 2. The bottle in the water bath shall be carefully removed, allowed to cool at room temperature for 60 minutes 2, and visually examined. Layer formation is not acceptable and further testing shall be discontinued. If the paint remover appears homogeneous, the bottle shall be placed in a cold box maintained at -10 C 2 (14 F 4) for 60 minutes 2, removed, an
