SCOPE:1.1 Form: This specification covers a carbon soil and paint remover compound inthe form of a liquid.1.2 Application: Primarily for removal of carbonaceous soils and paint fromaircraft turbine engine parts by immersi

3、ng the parts in liquid at roomtemperature.1.3 Safety - Hazardous Materials: While the materials, methods, applications,and processes described or referenced in this specification may involve theuse of hazardous materials, this specification does not address the hazardswhich may be involved in such u

It is the sole responsibility of theuser to ensure familiarity with the safe and proper use of any hazardousmaterials and to take necessary precautionary measures to ensure the healthand safety of all personnel involved.2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS: The following publications form a part of thisspeci

5、fication to the extent specified herein. The latest issue of SAEpublications shall apply. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:3

11、.1 Composition: Shall be optional with the manufacturer but, when prepared inaccordance with manufacturers instructions, shall form a liquid product,with no solid sediment at room temperature, meeting the requirements of 3.2.and Application3.1.1 Compound containing volatile solvents shall be provide

12、d with an upperliquid seal serving to retard evaporation of solvents from the lowerworking layer. Solution make up, depth of seal if required, and solutioncontrol for the lower and seal phases shall be in accordance withmanufacturers instructions and purchasers requirements.3.2 Properties: Compound

13、shall conform to the following requirements; tests0 shall be performed in accordance with specified test methods on the productsupplied at the maximum concentration recommended by manufacturer; if a sealis specified, tests shall be performed on the lower liquid layer through theseal:3.2.1 Stock Loss

14、: Test panels of alloys or electrodeposits shall not incurstock loss exceeding 0.000025 inch (0.635 m) per surface and plasmadeposited coatings shall not incur stock loss exceeding 0.0001 inch(2.5 m) when tested in accordance with ARP1755, Category 1. Whererequired in ARP1755, stock loss figures sha

15、ll be reported. Manufacturermay indicate where remover is not recommended for particular alloys orsurface coatings.3.2.2 Corrosion: Test panels and bars used for the stock loss test of 3.2.1shall exhibit no surface attack when examined at 50X magnification undergood oblique surface lighting conditio

16、ns.3.2.3 Biodegadability: Vendor shall supply evidence that surfactants used inthe compound shall be at least 90% biodegradable, determined either inaccordance with ASTM D 2667 where relevant to surfactant type or byalternative methods appropriate to surfactant type acceptable to purchaser.-2-AMS 13

17、78A SAE AMS 1378A3.2.3.1 Evidence of surfactant biodegradability does not guarantee that thecompound may be discharged in either concentrated or diluted form intopublic waterways or sewerage systems; manufacturers shall give advice onthe means for disposal.3.2.4 Storage Stability: Compound, stored a

18、t 25C 5 (77F 9) for one year,shall show no visual evidence of deterioration and shall meet all othertechnical requirements of this specification.3.2.5 Stress-Corrosion of Titanium Alloys: The compound, when used according to0 manufacturers instructions, shall not cause stress-corrosion cracking ofti

19、tanium alloys, determined in accordance with ASTM F 945, Method A or B.3.2.6 Hydrogen Absorption: Compound shall be non-embrittling, determined inaccordance with ASTM F 519, Type la, lc, or 2a, but usingnon-electroplated test specimens.3.2.7Performance:The compound, prepared and used in accordance w

20、ithmanufacturers instructions, shall remove carbonaceous soils and paintfrom parts. Compounds which meet all other technical requirments shall betested for cleaning performance in an approved engine overhaul facilityfor not less than six months, during which time at least ten turbofan orturbojet eng

21、ines, or equivalent, shall be processed with satisfactoryresults before approval for service use is granted by the applicableengine manufacturer.3.3 Quality: The compound, as received by purchaser, shall be clear,homogeneous, and free from solid particles and separation and from foreignmaterials det

22、rimental to usage of the compound.4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS:4.1 Responsibility for Inspection: The vendor of the compound shall supply allsamples for vendors tests and shall be responsible for performing allrequired tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform anyconfirmatory t

23、esting deemed necessary to ensure that the compound conformsto the requirements of this specification.4.2 Classification of Tests: Tests for all technical requirements arepreproduction tests and shall be performed prior to or on the initialshipment of compound to a purchaser, when a change in ingred

24、ients and/orprocessing requires reapproval as in 4.4.2, and when purchaser deemsconfirmatory testing to be required.4.2.3 For direct U.S. Military procurement, substantiating test data and, whenrequested, preproduction test material shall be submitted to the cognizantagency as directed by the procur

25、ing activity, contracting officer, orrequest for procurement.-3-AMS 1378A SAE AMS 1378A4.3 Sampling and Testing: Shall be in accordance with ASTM D 1568 or other0 method specified by purchaser. A lot shall be all compound produced in asingle production run from the same batches of raw materials unde

26、r the samefixed conditions and presented for manufacturer inspection at one time, Aninspection lot shall not exceed 6,000 gallons (22,712 L).4.4 Approval:4.4.1 Compound shall be approved by purchaser before compound for production useis supplied, unless such approval be waived by purchaser. Results

27、oftests on production compound shall be essentially equivalent to those onthe approved sample compound,4.4.1.1 A new or revised compound may be conditionally approved pendingcompletion of the storage stability test of 3.2.4. Full approval willbe granted following testing for the other technical requ

28、irements aftercompletion of storage stability testing.4.4.2 Manufacturer shall use Ingredients, manufacturing procedures, and methodsof inspection on production compound which are essentially the same asthose used on the approved sample compound. If necessary to make anychange in ingredients or in m

29、anufacturing procedures, manufacturer shallsubmit for reapproval a statement of the proposed changes in ingredientsand/or processing and, when requested, sample compound. Productioncompound made by the revised procedure shall not be shipped prior toreceipt of reapproval.4.5 Reports:4.5.1 The manufac

30、turer of compound shall furnish with the initial shipment areport showing the results of tests to determine conformance to thetechnical requirements except that, for a new or revised compound, theresults of the storage stability test may be omitted. This report shallinclude the purchase order number

31、, lot number, AMS 1378A, manufacturersidentification, and quantity.4.5.2 A material safety data sheet conforming to AMS 2825, or equivalent, shall be supplied to each purchaser prior to or concurrent with the report ofpreproduction test results or, if preproduction testing be waived bypurchaser, con

32、current with the first shipment of compound for productionuse. Each request for modification of compound formulation shall beaccompanied by a revised data sheet for the proposed formulation.4.5.3 The manufacturer of compound shall furnish with each subsequent shipment areport stating that the compou

33、nd is of the same composition and has thesame properties as the approved sample compound. If results of thestorage stability test were not included In the report on the initialshipment of compound, results of that test shall be included in the reporton the first shipment following completion of that

34、 test. This reportshall include the purchase order number, lot number, AMS 1378A,manufacturers Identification, and quantity. If compound from more thanone lot is supplied in one shipment, a report shall be supplied for eachlot of compound in the shipment.-4-AMS 1378A SAE AMS 1378A4.5.4 A bulletin de

35、scribing the compound and detailed instructions for its useshall be provided by the compound manufacturer. The bulletin shall alsoinclude at least mixing instructions, material compatibility, properties,control/analysis procedures, and safety practices including precautionsfor hazardous ingredients.

36、4.6 Resampling and Retesting: If any sample used in the above tests fails to0 meet the specified requirements disposition of the compound may be based onthe results of testing three additional samples for each originalnonconforming sample. Failure of any retest sample to meet the specifiedrequiremen

37、ts shall be cause for rejection of the compound represented.Results of all tests shall be reported.5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY:5.1 Packaging and Identification:5.1.1 Compound shall be packaged in containers of a type and size agreed upon by0 purchaser and vendor. A lot of compound may be packaged in

38、 smallquantities and delivered under the basic lot approval provided lotidentification is maintained.5.1.2 Each container of compound shall be legibly marked with not less than AMS1378A, purchase order number, lot number, manufacturers identification,and quantity.5.1.3 Containers of compound shall b

39、e prepared for shipment in accordance with0 commercial practice and in compliance with applicable rules andregulations pertaining to the handling, packaging, and transportation ofthe compound to ensure carrier acceptance and safe delivery.5.1.4 For direct U.S. Military procurement, packaging shall b

40、e in accordance0 with MIL-STD-2073-1, Commercial Level, unless Level A is specified in therequest for procurement.6. ACKNOWLEDGMENT: A vendor shall mention this specification number and itsrevision letter in all quotations and when acknowledging purchase orders.7. REJECTIONS: Compound not conforming

41、 to this specification, or tomodifications authorized by purchaser, will be subject to rejection.8. NOTES:8.1 Marginal Indicia: The phi (0) symbol is used to indicate technicalchanges from the previous issue of this specification.8.2 Dimensions in inch/pound units and the Celsius temperatures are pr
