6、an the following: AMS2489A Basis metal to be plated Tensile strength or hardness of the basis metal Precoat stress relief to be performed by coating processor (time and temperature) if different from 3.1.1 Special features, geometry or processing present on parts that requires special attention by t

7、he coating processor Hydrogen embrittlement relief to be performed by coating processor (parameters or reference document) if different from 3.3.1 Quantity of pieces to be coated Location of coating2. Parts manufacturing operations such as heat treating, forming, joining, and media finishing can aff

8、ect the condition of the substrate and adversely affect the finished part. SCOPE1.1 PurposeThis

9、specification covers the requirements for an inorganic black coating applied at ambient temperature to steel to touch up black oxide coating in areas where the black oxide has been removed. This coating is intended only to visually change the surface to a black color, not to meet the requirements of

10、 any black oxide specification.1.2 ApplicationAmbient blackening of steel has been used typically for the touch-up of black oxide surface finish where it has been removed and when complete reprocessing in accordance with a black oxide specification, such as AMS2485 or MIL-DTL-13924, is not practicab

11、le.1.3 Safety - Hazardous MaterialsWhile the materials, methods, applications, and processes described or referenced in this specification may involve the use of hazardous materials, this specification does not address the hazards which may be involved in such use. It is the responsibility of the us

12、er to ensure familiarity with the safe and proper use of any hazardous materials and to take necessary precautionary measures to ensure the health and safety of all personnel involved.2. 17、 TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS3.1 Procedure3.1.1 Coating shall be applied in accordance with manufacturers instructions at ambient temperature with solution meeting the requirements of AMS2484.3.1.2 Application of the coating shall not degrade, remove, or discolor an existent black oxide coating, such as A

19、he part nor shall there be evidence of coating transference to the cloth.3.2.3 Hydrogen EmbrittlementProcessing shall not cause hydrogen embrittlement determined in accordance with ASTM F519.3.2.4 Intergranular AttackProcessing shall not cause intergranular attack determined in accordance with ASTM

20、F2111.3.2.5 ColorShall be black or dark gray or have a reddish brown cast to the black color, but shall be free of red oxide coloration. An exact match to pre-existing or surrounding black oxide coating is not required.3.3 Quality3.3.1 Coating as received by purchaser shall be continuous and visuall

21、y free from pits and other imperfections detrimental to usage of the coating. Slight staining or discoloration is permissible.4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS4.1 Responsibility for InspectionThe processor shall supply all samples for processors tests and shall be responsible for the performance of al

22、l required tests. When parts are to be tested, such parts shall be supplied by purchaser. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that processing conforms to the specified requirements.4.2 Classification of Tests4.2.1 Acceptance Tests

23、Adhesion (3.2.2), color (3.2.5), and quality (3.3) are acceptance tests and shall be performed on each lot.4.2.2 Periodic TestsDimensional change (3.2.1) is a periodic test and shall be performed at a frequency selected by the processor unless frequency is specified by purchaser.SAE INTERNATIONAL AM

24、S2489A Page 4 of 64.2.3 Preproduction TestsAll technical requirements of this specification are preproduction tests and shall be performed prior to or on the initial shipment of coated parts to a purchaser for each generic class of alloy in accordance with AS2390, when a change in materials and/or p

25、rocessing requires approval by the cognizant engineering organization (See 4.4.2), and when purchaser requires confirmatory testing to be required.4.3 Sampling and Testing4.3.1 Sample Configuration4.3.1.1 Except as noted below, actual parts shall be selected as samples for tests.4.3.1.2 Hydrogen Emb

26、rittlementThe coating process shall not cause hydrogen embrittlement in ferrous materials. Testing in accordance with the requirements of ASTM F519, Type 1A using notched round specimens, unless a different specimen type is specified by the purchaser, stressed in tension under constant load is requi

27、red only when the parts 36 HRC or higher are coated. For test purposes the coating shall be uniformly applied on the smooth section of the specimen, with visual coating at the root of thenotch.4.3.1.3 Intergranular AttackOne test sample, made from the same generic class of alloy as the parts in acco

28、rdance with AS2390, shall be coated and tested for intergranular attack. Sample configuration shall be as specified in ASTM F2111.4.3.2 Sample Quantity4.3.2.1 For Acceptance TestsThe number of specimens shall be in accordance with Table 1. A lot shall be all parts of the same part number processed w

30、700 50 8701 to 1200 75 10Over 1200 125 154.3.2.2 PeriodicSample quantity and frequency of testing shall be at the discretion of the processor unless specified by purchaser.4.4 Approval4.4.1 The process and control factors or a preproduction part, or both, whichever is specified, shall be approved by

31、 the cognizant engineering organization before production parts are supplied.SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS2489A Page 5 of 64.4.2 The processor shall make no significant change to materials, processes, or controls from those on which the approval was based, unless the change is approved by the cognizant engi

32、neering organization. A significant change is one which in the judgment of the cognizant engineering organization could affect the properties or performance of the parts.4.4.3 Control factors shall include, but not be limited to, the following:Surface preparationMethod for testing coating adhesionPe

33、riodic test plan.4.5 ReportsThe processor of coated parts shall furnish with each shipment a report stating that the parts have been processed and tested in accordance with the requirements of this specification and that they conform to the acceptance test requirements. This report shall include the

34、 purchase order number, lot number, AMS2489A, part number, and quantity.4.6 Resampling and Retesting4.6.1 If the result of any acceptance test fails to meet specified test requirements, the parts in that lot may be stripped by a method acceptable to the purchaser that does not roughen, pit, or embri

35、ttle the basis metal, and recoated as defined herein and retested. Alternatively, all parts in the lot may be inspected for the nonconforming attribute, and the nonconforming part areas may be stripped by a method acceptable to the purchaser that does not roughen, pit, or embrittle the basis metal,

36、coated, and retested.4.6.2 If the result of any periodic test fails to meet specified test requirements, the process is nonconforming. No additional parts shall be coated until the process is corrected and new specimens are coated and tested. Results of all tests shall be recorded and, when requeste

37、d, reported. Purchasers shall be notified of all parts coated since the last acceptable test.5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY5.1 Coated parts shall be handled and packaged to ensure that the required physical characteristics and properties of the coating are preserved.5.2 Packages of parts shall be prepa

38、red for shipment in accordance with commercial practice and in compliance with applicable rules and regulations pertaining to the handling, packaging, and transportation of the coated parts to ensurecarrier acceptance and safe delivery.6. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTA processor shall mention this specification n

39、umber in all quotations and when acknowledging purchase orders.7. REJECTIONSParts on which coating does not conform to this specification or to modifications authorized by purchaser will be subjected to rejection.8. The sequencing of these types of operations should be specified by the cognizant engineering organization and is not controlled by this specification.8.3 The parts manufacturer should ensure that the surfaces of metal parts supplied to the processor are free from blemishes, p

43、its, tool marks, and other irregularities that will affect the quality of the finished parts. Defects and variations in appearance that arise from surface conditions of the substrate, such as porosity, scratches or inclusions, that persist in the finished coating despite observance of industry accep

44、tance practices would not be considered as cause for rejection.8.4 Dimensions and properties in inch/pound units and the Fahrenheit temperatures are primary; dimensions and properties in SI units and the Celsius temperatures are shown as the approximate equivalents of the primary units and are presented only for information.PREPARED BY AMS COMMITTEE “B”
