2、COPE:1.1 Form: This specification covers a ready-mixed thixotropic compound in theform of a stable film-forming compound suitable for application by brushingor spraying.1.2 Application: To provide long-term protection of aircraft structures.1.3 Classification: Compound covered by this specification

3、is classified asfollows:Class I UndyedClass II Dyed1.3.1 Unless a specific class is specified, either Class I or Class II may besupplied.1.4 Safety-Hazardous Materials: While the materials, methods, applications, andprocesses described or referenced in this specification may involve the useof hazard

It is the sole responsibility of theuser to ensure familiarity with the safe and proper use of any hazardousmaterials and to take necessary precautionary measures to ensure the healthand safety of all pe

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:3.1 Material: The composition of the compound shall be optional with themanufacturer but should contain film-forming compounds, corrosioninhibitors, and petroleum solvents. However, the compound shall contain notmore than 1.5% aroma

22、tics and no chlorinated hydrocarbons.SAEAMS 3077 Page 43.2 Properties: The compound shall conform to the following requirements; testsshall be performed in accordance with specified test methods on the productsupplied in concentrated form:3.2.1 Flash Point: Shall be not lower than 43C (109F), determ

23、ined inaccordance with ASTM D56.3.2.2 Sprayability: The compound shall be sprayable, tested in accordance withMIL-C-16173 except that the compound shall be held at 15C 3 (59F 5)and that the sprayed panel shall be dried at the same temperature.3.2.3 Viscosity: The compound shall exhibit a non-Newtoni

24、an flow behavior andshall evince no sags, when tested in accordance with 4.5.7.3.2.4 Storage Stability: The compound shall meet all requirements of thisspecification at any time within one year from date of receipt bypurchaser when stored in closed containers between +40 and 20C (+104and 4F).3.2.5 T

25、ransparency: When Type I compound is applied by a wet film applicator ata thickness of 25 m 5 (0.001 inch 0.0002) (dry) and dried for24 hours 1 on a sheet of glass and the glass placed directly on thisspecification text, the text shall be legible.3.2.6 Removability: The compound, applied in accordan

26、ce with 4.5.1, shall beremovable at room temperature by light rubbing with TT-N-95 naphtha,P-D-680 solvent, or TT-T-291 mineral spirits after the test panel has beenexposed to 80C 5 (176F 9) for 24 hours 1.3.2.7 Corrosion of Metal Surfaces:3.2.7.1 Total Immersion Corrosion: The fluid shall neither s

27、how evidence ofcorrosion nor cause a weight change of any test panel greater than0.1 mg/cm2per 24 hours, determined in accordance with ASTM F483.Discoloration is not acceptable.Test PanelsAMS 4041 Aluminum AlloyAMS 4049 Aluminum AlloyAMS 4376 Magnesium Alloy, discromate treated according to AMS 2475

28、AMS 5040 Carbon Steel3.2.7.2 Low-Embrittling Cadmium Plate: Test panels, coated with low-embrittlingcadmium plate, shall not show a weight change greater than 0.1 mg/cm2per 24 hours, determined in accordance with ARP1511.3.2.8 Hydrogen Embrittlement: The compound shall be non-embrittling, determined

29、in accordance with ASTM F519, Type 1a, 1c, or 2a. The compound shall betested as if it was a cleaner; the bars and rings shall be cadmium platedusing low-embrittlement cadmium cyanide bath.SAEAMS 3077Page 53.2.9 Effect on Painted Surfaces: The fluid shall neither decrease the paintfilms hardness by

30、more than one pencil hardness level nor shall itproduce any streaking, discoloration, or blistering of the paint film,determined in accordance with ASTM F502.3.2.10 Effect on Plastics: The compound shall not craze, stain, or discolorMIL-P-25690 stretched acrylic plastic, determined in accordance wit

31、hASTM F484.3.2.11 Odor: The compound shall neither have any characteristic odor nor shallit have a detectable odor 24 hours after application on an open surfacewhen heated to 90 5 (194F 9).3.2.12 Toxicity: When used as recommended by the manufacturer, the compoundshall not be toxic to personnel.3.2.

32、13 Low-Temperature Adhesion: No flaking shall be observable at 40C 3(-40F 5) when tested in accordance with MIL-C-16173 except thatspecimens shall be prepared according to 4.5.1.3.2.14 High-Temperature Adhesion: The compound, heated in a draft-free ovento 90C 5 (194F 9) for 4 hours 0.25 shall not fl

33、ow on a verticaltest panel prepared as in 4.5.1.3.2.15 Water Displacement: No corrosion or discoloration shall be visible onpanels, tested in accordance with 4.5.3.3.2.16 Penetration: No panel shall show lower penetration than 30 mm whentested in accordance with 4.5.2. Average of three tests shall b

34、e 35 mmor greater.3.2.17 Resistance to Fluids: Panels, prepared in accordance with 4.5.1, shallshow no sign of compound removal upon visual inspection after halfimmersion in the following fluids for the time specified:- ASTM D1193, Type IV, water 14 days- AMS 1526 Cleaning Compound, at use concentra

35、tionrecommended by manufacturer 4 hours- AMS 1425 Deicing Fluid, diluted 1:1 by volumewith ASTM D1193, Type IV, water 24 hours3.2.17.1 All tests shall include at least three panels and shall be performed at25C 5 (77 9).3.2.17.2 After immersion, the panels shall be rinsed with water, driedvertically

36、for 1 hour at 25C 5 (77F 9), and inspected for removalof compound.3.2.18 Resistance to Chemicals: Panels, prepared in accordance with 4.5.1 andtested in accordance with 4.5.4, shall show no sign of corrosion;discoloration is acceptable.SAEAMS 3077 Page 63.2.19 Corrosion Prevention:3.2.19.1 No apprec

37、iable attack shall be visible, either on the panels or on thebolts, nuts, or washers after 400 hours for panel No. 1 and 120 hoursfor panel Nos. 2 and 3, determined in accordance with 4.5.5.3.2.19.2 No appreciable attack shall be visible on AMS 4045 aluminum alloypanels, determined in accordance wit

38、h ASTM G34. After cleaning andbefore immersion, the samples shall be sprayed with the compound inaccordance with 4.5.1.2.3.2.19.3 No appreciable attack shall be visible on AMS 4165 aluminum alloypanels, tested in accordance with ASTM G34. After cleaning and beforeimmersion, panels should be sprayed

39、with the compound in accordancewith 4.5.1.2.3.2.20 Properties After Drying in Closed Space: No corrosion shall be visibleon the panel faces, tested in accordance with 4.5.6. Corrosion on theedges shall be ignored.3.3 Quality: The compound, as received by purchaser, shall be uniform inquality and con

40、dition, clean, and free from foreign materials and othercontaminants detrimental to usage of the compound.4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS:4.1 Responsibility for Inspection: The vendor of the compound shall supply allsamples for vendors tests and shall be responsible for performing allrequired tests.

41、 Results of such tests shall be reported to the purchaser asrequired by 4.6. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform anyconfirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that the compound conformsto the requirements of this specification.4.2 Classification of Tests:4.2.1 Acceptance Tests

42、: Tests to determine conformance to requirements forsprayability (3.2.2), viscosity (3.2.3), removability (3.2.6), waterdisplacement (3.2.15), and penetration (3.2.16) are classified asacceptance tests and shall be performed on each lot of compound.4.2.2 Periodic Test: Tests to determine conformance

43、 to requirements for flashpoint (3.2.1), transparency (3.2.5), low-temperature adhesion (3.2.13),high-temperature performance (3.2.14), resistance to fluids (3.2.17),resistance to chemicals (3.2.18), corrosion prevention (3.2.19), andproperties after drying in closed space (3.2.20) are classified as

44、periodic tests and shall be performed at a frequency selected by thevendor unless frequency of testing is specified by purchaser.SAEAMS 3077Page 74.2.3 Preproduction Tests: Tests to determine conformance to all technicalrequirements of this specification are classified as preproduction testsand shal

45、l be performed prior to or on the initial shipment of compound toa purchaser, when a change in ingredients and/or processing requiresreapproval as in 4.4.2, and when purchaser deems confirmatory testing tobe required.4.2.3.1 For direct U.S. Military procurement, substantiating test data and, whenreq

46、uested, preproduction test material shall be submitted to thecognizant agency as directed by the procuring activity, contractingofficer, or request for procurement.4.3 Sampling: Shall be in accordance with ASTM D1568; a lot shall be allcompound produced in one continuous manufacturing operation from

47、 the samebatches of raw materials and presented for vendors inspection at one time.4.4 Approval:4.4.1 Sample compound shall be approved by purchaser before compound forproduction use is supplied, unless such approval be waived by purchaser.Results of tests on production compound shall be essentially

48、 equivalent tothose on the approved sample.4.4.2 Vendor shall use ingredients, manufacturing procedures, and methods ofinspection on production compound which are essentially the same as theseused on the approved sample compound. If necessary to make any change iningredients or in manufacturing proc

49、edures, vendor shall submit forreapproval a statement of the proposed changes in ingredients and/orprocessing and, when requested, sample compound. Production compound madeby the revised procedure shall not be shipped prior to receipt ofreapproval.4.5 Test Methods:4.5.1 Preparation of Test Panels:4.5.1.1 The test panels shall be fabricated from AMS 4037 aluminum alloy, 1 x 50x 100 mm (0.040 x 2 x 4 inches).
