、andard Elastomer Stocks Test Slabs RATIONALE AMS3217A has been reaffirmed to comply with the SAE five-year review policy. 1. SCOPE: 1.1 Form: This specification and its supplementary detail specifications cover various elastomeric standard compounds in the form of molded test slabs 0.075 x 6 x 6 inc

、hes (1.90 x 152 x 152 mm). 1.2 Application: These slabs are used typically to determine compatibility of the type of elastomer with various lubricating oils, hydraulic fluids, and fuels, but usage is not limited to such applications. 1.3 Classification: The requirements specified herein and in the a

、pplicable detail specification define each standard elastomeric stock on the basis of the elastomeric polymer and compounding ingredients; the elastomeric polymer is shown in the title of each detail specification. 1.4 Safety - Hazardous Materials: While the materials, methods, applications, and pro

It is the sole responsibility of the user to ensure familiarity with the safe and proper use of any hazardous materials

、and to take necessary precautionary measures to ensure the health and safety of all personnel involved. 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS: The following publications form a part of this specification to the extent specified herein. The latest issue of SAE publications shall apply. The applicable issue of othe

、abs. 3.5 Sizes and Tolerances: Test slabs shall be nominally 0.075 x 6 x 6 inches (1.90 x 152 x 152 mm) conforming to the tolerances specified in ASTM D 3182. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS: 4.1 Responsibility for Inspection: The vendor of test slabs shall supply all samples for vendors tests and s

Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that the slabs conform to the requirements of this specification and the applicable detail specification. 4.2 Classification of Tests: Test

、s for all technical requirements are acceptance tests and preproduction tests and shall be performed prior to or on the initial shipment of test slabs to a purchaser, on each lot, when a change in ingredients and/or processing requires reapproval as in 4.4.2, and when purchaser deems confirmatory te

、be as follows: SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS3217$ Page 4 of 6 4.3.1 For Acceptance Tests: Each lot of test slabs shall be sampled at random to provide sufficient product to perform all required tests. The number of determinations for each requirement shall be as specified in the applicable test procedure or

、, if not specified therein, not less than three. 4.3.1.1 A lot shall be all test slabs produced from each batch of compound in one continuous series of operations and presented for vendors inspection at one time but shall not exceed 300 pounds (136 kg). 4.3.1.2 A batch shall be the quantity of compo

、 As agreed upon by purchaser and vendor. 4.4 Approval: 4.4.1 Sample test slabs shall be approved by purchaser before slabs for production use are supplied, unless such approval be waived by purchaser. Results of tests on production test slabs shall be essentially equivalent to those on the approved

、sample. 4.4.2 Vendor shall use ingredients, manufacturing procedures, processes, and methods of inspection on production test slabs which are essentially the same as those used on the approved sample. If necessary to make any change in ingredients, in type of equipment for processing, or in manufact

、uring procedures, vendor shall submit for reapproval a statement of the proposed changes in ingredients and/or processing and, when requested, sample test slabs. Test slabs made by the revised procedure shall not be shipped prior to receipt of reapproval. 4.5 Reports: The vendor of test slabs shall

、furnish with each shipment a report showing the results of tests to determine conformance to the acceptance test requirements and stating that the product conforms to other technical requirements. This report shall include the purchase order number, lot number, AMS 3217A and the applicable detail sp

、 for each original nonconforming specimen. Failure of any retest specimen to meet the specified requirements shall be cause for rejection of the slabs represented. Results of all tests shall be reported. SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS3217$ Page 5 of 6 5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY: 5.1 Packaging and Marking: S

、hall be in accordance with AMS 2810. 5.1.1 A lot of slabs may be packaged in small quantities and delivered under the basic lot approval provided lot identification is maintained. 6. ACKNOWLEDGMENT: A vendor shall mention this specification number and the applicable detail specification number and t

、heir revision letters, if any, in all quotations and when acknowledging purchase orders. 7. REJECTIONS: Test slabs not conforming to this specification and the applicable detail specification, or to modifications authorized by purchaser, will be subject to rejection. 8. An (R) symbol to the left of the document title indicates a complete revision of the specification. 8.2 Com

、pounding Ingredients: Sources for compounding ingredients are listed in “Materials, Compounding Ingredients, and Machinery for the Rubber Industry“ published by Rubber World, 630 Third Avenue, New York, NY 10017. 8.3 The specific materials in the formulations in the detail specifications are listed

、in order to always obtain identical products for testing purposes. They are not endorsements of those specific materials. 8.4 Dimensions and properties in inch/pound units and the Celsius temperatures are primary; dimensions and properties in SI units and the Fahrenheit temperatures are shown as the

、 approximate equivalents of the primary units and are presented only for information. 8.5 For direct U.S. Military procurement, purchase documents should specify not less than the following: Title, number, and date of the applicable detail specification Quantity of test slabs desired Level A packaging, if required (See AMS 2810).
