、ilized 2016-08 Revised 2017-07 Superseding AMS3681D Adhesive, Electrically Conductive Silver-Filled Epoxy Resin RATIONALE The test method for volume resistivity is being updated to permit use of MIL-STD-883, Method 5011.6 since the incumbent ASTM D257 provides no test method for conductive adhesives

、. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Form This specification covers an electrically-conductive adhesive supplied as two components, a silver-filled, epoxy-base adhesive and a separate curing agent which may be paste or liquid. 1.2 Application This adhesive has been used typically for providing an electrically-conductive

、bond between surfaces and as an electrically-conductive sealing compound, but usage is not limited to such applications. 1.2.1 Caution is required in using this adhesive in applications where high humidity prevails or in the presence of moisture; under these conditions, the silver particles in this

、adhesive can produce corrosion cells in contact with other metals which are lower in the electromotive series. Silver migration or whisker growth may also occur between points of unequal electrical potential. 1.3 Safety - Hazardous Materials While the materials, methods, applications, and processes

、described or referenced in this specification may involve the use of hazardous materials, this specification does not address the hazards which may be involved in such use. It is the sole responsibility of the user to ensure familiarity with the safe and proper use of any hazardous materials and to

、take necessary precautionary measures to ensure the health and safety of all personnel involved. SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS3681E Page 2 of 5 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS The issue of the following documents in effect on the date of the purchase order forms a part of this specification to the extent specified

When the referenced document has been cancelled and no superseding document has been specified, the last published issue of that document shall apply. 2.1 SAE Publications Available fr

Discoloration of metal shall not be considered objectionable. 3.3 Quality The adhesive, as received by purchaser, shall be uniform in quality and condition and free from foreign materials and other contaminants detrimental to usage of the adhesive. 4. QUALIT

、Y ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for Inspection The manufacturer of the adhesive shall supply all samples and shall be responsible for all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that the adhesive conforms to

、specified requirements. SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS3681E Page 4 of 5 4.2 Classification of Tests All technical requirements are acceptance tests; however, preproduction tests shall also include such additional tests required by purchaser and shall be performed prior to or on the initial shipment of adhesi

、ve by the manufacturer, on each lot, when a change in ingredients and/or processing requires reapproval as in 4.4.2, and when purchaser deems confirmatory testing to be required. 4.2.1 For direct U.S. Military procurement, substantiating test data and, when requested, preproduction test material sha

、ll be submitted to the cognizant agency as directed by the procuring activity, contracting officer, or request for procurement. 4.3 Sampling and Testing Sufficient adhesive shall be taken at random from each lot to perform all required tests. The number of determinations for each requirement shall b

、e as specified in the applicable test procedure or, if not specified therein, not less than three. 4.3.1 A lot shall be all adhesive produced in a single production run from the same batch of raw materials under the same fixed conditions, or all adhesive subjected to the same unit chemical or physic

、al process intended to make the final product homogeneous, and submitted for manufacturers inspection at one time. An inspection lot shall not exceed 500 pounds (227 kg). 4.4 Approval 4.4.1 Sample adhesive shall be approved by purchaser before adhesive for production use is supplied, unless such app

、roval be waived by purchaser. 4.4.2 Manufacturer shall use ingredients, manufacturing procedures, processes, and methods of inspection on production adhesive which are essentially the same as those used on the approved sample. If necessary to make any change in ingredients, in type of equipment for

、processing, or in manufacturing procedures, manufacturer shall submit for reapproval a statement of the proposed changes in ingredients and/or processing and, when requested, sample adhesive. Production adhesive made by the revised procedure shall not be shipped prior to receipt of reapproval. 4.5 R

、eports The supplier of adhesive shall furnish with each shipment a report from the manufacturer showing the composition and the results of tests to determine conformance to the technical requirements. This report shall include the purchase order number, lot number, AMS3681E, manufacturers identifica

、tion, and quantity. 4.5.1 A material safety data sheet conforming to AMS2825, or equivalent, shall be supplied to each purchaser prior to, or concurrent with, the report of preproduction test results or, if preproduction testing be waived by purchaser, concurrent with the first shipment of adhesive

、for production use. Each request for modification of adhesive formulation shall be accompanied by a revised data sheet for the proposed formulation. 4.6 Resampling and Retesting If any specimen used in the above tests fails to meet the specified requirements, disposition of the adhesive may be based

、 on the results of testing three additional specimens for each original nonconforming specimen. Failure of any retest specimen to meet the specified requirements shall be cause for rejection of the adhesive represented. Results of all tests shall be reported. 5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY 5.1 Packagin

、.3.1 If necessary to include toxic or hazardous ingredients in the formulation, the manufacturer shall clearly note all required precautions on each container. 5.1.4 Containers of adhesive shall be prepared for shipment in accordance with commercial practice and in compliance with applicable rules a

、nd regulations pertaining to the handling, packaging, and transportation of the adhesive to ensure carrier acceptance and safe delivery. 5.1.5 For direct U.S. Military procurement, packaging shall be in accordance with MILSTD2073-1, Level C, unless Level A is specified in the request for procurement

、. 6. ACKNOWLEDGMENT A supplier shall mention this specification number and its revision letter in all quotations and when acknowledging purchase orders. 7. REJECTIONS Product not conforming to this specification, or to modifications authorized by purchaser, will be subject to rejection. 8. NOTES 8.1

、 Revision Indicator A change bar (I) located in the left margin is for the convenience of the user in locating areas where technical revisions, not editorial changes, have been made to the previous issue of this document. An (R) symbol to the left of the document title indicates a complete revision

、of the document, including technical revisions. Change bars and (R) are not used in original publications, nor in documents that contain editorial changes only. 8.2 Dimensions and properties in inch/pound units and the Fahrenheit temperatures are primary; dimensions and properties in SI units and th

、e Celsius temperatures are shown as the approximate equivalents of the primary units and are presented only for information. 8.3 For direct U.S. Military procurement, purchase documents should specify not less than the following: Title, number, and date of this specification Size of containers desired Quantity of product desired Level A packaging, if required (see 5.1.5) 8.4 Adhesive meeting the requirements of this specification has been classified under Federal Supply Classification (FSC) 8040.
