SCOPE:1.1 Form:This specification and its supplementary detail specifications coverinterleaf carrier materials in the form of polyethylene film or coated papertape or sheeting.1.2 Application:These products have been used typically to support uncured resin-impregnated,fiber-reinforced tape or bro

2、adgoods for composites during shipment, storage,handling, and layup, and to separate layers of composite tape on reels, butusage is not limited to such applications. Perforated material is intendedfor layup on sprocket-driven tape-laying machines.1.3 Classification:The interleaf carrier shall be as

3、specified in the applicable detailspecification wherein each material is defined by material description. Thematerial covered by each detail specification appears as part of the title.2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS:The following publications form a part of this specification to the extentspecified herein.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:3.1 Detail Specifications:Requirements for a specific material shall consist of all requirementsspecified herein in addition to requirements specified in the applicabledetail specification. In case of conflict between r

12、equirements of this basicspecification and an applicable detail specification, requirements of thedetail specification shall govern.3.2 Material:3.2.1 Construction: The carrier shall consist of a film or paper-like materialas defined in the applicable detail specification.3.2.2 Splices: The product

13、shall have not more than one splice in any 10 feet(R) (3 m) of length. Splices shall be butted and spliced with pressuresensitive coated polyethylene terephthalate tape on both sides to preventloose flaps. The strength across any splice shall be equal to, or greaterthan, that of unsplicedcarrier.3.2

14、.3 Perforations: When perforated carrier is specified in the applicabledetail specification, parallel rows of perforations shall be located on thecarrier adjacent to each edge as shown in Figure 1. (See 8.2).3.3 Properties:The product shall conform to the requirements of 3.3.1, 3.3.2, 3.3.3, and3.3.

15、4 of this specification and those of the applicable detail specification.Tests shall be performed on the product supplied and in accordance withapplicable test procedures specified herein.SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS3898B Page 2 of 8 3.3.1 Release: The surface of the carrier shall release cleanly from theu

16、ncured, resin-impregnated material specified in the applicable compositematerial specification. Release shall be even and uniform, withouttransfer of resin or fibers from the carrier surface to pressure sensitivetape, determined in accordance with 4.5.1.3.3.2 Stability: The product shall not be affe

17、cted by exposure to temperaturesof -40 to +40 C (-40 to +104 F) and 50% to 80% relative humidity.3.3.3 Thermal Expansion: The product shall not change in length by more than0.5% over the temperature range -18 to +32 C (-0.4 to +90 F) and relativehumidity of 50 to 80%, determined in accordance with 4

18、.5.2.3.3.4 Color: The product shall be any color readily visible against thespecified composite tape, except that neither black nor colorless,transparent films shall be supplied.3.4 Quality:The product, as received by purchaser, shall be uniform in quality andcondition, smooth, and free from foreign

19、 materials and from imperfectionsdetrimental to the handling and application of the composite material duringmachine layup. The carrier shall be free from unbonded fibers or cuttings,either at the trimmed edges or on the surface. The trimmed edges shall haveno notches, tears, or slivers. Wrinkles, o

20、verlaps, and folds are notacceptable.3.5 Tolerances:Shall be as follows:3.5.1 Thickness: As specified in the applicable detail specification.3.5.2 Width: As ordered, with the following tolerances; all widths are availableunperforated; only the 4.000 inch (101.60 mm) width is availableperforated:3.5.

QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS:4.1 Responsibility for Inspection:(R)The manufacturer of the product shall supply all samples for required testsand shall be responsible for performing all required tests. Purchaserreserves the right to sample and to perform any

23、confirmatory testing deemednecessary to ensure that the product conforms to the requirements of thisspecification.4.2 Classification of Tests:4.2.1 Acceptance Tests: Tests for material (3.2), release (3.3.1), color(3.3.4), quality (3.4), and tolerances (3.5) are acceptance tests and shallbe performe

24、d on each lot.4.2.2 Preproduction Tests: Tests for all technical requirements arepreproduction tests and shall be performed prior to or on the initialshipment of a product by the manufacturer, when a change in ingredientsand/or processing requires reapproval as in 4.4.2, and when purchaser deemsconf

25、irmatory testing to be required.4.2.2.1 For direct U.S. Military procurement, substantiating test data and, whenrequested, preproduction test material shall be submitted to thecognizant agency as directed by the procuring activity, contractingofficer, or request for procurement.4.3 Sampling and Test

26、ing:(R)Shall be as follows:4.3.1 For Acceptance Tests: Sufficient product shall be taken at random fromeach lot to perform all required tests. The number of determinations foreach requirement shall be as specified in the applicable test procedure or,if not specified therein, not less than three.4.3.

27、1.1 A lot shall be all product produced in a single production run from thesame batches of raw materials under the same fixed conditions andpresented for manufacturers inspection at one time. A lot shall notexceed 5000 yards (4572 m).4.3.2 For Preproduction Tests: As agreed upon by purchaser and sup

28、plier.4.4 Approval:4.4.1 Sample product shall be approved by purchaser before product for productionuse is supplied, unless such approval be waived by purchaser. Results oftests on production product shall be essentially equivalent to those on theapproved sample.SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS3898B Page 4 of

29、8 4.4.2 Manufacturer shall use ingredients, manufacturing procedures, processes,and methods of inspection on production product which are essentially thesame as those used on the approved sample product. If necessary to makeany change in ingredients, in type of equipment for processing, or inmanufac

30、turing procedures, manufacturer shall submit for reapproval astatement of the proposed changes in ingredients and/or processing and,when requested, sample revised product. Production product made by therevised procedure shall not be shipped prior to receipt of reapproval.4.5 Test Methods:4.5.1 Relea

31、se or Tack Test: The reel of interleaf carrier shall be located in aclean area and approximately 6 feet (1.8 m) of carrier unwound. A strip ofpressure sensitive tape shall be applied to the carrier surface in threeareas approximately 1 foot (305 mm) apart and peeled free. Repeat the sametechnique on

32、 the opposite side of the carrier. The tape shall then bevisually inspected for pickup of loose carrier fibers or transfer ofsurface films to the tape. Any material found on the surface of thepressure sensitive tape shall constitute failure.4.5.2 Thermal Expansion: Approximately 10 feet (3 m) of car

33、rier shall be removedfrom the end of the reel for test. Thermally condition the carrier at32 C 1 (90 F 2) and 50% 5 relative humidity for 24 hours 1. Agauge length of 6.6 feet (2 meters) shall be laid out at least 1.6 feet(0.5 meters) from the ends, using a sharp pencil and rule. The accuracyshould

34、be within +0.040 inch (1.00 millimeter). Place the interleafcarrier strip in an environmental chamber at -18 C 1 (0.4 F 2) andrelative humidity of 80% 5 and hold for not less 6an four hours. Removethe interleaf carrier and measure for thermal expansion.4.6 Reports:The supplier of the product shall f

35、urnish with each shipment a report showingthe results of tests to determine conformance to the acceptance testrequirements and stating that the product conforms to the other technicalrequirements. This report shall include the purchase order number, lotnumber, AMS 3898B and the applicable detail spe

36、cification number and itsrevision letter, manufacturers material designation, date of manufacture,and quantity.4.7 Resampling and Retesting:(R) If any specimen used in the above tests fails to meet the specifiedrequirements, disposition of the product may be based on the results oftesting three addi

37、tional specimens for each original nonconforming specimen.Failure of any retest specimen to meet the specified requirements shall because for rejection of the product represented. Results of all tests shallbe reported.SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS3898B Page 5 of 8 5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY:5.1 Packaging a

38、nd Identification:5.1.1 A lot may be packaged in small quantities and delivered under the basic lotapproval provided lot identity is maintained.5.1.2 Unperforated product shall be supplied in rolls or wound on reels, asordered. Perforated product shall be wound on reels. Each reel shallcontain not m

39、ore than 440 yards (402 m) of product. Winding on reels shallbe uniform and provide for proper unreeling. Product ends shall besecured. Each roll or reel shall be sealed in a suitable, non-adherent,moisture-proof material.5.1.2.1 Unperforated product shall be supplied on NAS 992, Type I or Type II,r

40、eels, as ordered. Perforated product shall be supplied on NAS 992,Type III, reels.5.1.3 Each roll or reel shall be legibly identified, with not less than thefollowing information, by attached removable tags using characters whichwill not be obliterated by normal handling.INTERLEAF CARRIER MATERIAL,

42、anently distorted and will be protectedagainst damage from exposure to weather or any other normal hazard.5.1.5 Each exterior shipping container shall be legibly marked with theinformation of 5.1.3 to ensure that the markings will not smear or beobliterated during normal handling or use.5.1.6 The pr

43、oduct shall be prepared for shipment in accordance with commercial(R) practice and in compliance with applicable rules and regulations pertainingto the handling, packaging, and transportation of the product to ensurecarrier acceptance and safe delivery.5.1.7 For direct U.S. Military procurement, pac

REJECTIONS:Product not conforming to this specification and the applicable detailspecification, or to modifications authorized by purchaser, will be subject torejection.8. NOTES:8.1 Revision Indicator:The (R) symbol is for the conv

46、enience of the user in locating areas wheretechnical revisions, not editorial changes, have been made to the previousissue of this specification. If the symbol is next to the specificationtitle, it indicates a complete revision of the specification.8.2 Perforated Carrier Width:The width between the

47、perforation centerlines in relation to the centerlineof the carrier is critical in subsequent location of the composite tape onthe carrier and for proper positioning of that tape during machine layup.8.3 Dimensions and properties in inch/pound units and the Celsius temperaturesare primary; dimension
