、seding AMS4040M Aluminum Alloy, Sheet and Plate, Alclad 4.4Cu - 1.5Mg - 0.60Mn (2024-O with 1 % Alclad); Annealed (Composition similar to UNS A82024) RATIONALE AMS4040N is being revised to delete the thin sheet portion of the document (0.008 to 0.187 inch) (Tables 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6) and supersede th
、ose requirements by the new AMS4461. Cautionary notes were added concerning this specification as it pertains to “thin” clad (1 %) for material over 0.187 inch due to potential for reduced corrosion resistance at reduced cladding thickness. This specification is not equivalent to historical AMS-QQ-A
、-250/5 applications for thicker gages. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Form This specification covers an aluminum alloy in the form of sheet and plate, alclad two sides, supplied in the annealed (O) condition. 1.2 Supersession Notice Requirements for thin gage sheet (0.008 to 0.187 inch) in accordance with AMS4040 are
、 superseded by AMS4461. AMS-QQ-A-250/5 and AMS4461 have the same requirements for alclad thickness and tensile properties for material less than 0.187 inch in thickness. 1.2.1 AMS4040 covers alclad material for sheet greater than 0.187 inch, and plate. The cladding thickness is minimized to provide
、a commensurate increase in tensile properties for this alclad reduction. Use of this product is not recommended without proper evaluation of corrosion resistance. 1.3 Application These products have been used typically for formed structural parts which will be subsequently heat treated, but usage is
、 not limited to such applications. 1.3.1 Certain design and processing procedures may cause these products to become susceptible to stress-corrosion cracking after heat treatment; ARP823 recommends practices to minimize such conditions.
